" Hello, Boss," Marcos spoke earnestly into the phone but his senior wasn't up for quick talks.
" Did he succeed?" Boss asked calmly. Marcos knew that behind his calm demeanour he was desperately rooting for Hudson's success. Hudson's alter ego Jared was the epitome of victory. Hudson had never lost a bet whenever he takes over Jared's persona.
" Yes." Marcos could sense relief from the other end of the phone.
" $500,000 per head," Marcos repeated.
" Yeah. You will get your-"
" Make that 1 million for #12A. We suffered fatalities, She was a nightcrawler. You didn't tell us." Marcos bargained. " Or the deal is off."
Hudson parked his truck silently into the side of the 5th lane. He waited in the darkness of his vehicle, glancing in the rearview mirror and then ahead of him. He wanted to make sure he was not being followed. The scent of blood-sucking annelid can drive suspicions. From both hunters of Huntersville and nightcrawlers acting as invader and decoys if there are any at the moment on their side of the line.
But Hudson could smell death miles away. Trouble. Trap. This is not something unusual for hunters. Wolves are natural predators and Hunters are mostly Wolves.
Hudson took the steep turn into the woods where the sign said ' Huntersville 1.5 KM." Jared was relieved but he couldn't let his guard down yet. Everyday Nightcrawlers and Hunters attacked each other. Every day there is an outburst at the borders. This is literally a warzone. Huntersville is the last town that corners the borders, acting a shield for the rest of the country.
Marcos gonna be pissed. He is always pissed anyway.
Alexander pulled his truck into the driveway, he could see the lights into his hallway. He went out and crept inside his front door.
" What took you so long Hudson?" Marcos crossed his hands over his chest. Bastard.
" Told ya Bentley, there are checkpoints everywhere. Seems like Boss forgot to mention that" Hudson said to his workmates.
" Did you get her?" Nico Bentley asked, visually curious. The teenager must have never seen a nightcrawler, Hudson assumed.
" Someone's in your driveway." Marcos's ear's stood up. He could near faint, careful footsteps. Alexander Hudson instantly knew that their prey had managed to escape it's the cage. Hudson had handcuffed her and put her into the trunk of his truck. He wasn't surprised given the amount of fight she had put in to break free from her captivity.
" Move one step and I will blow your head off." Marcos threatened, his claws slowly flashed into the darkness. In response her eyes turned pitch black, her fangs ached and her knees tingled to fight.
" Calm down. Okay. You are one...smart blood-sucking leech...You won't do anything stupid, Would ya?" Hudson slowly tried walking in her direction, glancing at the undone chains on the ground. She hissed.
" Rodent..." She gritted her teeth in hostility. She turned to look at the high fence. 'Border must be few km away' she thought to herself. She took one step back.
" No funny moves." Nico pointed the crossbow in her direction.
He turned his attention towards her and was surprised by her sheer strength. He knew she could break from those handcuffs in no time but he had locked his trunk by the lock and heavy smouldering chains.
" No. Funny. Moves."
" Don't-" Hudson muttered at once. He tried to warn her but she had already climbed half through the fence.
" You...Filthy dogs. You will never catch-"
