The house was already in a pretty sorry state and any moment now the next batch of hurt and angry people seeking justice would be coming by. Weather he like it or not he stayed with her in her apartment. He couldn't access his account meaning he couldn't get a hotel or literally anything. So he didn't really have a choice.
