Chapter 1 - Prologue

"I'm almost there, I'm almost out of these God forsaken woods." the heavy, metal door creaked and groaned as the man twisted the red wheel. It has been so long since someone had tried to utilize the door so a considerable amount of effort had to be used. After trying for three days to get it to turn, of trying until he couldn't stand, the wheel had gave way. The man was ecstatic to heard the click and feel it move smoothly under his force.

"Finally, finally ill be free from these dark woods!" the man rushed to opened the door, each turn of the wheel giving him hope of a life outside of the woods. The wheel clanked to a stop, the key hole now free of the bar of metal that had once caged it. He dug around his pockets for the key. He didn't feel it. Horror filled his face as he thought of where it could be. ' Did he put it in his bag? Did he leave it locked away in his hideout? Did he drop it?' he thought as he ripped the bag off of his shoulder. He looked up when he heard something hit the door, the key.

He scrambled over to where it laid at the base of the door. The white 21 that had been painted on it, cracked and chipped, loomed over him. The man sat back on his knees and held the key up in front of his own eyes and admired it. The oval shaped that was attached to it swayed back and forth, catching the rays of the pale green light that sat at the top of the door. A 21 was carved into it. The only thing that gave him hope of escape from the woods was this key. Here, in this damp underground, where roots dangled from the trees and the remains of what had been built was swallowed. Here he sat, so close to freedom, the only thing blocking it was this door.

He stood and slid the key into the lock and savored turning it. the sound of the gears of the lock sliding around was enough to get the man off. When the lock clicked he reached his hand up to the door handle and pulled on it. The door cracked open. The man released his breath and opened the door. Behind the door was a dark abyss. The light that went through the now open door way was swallowed completely.

He crept into the dark. Only going three steps be for the door slammed close behind him. He turned and saw a figure in the thick glass window. A click of the lock was heard. Panic ensued. The man ran back to the door and banged on it, hoping that the person on the other side had just not seen him in the dark. The person looked through the glass at him and grinned, holding up the key in long, slender, black fingers. He banged on the door again, horrified that someone would threaten to leave someone else down here.

The person waved at him through the glass and turned around, "No... NO! COME BACK, PLEASE UNLOCK THE DOOR!" the man in the dark cried. His bangs was the only thing that could be heard. The once happy man was now mortified. The door was supposed to be a good thing, it was supposed to let him be free, but he was unprepared to journey in the dark. He would die .

The person that locked him in just walked away from the door, a big smile plastered to his face, the bangs from the man rang out as he walked. The person whispered, "Music to my ears."
