The crowd heavily outnumbered the amount of thugs inside, but most of them were starving and not well equipped. It did not take long for them to realize that their numbers didn't mean much.
Spike's crew was the only group that had any significant fighters, but even they numbered only seven strong, including Spike. The fighting looked something similar to a swarm of rabid rats attacking a pack of dogs on the street. There was enough for three rats per dog, but none of these people were trained to fight, or smart enough to utilize what advantage they could have had.
Many of the rats scurried toward the loot raining from above, into areas the thugs were keeping clear of. The reason for this was soon made evident as a rather large piece of scrap metal landed on the mountain of junk and bounced off from the force, right into the body of one of the rats running towards the mountain.
His chest was destroyed and the impact knocked his limbs aside, spraying blood in that area. Those near the now long gone man paused for a second, and in many accounts the thugs acted first, by either grabbing the others and throwing them away from their loot, or slamming fists in an attempt to knock them down.
During all of this Kassix and Dahr made their ways around the side. "Joining headlong into that fight would be the same as flipping a coin to determine my survival, and this guy won't be any use in a fight." He thought this while glancing back at Dahr for a moment. "Although neither would I, I suppose."
The torrent of scrap, goodies, and hidden gems continued to flow from the three chutes, not indicating that they would stop anytime soon. Kassix and Dahr were able to move along the side without any trouble, as all of the guards had ran to the south side in an attempt to stop the flow of intruders.
Kassix was keeping an eye on the fight while looking for an opportunity to slip towards the loot. He was also waiting for it to slow down, as he did not fancy being crushed by the very items he came here to take.
While watching, Kassix managed to spot Spike who seemed to be throwing punches, aided by a bionic bicep that was now visible due to his shirt having been cut to near ribbons. The brute of a man who was receiving Spike's punches looked to be at least two meters tall, with both arms heavily modified, but not to the point of being completely replaced by bionics. This applied to both arms, except his left hand, where instead two thick blades stood, ready to scissor together and slice through anything unfortunate enough to be caught between them.
Spike was clearly afraid of getting any appendages in between that blade, and did his best to move his own hulking figure out of the way. Spike was big, but the man in front of him was a whole head taller than him, but he didn't seem much stronger. The biggest difference was the amount of mods the bigger man had, and that wasn't something Spike could overcome easily, which was evident from his near dodge of the scissors that left a shallow cut up his arm. The man with the scissors had followed up that attack with a punch, aimed right where Spike had to dodge from the scissors.
The blow connected heavily against Spike's ribs and he took a step back from the pain. A moment later a short cough revealed blood splattering down the corner of his mouth. He most likely had a few broken ribs from that one blow, and it would only slow him down to receive more of them.
Seeing their boss decimating the perceived leader of the intruders, all of the thugs got much more confident and began rushing them much more fiercely instead of focusing on guarding their treasure. It didn't matter if no one was defending it if all their intruders were killed or crippled before they could even get there.
Kassix at this point had already made it around the fighting and only had to wait for an opportunity. As the fighting got bloodier and bloodier, more of the thugs moved to finish off the rats, Kassix began rushing towards the mountain from behind. Dahr didn't dare even approach, and decided to keep an eye out for Kassix to warn him if something went wrong.
Kassix grabbed hold of the scrap and began pulling himself higher and higher, intending to reach the top. By his thinking the heavier something was, the more its own weight probably broke it, and the more likely it was to fall all the way down.
As he reached the top he could see the fighting had gotten much more brutal on the side of the thugs. Many of the intruders that had lost their confidence had returned from where they came, but those that could be stopped were. The thugs meant to teach them, and anyone else a lesson about intruding on their turf.
Spike and his crew were surrounded at the point, having dwindled to only four of them. Regret was painted across their faces, they did not expect the thugs to have this many mods or be this strong.
Suddenly Kassix saw Spike's arm caught between the blades and try as he might, could not pull it free. The man wore a wicked smile as he stepped forward, and forced Spike's arm up into the air, causing the blade to dig further into his arm.
Spike let out a horrific scream as it dug deeper and scraped against his bone.
Shing!
The scissor blade suddenly snapped close, cleaving through the bone and the remaining flesh, launching Spike's arm high into the air and away. Spike fell to the ground, unable to contain his screams of pain.
The man with the scissors approached Spike once again, and Kassix couldn't bear to watch the man end his life. He had personally convinced Spike to come along, his death was basically on his hands and there was nothing he could do to save him.
Kassix slide down the mountain slightly to stay out of sight, and just watched the chutes, hoping to be able to spot something.
A moment later, another scream was heard, one that caused a chill in the blood of all those who heard it. It was cut off short, as whatever made the screams life suddenly ended.
The horror caused Kassix to not immediately realize it wasn't the course voice of Spike, but someone else's. If people were dying in such a manner he had no intention of staying longer than he needed to though.
Kassix continued to observe the chutes, doing his best to block out the sounds happening behind his back, when he noticed something silver and strangely shaped fling out of the chutes. As he watched it fall, it appeared as if a metal arm, intact all the way up to the shoulder where it looked like it was ripped away from whoever it belonged to. The hand was clenching something tightly.
Kassix had found his treasure, and slide down partway down the mountain to catch the severed arm. It landed in his arms and slammed them down, continuing its decent into the mountain, only to be stopped by the scrap there. It was far more solid and heavy than Kassix had anticipated and he was only lucky it didn't just break his arms there.
He scooped up the arm and shoved it into his jacket, grabbing anything else he saw that could be worth anything in his other free hand. He reached the bottom and glanced back at the crowd as he began running towards Dahr.
A figure in what looked like a long jacket that looked far too big that concealed most of his body, and a wide brimmed hat that was tilted down to hide a majority of his face. He was of an average height and didn't look like a hulking monster, but at his feet thugs and rats were both strewn about like slaughtered animals. Limbs and heads were hewn off of each one, and many had looked like they had tried to run from this figure.
Kassix didn't know much, but he knew better than to stick around. He bolted as fast as his aching legs could carry him. He ran past Dahr, whom he grabbed the wrist of and forced into a run behind him. Dahr had been hiding in the escape route and hadn't seen the carnage, but seeing the fear on Kassix face decided it was better to run first ask later.
The two disappeared into the labyrinth of the pit, neither had been this direction and had no one of knowing where was safe or if anyone was chasing them. They only wanted to get far, and fast. Unfortunately for them, despite their wills their bodies couldn't keep up, they were both weak and neither were well fed either. They collapsed after running for a measly 20 minutes, but they ran randomly, taking random paths and turns.
If someone were to chase them, they would have had to come after them as soon as they left, or be master trackers. Neither of them were worth the effort in anyone's eyes however. No one had seen what Kassix had made it out with, and any worry of people chasing them faded as the siren signaling rain started blaring.
Any tracks, blood, or signs of them passing through the alleyways of the pit was about to be destroyed anyway. They quickly hid underneath some outcroppings, and breathed heavily for a few moments before Dahr finally asked, "So?"
Kassix just smiled though his heavy breathing and handed Dahr the handful of electronics he had grabbed while sliding down, and showed him the arm.
Dahr's eyes were wide and his mouth just held agape for a second before he shoved the arm back into Kassix's jacket before looking around to make sure no one else had seen it.
"Kassix, you're going to be rich!" Dahr looked extremely excited having only seen a small segment of the arm.
"Hah! Dahr, we're going to be rich!" Kassix corrected him, if this was worth as much as Dahr's face said it was worth, he intended on sharing the spoils with the one who had helped him get the opportunity.
*****
The stench of bodies and blood being destroyed filled the air, most of the mountains were protected by the chutes, but where the battle had taken place was not.
The man who showed up late to the party took off his hat and laid it on a flat sheet of metal next to him as he sat down.
He watched a scissor blade melt away in the rain with the body that it was connected to.
"Such a disappointing outcome, some of them got away." The man turned his gaze from the disintegrating body towards the two other entrances he could see, excluding the one he came in from.
"I suppose rats scurrying away from humans in the rain is only natural though." Rain leaned back and closed his eyes, listening to the sound of rain on metal.
