I realised that while my brain had been overthinking, it was not helping me choose the right direction, causing me to go in circles over the campaign for the business move of my childhood dreams. "While this part of the business may not matter as much to others, it does to me. And if I don't fight for its importance, who else will?".
"You're right, dad." With that, I picked my phone up and dialed Preeti.
"Hi, good morning mam." During office hours, Preeti called me 'mam'; outside of work, she used my name.
"Hi Preeti, I would like you to get me some interns from marketing school, and meanwhile arrange a meeting with our in-house team today"
"Noted mam. Are you okay with 2 pm today?" she enquired
I looked at the watch, it was still 9 in the morning. Plenty of time to come up with something and make it all work.
"Yes. Book the slot."
With that, I hung up and looked at Dad, who was speaking to Shukla about property matters.
"Dad, did you have breakfast? And uncle Shukla, did you?" I asked them.
"Oh, we have been waiting for you." Dad replied.
"I had my breakfast before coming here." Shukla added.
"Well, let's have breakfast together, dad." I said and then turned to Shukla, "And join us for a cup of tea?"
After a progressive morning discussion with Father and Shukla, I headed to the office.
Passing through the driveway, going through the tall, Corinthian Columns, the lion-head design fountain, and the marble structures made me feel like I was in a 90s movie setup. Dad was never joking when he used to say 'Mediocrity comes from your surroundings, so surround yourself with grand everything- spaces, people and things'
He believes that there are already many mediocre things in life, that could be enjoyed, but your mindset, has to be exceptional, until you want to be caught up in a rat race.
I got off the backseat of my car in front of the entrance, where Preeti had already been waiting for me. As soon as I got off, she walked swiftly towards me, offering a handshake. Huh, too professional for two girls who gossip like teens after office hours.
"Welcome, mam. This way please." She said leading me towards the conference room.
"Let's take the general way." I said taking the other path. I had always entered the office through the secret-like entrance from the very next day I joined as a CEO. Because on the first day, dad introduced me to everyone and I panicked. Yes, you heard it right, I panicked because there were a many people, a lot of them, and I could feel my skin being pierced by all that gaze.
Thus, I decided not to get too physically close to other people. But this does not mean that I know nothing about my employees. I know their professional and family background while maintaining the professional bottom line of not peeking into their personal life.
And about taking the front way to my office, they need to get a glimpse of me, once in a while, to still remember who they are working for.
As I walked into the first working area, I could see a familiar figure.
