Crash
I take a deep breath because I think this'll be important. Kelly's waiting, and if I'm not mistaken, a little nervous about what I might say. I try to smile to ease her tension, but I'm not sure it works. Then I sit up straight and turn a little to face her.
"I found out that I've learned to always expect things to go wrong. With people, I mean. Between Dad leaving and Mom being an addict and just... junk with people. Like Amber. So, when something gets hard or gets in my way, instead of fighting for the relationship, I give in. I'm convinced before I've even tried that there's nothing I can do."
Kelly nods like she knows. "I think I'm a little bit that way too."
"Really?"
"Really. I mean, I ran too, remember."
We both look down for a second. I want to touch her so bad, but it's not the moment for it. "So," she says after a minute. "What have you learned to change about yourself?"
