I pause my rant, but keep glaring at him. He shakes his head and buries his face in his hands. "You're scaring me," he says in a small voice. "I know you know what you're facing. And I know how much you love Amy. And your dad. And I know…I know you'd just walk into it, no matter what. If you thought it would get them home safe, you'd…you'd put yourself in danger to save them. I know you would."
"Just like you did," I say through my teeth.
He looks up at me, "What?"
"Just like you did, for me. You knew you might die, or I might die. But you stuck by me anyway. In fact you promised me you wouldn't make me go through it alone."
