There is a myth that if you fold a thousand paper cranes your wish will be be granted. When Izuku first heard this he thought it was cute, but never had the patience to do it. He was 4 after all.
After his 5 birthday rolled around and he still didn't have a quirk, his mom took his to a doctor. Izuku was diagnosed quirkless. His mom barely believed in him, but was still supportive. She encouraged him no matter what he did.
When Izuku was 6, he remembered the paper crane myth. Izuku thought, hey maybe I will do that.
At first he folded them because of the myth. He finished the 1st 1,000 cranes in a week and nothing happened. After that he folded them for fun (Or was he still hoping?). After that he was known as the weird paper crane boy. All the paper cranes he's made are in boxes in his room. Multiple boxes.
The day he met All Might was not the best. Bakugou figured out Izuku still wanted to go to U.A. and be a hero. He wasn't happy about it and decided to blow up Izuku's hero notes. It was volume 8 and he was working on Mt.Lady.
Then the sludge villain attacked him, All Might saved him, Izuku grabbed onto his pant leg and they landed on a building. Izuku popped the question of, 'can I be a hero, even without a quirk?'. All Might of course said no but also encouraged him. Before All Might could leave Izuku handed him a paper crane.
Izuku: "Be careful out there All Might." He whispered before walking ahead of him
All Might held the green paper crane in his hand before seeing a tiny scroll of paper. He opened the paper up.
The Paper:
Hey! Whoever you are, have a good day! Tomorrow will be better I promise.
All Might felt better after that. He really did feel bad about crushing to boy's dreams, but All Might didn't want to see the kid die.
Izuku often handed sad or unhappy people a paper crane with a note, hoping to cheer them up. He really liked seeing their surprised faces when he hands them a paper crane.
U.A. entrance exams were here. Izuku did some strength training, but also not letting up on his paper crane making. When Izuku got into the written test he breezed through it.
The practical exam was here and he knew he wasn't gonna pass. Robots? Really?! Izuku saved a few people from flying pieces of robot, then the zero pointer appeared.
Izuku saw a girl stuck and immediately ran for her. He grabbed a metal bar on the way and wedged it so he could lift the cement easier. The girl got out and Izuku grabbed her and ran.
After getting healed by recovery girl for a minor sprained wrist, he saw a discouraged looking purple haired boy. Izuku pulled out an intact crane from his pocket. Which just so happened to also be purple and ran up to the boy.
Izuku: "Here! I am sure you did great. Bye!" He quickly gave the boy the paper crane and ran.
Purple Haired Boy: "Huh?" He inspected the crane before seeing the scroll of paper. He unrolled it and read it.
The paper:
I am sure whatever you did was great! You are amazing! Have a good day. :D
The purple haired boy slightly smiled before carefully rolling the paper back up and pocketing it and the crane.
Izuku and his mom were nervously waiting for the letter. When it came he ran to his room and opened it. All Might yelled about how he got zero villain points before talking about how he got A LOT of rescue points. Putting him as first place on the entrance exam.
First day at U.A. and he saw a nervous guy on the walk there. Izuku carefully approached, not wanting to spook him even more.
Izuku: "A-are you okay?" He stuttered a bit.
Nervous boy: "U-uh, I l-lost my w-wallet. Agh, I a-am so embarrassed." He stuttered as well.
Izuku: "U-uhm I picked one up on the way here and was gonna take it to a police station. Is this yours?" He pulled out a wallet.
Nervous: "Y-yeah! I-it is, thanks." The boy looked relieved.
Izuku handed him a paper crane and walked the rest of way.
