Chapter 41 - First steps of a baby

It was already evening. Pheasants were being roasted at one side while Edward was making a useable piece of pottery. The search party that was sent earlier by Roc to find willow leaves had found some leaves after hearing Edwards's description. The only thing left was a pot to boil the willow leaves in water.

After a while, one of Edwards's tries was a success. After the pot was enough heated, Edward quickly took it out from the fire and placed in cold water to cool it down and solidify it.

"Not bad. Finally, I succeeded in making one. Quickly throw in the willow leaves Roc. We have to make Daisy's medicine as soon as possible."

Roc put the willow leaves and willow bark that had already been prepared, into the pot. Edward placed the pot above direct fire. After a while, the water in the clay pot was boiled.

The aspirin decoction was finally created. Roc and Edward quickly made their way towards Daisy.

Daisy laid upon a grass mat, slumbering while her little face was red and her body was burning. Edward reached out to touch her and was shocked.

'This is serious! Her condition will get worse if we delay anymore.'

"Hurry up and help her up!" he ordered Night who was already by Daisy's side.

Even Night understood the severity of the situation. She shed tears in silence while helping up Daisy to sit up straight. Edward took the willow medicine he had made and brought the liquid to Daisy's lips.

"Daisy this medicine is a bit bitter but you must drink it, got it?"

Daisy was still not properly conscious and thus only weakly nodded.

Daisy frowned after drinking the medicine. Edward estimated that she might be burning from the inside. He quickly motioned Roc to bring him the pot with water.

Edward didn't know if it was the effect of drinking water or his medicine but after drinking, Daisy lay down again but she finally showed some clarity in her eyes.

"Light brother, no one has ever been so good to me before I met you. I saw you bringing back so many deer. I was so happy….." Daisy spoke softly. Her voice barely a whisper.

Edward put his finger over her lips and smiled at her. He motioned for her not to talk.

"Get a good night's sleep before doing anything."

The cave was kept illuminated and warm by a few burning coals. Several people sat around silently and no one spoke a word. It was soon getting dark,

In Edward's heart, he was worried and secretly prayed for Daisy.

'The primordial human body has not been exposed to any chemicals. What of this much concentrated salicylic acid should be enough for her to have an immediate effect?'

Edward could only wonder in worry.

After a few hours of sleep, Daisy suddenly woke up. The tiredness in her eyes gone way.

"I'm hungry!" was the first thing Daisy spoke after waking up.

Edward, who was working at making more pottery was surprised after hearing her voice. He rushed towards her and reached out to touch her forehead.

'Her body temperature seems to be back to normal. Thank goodness'

Edward finally breathe a sigh of relief.

"Great! Roc go and quickly get a roasted pheasant for her."

Roc quickly handed over the barbecue pheasant to Daisy.

True to her savage nature, Daisy devoured the bird in the wildest way possible.

Night's eyes flashed and she asked: "Light, this medicine is so spiritual. Before this people would just burn up and die a few days later. I was worried about losing Daisy but you saved her!"

"Night things won't be the same as the past….. Oh, I feel hungry. Let's go and eat barbecue."

When Edward walked out of the cave, he saw numerous bonfires outside while the air was filled with the smell of barbecue. However, dozens of people sat around the bonfires, staring like hungry wolves at the roasted pheasant.

When these people saw Edward coming out, they all stared at him instead.

"Why haven't they started eating yet?" Edward felt strange that these people kept staring but not eating the meat.

"Light Bro, I asked them to wait," Roc smiled. "I said to them, the meat that is roasted today is brought to us by the leader and we cannot eat before he allows us. This is the proper way to show respect to you as a leader"

'Isn't this is too cruel, right? For how long have these people not eaten? Such a fragrant barbecue is in front of their eyes for the first time in their lives and yet they can't eat it. Is this not tormenting people?'

Edward pondered for a moment and reached a conclusion. At least for today, he can let this go. Today was a big day. The day that will change their lives.

'They should remember this day for ages. Maybe I should make a speech.'

Thinking of this, Edward cleared his throat,

"Oh savage brothers of mine!~"
