Within twenty minutes I had a small duffelbag packed for myself, but I was on my third for Tom. Between the portacrib, toys, food, the diaper bag, multiple clothing changes (he was still a really messy eater) and anything else I thought I might need, I was going to fill the car.

Even Crash gave me a look when I walked the third big bag out. "We need the car seat—"

"Already taken care of," Merv says without looking up from his phone. "Like I said, Kel, no my first rodeo."

I heaved a sigh of relief, then looked at Holly. "Can you think of anything?"

She shook her head, her forehead furrowed. "I just... I just want you both safe." She looked like she might cry which, with as little sleep as I'd had, threatened to set me off. So I waved her off and looked at Crash, whose face was also lined. He looked like he had bruises under his eyes. Did I look that tired?
