He slept. He slept because I sang to him. It feels like an achievement, which is fucking weird. But Kelly's looking at me like I hung the sun in the sky, so I'm okay with it.
"Thank you so much," she whispers, and those tears threaten again.
"Babe, if he's asleep why don't you come sit up here with me?" I say softly. She glances at him, but nods and squeezes around the side of the seat to plop down next to me and drop her head back on the seat. I take her hand immediately.
"I'm sorry," she whispers. "I know this is really stressful and not a lot of fun."
"It's okay." And funnily enough, for the first time, it feels like I mean it. "At least the kid has taste," I grin.
