Chapter 1 - New beginning and sorrows

Clouds of charcoal grey slowly decorated the sky outside, consuming the shaffron sunrise that had preceded them .

The clouds spat out bright streaks of lighting which was followed by thunderous rumblings shaking the glass of the large bay windows . Large grey droplets of rain stained the windows, making them mimick the tears that slid down his slinder cheeks . The droplets sprinkled all over the grey stoned driveway, making it turn to the darker shades of the gloomy sky . Flashes of electric blues lit up the dim room, revealing a figure standing by one of the large window frames .

His strong shoulders quivered violently as if a great weight had been placed upon him . His handsome face had pain painted all over it , his ocean blue eyes now dulled by grief endlessly searching for something outside . He turned to face the room , dispelling all the thoughts that clouded his mind . The room itself was filled with memories of their life together , that were scattered across the large , ornate , walnut wardrobes in gold laden picture frames and hanging on the white walls emphasizing how empty the room now is as each frame in his eyes showed her slowly fading away .

The pictures pierced his consciousness like shards of a life he recalled , suspended in time by each flash of lightning that lit up the room . A series of knocks rapped against the large oak door to the bedroom , signaling the arrival of guests. A palpable sense of grief filled the house , like exerement carried in under the shoes of the mourners . People , all dressed in black , slowly filled the home . Azrael Devereux was sitting in a quiet corner a safe distance away from the pretentious wailers , his eyes dim and his wavy raven black hair was a tangled mess , as he watched closely as each person passed his wife and offered their meaningless goodbyes .

Some came together as if they were too afraid to accept the reality of the situation , while others walked bravely unaided and whispered reassurances and their final message , each carried along with them a white lily and had placed it carefully by the side of the open casket .

He knew which of the mourners shared his pain and those who were there to take this as an opportunity to get on his good side . It disgusted him that even when his heart had been ripped out , people didn't care . He wanted them to leave but had no choice in the matter as those who cared for his wife were there too. A strong hand placed itself on his shoulder, squeezing it gently . He looked up, and through his lashes, he saw an older version of his wife . " Go." her mother told him her voice hoarse, and tears were threatening to fall , in her arms craddled against her , lay his child .

He numbly made his way towards his wife once each of the mourners had paid their respects and had taken a step away from her . Azrael got on his knees once in front of the casket . There, she lay peacefully in front of him without any signs of pain or discomfort . Her angelic face looked as if every detail was designed with such care and wore a look of peace . Her rose stained lips had a faint smile on it as if she had already reached heaven . Not a sign of death could be seen anywhere .

Those rose red lips where he would once place meaningful kisses on were now silenced . Those eyes that once looked at him with so much love were now closed forever .

He placed one final kiss on her forehead and gently placed a violet heliotrope in her hands before he whispered softly in her ears . " I will always love you , Rebecca . I will , until the end of this life of mine . We had so much that was promised to us , so much that you and I both had vowed to do . And if there is another life for me , I promise to find you as you are the only one that can ever own my soul and heart . I will raise our child well , my love . He is just what you wanted . He looks like me, but his eyes are yours , his smile too .

I just wish he had more of you in him , but he is still the gift you left behind . I love you, amor . So , so much . " His voice broken as he delivered his final message to her , with that being said , he walked away , tears streaming down his face and a painful , yet almost lost experssion was worn on his face .

An infant's cries broke the silence of the room , echoing of the walls . Azrael rushed to his son , taking him from the arms of his wife's mother, and gently rocked him back to his dreamless sleep . He bent down and whispered in a hushed voice random words of comfort . Azrael slowly walked away from the world he had known , a world that was too painful to stay any longer in without her . In his arms, he held the last thing that his wife had left him and walked on into a future without her .
