Now standing in the main city itself, the boys had their first sights of what a city was actually like. More people than they could count filled the streets, people riding horses, horses pulling wagons filled with miscellaneous goods. Entire formations of soldiers armed with what Floris had learned were muskets patrolling the streets. Buildings stood multiple stories tall and were of a vast variety of different colors, many of which the boys had never seen before. While it was certainly a sight to behold, neither of the boys really felt too comfortable with their surroundings. There were too many people doing too many things. It was next to impossible to go anywhere without bumping into someone else. On top of that, they stood out of the crowd like a sore thumb with the clothing they were wearing. Everyone else was wearing colonial clothing with rich varieties of clothing, some of which were more sharply dressed than others. They felt so small and insignificant compared to the world that was still just beginning to open itself up to them.
"I don't know about this, Floris. How in the world are we ever gonna find the Mages Guild in a place like this?" Alvis asked.
Floris studied the map for a moment, then looked around at his surroundings, "According to the map...we need to continue up the street until we find a large structure of some kind called a church. Then, we'll find the Mages Guild a ways down a different road from there."
"How far is this church?" Alvis asked.
"Not far. We should get there shortly if we move quickly." Floris said as he put the map in his backpack. He waved for Alvis to follow him and led the way to the church. Once there, the two studied the structure with curious eyes. The building was built differently than the others and had a fairly large graveyard surrounding it.
"So...is this just a place where they bury their dead, or what?" Alvis asked.
"If I recall correctly...places like this are where the people come to worship their religion. I haven't heard much about their beliefs, but you know my feelings on religion. I've never been a fan of it. It's a waste of time if you ask me." Said Floris.
Alvis nodded, "I doubt I'd understand it, anyway. Let's just get to the Mages Guild already!"
Floris nodded and silently led the way to the guildhall.
After navigating the streets, the two boys found their way to their destination. The sight before them was unlike anything they were expecting, and they stared in awe at the structure before them. The guildhall was a gargantuan sized building with multiple stories. Banners hung from the building and were displayed over roaring fires of a myriad of different colors. Green, pink, blue, red, orange, purple, and black fires were lined up parallel with the stairs leading up to the main entrance. The banners were dark blue and had pictures of a large black sword piercing through an open book with multiple smaller symbols surrounding them.
The building itself was made of large white stones but had red pillars supporting the outside decks of the upper stories, and even more banners were hanging from the pillars, but each one was a different color and had a different emblem on them. The building was far different from what either of the boys was expecting and they couldn't help but smile as they stared at the sight in front of them.
"My gosh! I never dreamed it would be like this!" Said Floris.
Alvis only remained silent as he stared at the building. He was nervous but still excited.
They stood in place for what seemed like an eternity, then slowly looked at each other. They nodded, then made their way up the stairs to the main entrance, and with deep breaths, they opened the doors and stepped inside; what they saw took them to a whole other world.
