Mai Pov Once the bell rang. Everyone in Mr.Denvor's class got up and so did Erin. I stood up and then grabbed my backpack and swung it around my shoulder. I then left to go to my 5th period which was related arts. As I walked out the door I looked to my left and saw Erin with a bunch of other guys. They wore leather jackets and black jeans. They also wore converse or black combat boots like Erin. Like maybe their the rebel type? I shook my thoughts as I saw the group of boys laughing then turning their heads to me. Erin even looked with his serious but mysterious glare.
I quickly looked away and then started to walk in the opposite direction. I walked past crowds of people. I walked away from the crowded halls in a corner to stop and look at my schedule. I looked at my schedule and looked at 5th period Orchestra. The room number was 102. I then heard someone walk in front of me. I looked up from the paper I was holding and saw Erin with a cigarette hanging from the side of his mouth. "You look lost ." He said teasing me. I looked at him. "Yea, Where is the Orchestra room?" I asked as he chuckled with a side smile. "Your in front of it." He said looking behind me. I turned around. "Oh, well thanks anyway." I said turning to him with a generous smile.
He chuckled starring at me then walking past me into the door behind me. I walked after him. As I entered the room it was empty. "Are we seriously the first people here?" I said as I grabbed a stand and put it in front of a chair. "It looks like we'll be the only ones here. The teacher wont be showing up anytime soon." Erin said as he walked to the window sill opening it up and grabbing his cigarette and leaning on the windowsill bend down. "Why is that?" I said putting my stuff down, sitting down on the chair, and taking out my previous music sheets from my other school. Erin looked at me. "Because she's past out drunk in the closet." He states pointing to the closet returning to smoking his cigarette.
I starred at him for the longest time and got up to walk to the closet and opened it to find the teacher past out drunk smelling like vodka. I gently closed the door. "Well, at least I get to play whatever the hell I want." I state taking my seat and putting my music sheets on the stand. I then get up to quickly get an instrument my size until I could bring my own tomorrow. "You can actually play?" He asked teasingly. I grabbed the instrument my size and knelt down to open it up. I looked up to him as he looks at me still curious and starring at me in disbelief.
I got up from my knees and put my hands on my hips. "Okay, try me." I said looking at him waiting for him to request a song. He stared at me. He squashed his cigarette and threw it out the window coming towards me. We were inches apart. "Play something from the beatles then." He requested starring at me smirking. I smiled since I've had to play all of the beatles songs on my instrument before. I grabbed the instrument putting my shoulder rest and the bow was rasined already which was perfect and I stood up since I memorized all the music.
I harmonized all my strings and the sounds and pitches to make the perfect acapella. I started to play the beginning and then did the solo part. I looked at Erin who seemed pleased He was even smiling. Or maybe smirking? Anyways I played til the end and once I hit the last note he clapped. I smiled then joking-ly took a bow and then saw Rere come in. "OMG chica! That sounded awesome from the hallway!" She shouted running up to give me a hug. We then heard a door open, we all looked, and the female teacher came walking out. "Do you think you can play the swan on that viola?" She asked I nodded. They all sat in a circle looking at me because I was standing up and they were like an audience. Erin sat starring at me with his hands in his pockets grinning. I smiled then readied my position to play the song from memory.
I gracefully played. Moving my bow and moving my fingers for my vibrato. I loved this piece because it was calming and it felt like how the swan turned from the ugly duckling to the beautiful swan and you can feel it during the song its very beautiful. As soon as I hit the last note I let the string ring and my bow is lifted until the sting's stopped ringing. I heard claps and a cheer from Rebecca. I bowed and then put the instrument back in it's case grabbing my music sheets putting them in my bag.
The teacher came to me. "Your very gifted child. You must be the transfer student?" She said complimenting me and then asking. I nodded." Good we need someone like you. There is an all county show that you have to do with a partner . I will give you the music sheets for it tomorrow and allow you to pick your partner how does that sound?" She explained. I nodded thanking her. "Hey I'll see you in class one of my friends need me." Rebecca said as she left.
I turned to Erin who was looking out the window. "I'm Ms.Haven by the way." The teacher said as I looked in her direction. "I'm Mai. M-A-I." I said before she got confused. She nodded and wrote my name under the All county performances. I walked to Erin. "Hey, can I ask you something?" I asked looking at him. He looked at me. "You already asked one." He says teasingly. He looks out the window.
"Would you be interested in joining me for the competition?" I asked. It was worth asking. anyone would be great. He looked at me. "I don't even know how to play an instrument." He said starring at me." I could teach you." I said happily. I had training from my other teacher how to play each instrument individually and how to tune them. "You? teach me?" He said pointing to me and then him. "It'll be fun! I'll get you to learn it by the end of this month!" I said with confidence. "Good luck with that because I'm not doing it." He says taking a cigarette from his box, lighting it and walking away. "ERIN!" I said walking after him I grabbing his arm making him turn around to face me.
"Please? I know it may seem dumb. But can you at least give it a try? what have you got to lose?" I said trying to persuade this guy. He starred at me for a moment then responded. "If it will make you stop harassing me than fine." He said with the cigarette still in his mouth. "YAY!" I said in the most stupidest girly tone I had. Erin just looked at me amused. "Damn, you really want me to do this don't you?" He asked looking at me. I nodded with great force. "Your the only one who has great taste in music!" I exclaimed. He looked at me shocked and then chuckled. "You think I have good taste in music?" He asked in a curious look. I nodded and we both smiled.
