I was deeply asleep when Tom's cry dragged me out of sleep with a rush of adrenalin and a muttered curse. Rolling over, I looked at my phone. 2:54.
It wasn't uncommon when things were disrupted that he'd wake in the night, but it was a bummer when there was no knowing how he was going to react. I considered leaving him to cry for a few minutes. Sometimes he'd fall back asleep after a minute. But I was afraid he'd wake up Crash, so I dragged myself out of bed, put on the thick robe I'd found in the closet of the room over my tanktop and sleep shorts, and walked through to the nursery.
