Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Kante

There was a time when Humans and other creatures lived together in one world. Yes, Vampires, werewolves, Fairies, Gnomes, Goblins, Centaurs, Fauns, Wizards, Mages and the likes. Even gods and Demigods, Beings and Creatures now believed to be fictitious were real and lived among Humans. Those times soon  came to an end and the existence of these creatures were reduced to mere myths and stories told to scare children. And though the Humans didn't know it, these creatures still existed, just in another world, a universe that mirrored the Human world.

It was in this time that an Explorer by the name Kante Avah lived in Samballa, a city in an African country. This Explorer was soon going to make a discovery that would mark history.

''Wake up! Kante'', a voice called out. Kante couldn't recognize the voice nor could he make out from where the voice came. He could barely recognize anything around him. He struggled to get up on his feet, staggering, with blurry vision,  he managed to make his way towards the faint sound of the voice he heard. He felt the ground beneath him as he walked, it was wet and filled with aggressive grasses that brushed mercilessly against his feet. He thought it was swamp but then he realized there were no swamps in Samballa, his hometown, where he presumed he was. As his Vision cleared, he could tell he was in a forest.

"What the… but how?" he questioned in an undertone as he moved through the thickness. He didn't seem  to notice the injuries that now graced his feet from their romance with  thorns and wild plants in the forest but kept on muttering: "What am I doing here? and how did I get here?".

It seemed as if  only a moment ago he was having a Good time in the Mansion of Krowlotu, the home of the wealthy, ancient family which made Samballa the city it is today. The mansion had really been a Museum rather than a home as it held Antiques, rare artifacts, ancient journals, records and articles and had no  inhabitants anymore. Kante had looked forward to his visit to the mansion, as he was an Explorer and had high interests in the Krowlotu artifacts. Kante pondered over how he went from wandering about in the Mansion only  moments ago, to  an entirely different scenery. "Perhaps this is a dream" he thought, though he was positive he had just woken up from one at the sound of the voice.

''Come Kante, come quickly'', Kante heard the voice ring in his ears once more. It must have caused an Adrenaline burst in him, because Kante found himself hurrying in the direction of the sound. He hadn't gone a long way when he slipped  and rolled down a cliff and slumped at the feet of a stranger. He scurried up to his feet and found two strangers, dressed in black hooded robes, standing in front of him. He couldn't get a glimpse of their faces because they had their faces covered  by the hoods and it was dark.

"Hello, Kante" one of the strangers said as they lowered their hoods to reveal their faces. They were young men, dark and huge and smiling at Kante as though they have been waiting for him, in truth they have. There wasn't as much as a strand of  hair on their head and they shared a striking resemblance. In the exception one had a bigger nose and the other a longer chin. Kante concluded they were brothers.

"Who are you two? And how did you know my name?" Kante asked.

''We are Travellers" said one of the men, "you took so long to get here, we've been waiting, others don't usually take so long".

If Kante had wondered about what the stranger had said he didn't show it but proceeded to ask: "where am I?"

"It's hard to explain, come with us and we'll take you to someone who'll help you understand" one of the men replied.

"I do not know who you are or where you wish to take me, so I'm going nowhere with you!" Kante said.

"You have to come with us, you don't have a choice" one of the men replied.

Kante was going to say something else when he was grabbed by one of the men. The other threw a ring in the air and a circular window appeared, and opened. In a flash the men threw Kante in it and he found himself flat on the floor in a different scenery. He stood up and caught sight of the travellers jumping out the window in the air after him.  He dusted the dirt off his body and  realized he was in the field area of some sort of facility. He could see tall buildings around and a high fence  covered the large area.

"Welcome Kante" a voice called out. Kante turned around to see a woman approaching.

Kante recognized the woman's voice.

"You were the voice in the forest," he said.

"Indeed" she replied.

She thanked the travellers for bringing Kante and beckoned on him to follow her.

Kante followed,  asking her questions to which she didn't give  answers.

"Were you in the forest? How could I hear your voice in my head there?" Kante kept asking.

The woman only told Kante to be calm, for all his questions would be answered in due time, he shouldn't worry but needs to freshen up.

They walked a distance and came into a small building not too far from the field. It was a sporting arena, Kante could tell because he saw a swimming pool and other sporting equipment. The woman showed Kante where he could bathe and said "freshen up and come see me at the tent just behind this building" then she left.

Kante admired the facilities for a while, touching them before he proceeded to go have his wash. When he was done he proceeded to look for the tent as the woman instructed. He found it in no time. He walked in and found her sitting in front of a computer, probably working on something.

The woman stared at Kante as he walked in. He was tall,   with hazel-nut brown skin, he wore thick, smooth brows, and had eyes the colour of caramel brown, followed by a perfectly rounded nose and  pink lips . He was in good shape and had wavy hair which seemed to relax on his head cause they were wet.

She offered Kante a seat and made him coffee .

"You gonna tell me what's going on now?" Kante said as he took a sip of the coffee.

"Indeed I will," the woman said.

She started by introducing herself.

"My name is Bonclyde and I'm a Wizardess" she said.

Kante let out a loud laugh, thinking she was trying to be funny. Looking at her he realized she wasn't joking.

"You're serious?" Kante asked.

"Yes" Bonclyde replied.

"Wizardess isn't even a thing, perhaps you mean witch, and yet witches aren't real" Kante said.

"Oh they are very real in this world and are very different from us, Wizardesses" Bonclyde replied.

Kante looked visibly confused trying to process what Bonclyde had told him.

"What do you mean, 'In this world?" Kante asked, "Is there any other world?".

"Yes there are many worlds in the vast multiverse like the one you travelled here from" Bonclyde answered.

"Are you kidding me right now? What's all this nonsense, Travelled? Multiverse? I'm done with this rubbish"

Kante said as he lost his patience.

"I'm going to find my way back and sue you for kidnapping," he said as he got up and lashed out of the tent angrily.

He was a step outside the tent when he felt his feet leave the ground,  he felt a push as he floated. In a flash, he was back on the chair where he sat. He couldn't move.

"Don't bother, you won't be able to move till I let you"

Bonclyde said, noticing Kante struggling to move.

"You're doing this? but how?" Kante asked.

"Told you I am a Wizardess, believe me now?" Bonclyde replied.

Kante remained quiet.

"Everything, as strange as it sounds is true…I'm a Wizardess, it's why you could hear me in the forest. This isn't the world you know, It's like earth except it's not. I can't have you roaming this world which you know nothing about, so you'll have to listen to what I have to say"

Bonclyde continued,

"For a moment I need you to forget everything you know, for  in this world what you think is real, and what isn't are different. . The stories, folktales, fairy tales, most of them are true. The Mythical creatures, vampires, werewolves, fairies, elves, are all real."

Kante thought he was losing his mind, perhaps this is all an Illusion, the speech was too shocking to listen to.

"This isn't an Illusion" Bonclyde said, reading his mind,

"You crossed into another dimension in space, a different Universe, and I am assigned to help you understand what's going on"

Kante finally decided to keep an open mind to the possibility that he was hearing the Truth.

"So how did I get here?" He asked.

"I was hoping you could tell me that, what was the last thing you remember doing before here?" Bonclyde asked.

Kante told her about exploring the Krowlotu's Mansion in Samballa, and how he suddenly found himself in the forest not knowing how he got there.

"Strange" Bonclyde muttered.

"Strange? You sounded like this shit was normal for you guys before" Kante said.

"Crossing universes is normal but it is done only through portals created, stationed and monitored by Travellers. When you arrived the Travellers who should sense it didn't, I was the one who sensed you and asked them about it before they knew you were here and went for you. Now I know why, you didn't access any of their portals, there is no portal in the place you said you where" Bonclyde replied.

"If I didn't come through a portal then how did I get here?" Kante asked.

Bonclyde was silent for a while, obviously thinking. Finally she spoke up and said: "I have to find out some other way".

"What other way?" Kante asked as he watched her move quickly toward him, he still couldn't move from the chair he sat on and was getting anxious and a bit frightened. He watched her approach him and saw her eyes turn white. He tried to scream but couldn't. He struggled to no avail to run and waited helplessly for what will happen. In a rush she grabbed his hand and touched his forehead. Kante let out a cry as her glowing eyes covered his face and he found himself falling off a cliff as his screams echoed.
