"W-What happened?" I asked and they both looked at me. "Nickole, do you really not remember?" My mom asked me. I continued to look at them in confusion. "Nickole are you okay?" My Dad asked me. "I'm fine Dad." I said and tried to stand. my knees buckled underneath me and I fell down on my hands and knees. I didn't dare look up, I could already feel the concern and panic burning through me. Dad picked me up and set me in the back seat of the truck. I looked out of the window as he talked to a paramedic and then him and Mom turned around and started walking back to the truck.
Mom turned around and looked at me. "We're going to be staying with Grandma for a few days, okay? That's just until they can figure out what's going on here." She said with sincerity in her facial expression. "Okay Mom, that's fine." I said and buckled up. I stared out of the window and watched as the nights shadows played with my mind. No matter how many times we pasted it, it kept appearing. The same figure that stood in the corner of my room. It's smile grew wider everytime we past it. But again, I just blamed it on how scared I was. My back hurt from hitting the wall with such force and anytime I made too sudden of a movement, it cramped up. I slowly laid down in the back seat and drifted off to sleep.
I woke the next morning in my bed at Grandma's. I was confused and in a daze. I sat up quickly but my back cramped up and I fell back down on the bed. Dad walked in on me in pain and he sat down next to me. The cramp finally went away, though slowly, and I looked at him. "Foods ready." He said with a slight grin on his face. "I uh, I'm not hungry." I said and looked away. "What do you mean?" He said, his grin vanishing and his voice getting more serious than sincere. "I'm not hungry sir." I said under my breath. "Your going to eat. Come on Nickole, Now." He said and grabbed my arm and pulled me out of my bed and made me walk in front of him.
"Good morning baby girl." Mom said and greeted me with a hug. "Good morning mama." I said and sat down next to her. 'Pancakes...' I thought to myself. I force fed myself and got up to rinse my plate. "Thank you ma'am." I said to my mom and went outside to play. It's not like she was a bad cook, it's just I don't like eating. It makes me feel weird. I went over to the wood line and threw up my breakfast. I groaned in pain and wiped my mouth. I went over to the swings in the front yard and started to swing. My dad walked out and looked at me. "You threw it up didn't you?" He asked and grabbed my swing and stopped me. "No sir. I didn't." I said and looked away. "Sure. I can smell the vomit Nickole. I'm not stupid." He said and went to walk away. Out of no where I felt his hand collide with my face. I fell backwards out of my swing and started crying slightly. "Don't lie to me!" He said and brought his boot to my side, kicking me with a force that made me slide along the ground a little. "Y-yes sir." I said and rolled over on my back, gasping for air.
Mom came out and looked at me, on the ground, holding my side in pain. "Nickole what happened?!" She said with panic dancing in her voice. "I-its nothing Mom, I just fell out of my swing." I said and cried silently to myself. "Then what about the hand print on your face?!" She said and rushed over. "What hand print? I told you I just fell out of my swing." She looked at me confused. "Nickole what really happened?" She asked as she sat me up. I went to talk, but all of a sudden I was in the forest. The crickets singing a melody and the wind rustling the leaves. I was in the middle of nowhere. All there was to be seen was trees and moonlight surrounding the area I was. I breathed in the sweet smell of sap and was calm. "Don't fear me little one." I heard a distorted voice say behind me.
