When it was time to go, Dad didn't hang around, though his face got paler as he moved. He walked out of the building saying he had a car parked half a mile away. I couldn't believe they just let him go, but Nathanial pointed out that they weren't following him all the way back home. And they'd have a team check that he got there safely.
"Can you tell me, please? When you know he's home?" I said as we watched him walk down the road, shoulders hunched. Chase had a hand on my shoulder, he squeezed and I leaned into him silently.
"Of course," Nathanial said, but there was a light in his eyes that made me uneasy.
