"Light, my mother was the previous Matriarch of the tribe. It isn't usual for a woman to be the leader…..but…but she was really really strong."
Night took a pause before continuing:
"One day she took everyone to find food. On the way, they found a leopard who was about to die from serious injuries. My mother wanted to wait for the leopard to die and skin it for its skin so she could give it to me. The current Patriarch, the one who refused to let you stay with the tribe, found a saber-toothed tiger cub nearby. He wanted to kill it without telling anyone. But this angered the nearby mother saber tooth tiger who chased after him. He led the saber tooth tiger towards everyone and my mother died to save them all"
Speaking of this, Night wiped the tears that were in the corner of her eyes.
"I later made an oath. No matter who it is, as long as he can kill a saber-toothed tiger and let me have its teeth, I will be his woman."
Edward nodded thoughtfully, thinking, Night must see through his own thoughts, but this was also good for him.
He looked at the beautiful girl in front of him and whispered:
"What if I can pull out the teeth of a saber-toothed tiger?"
Night grasped his hand, and her dark eyes shone.
"Light! I really hope that the person who wins me is you! But the saber-toothed tiger is too big and fierce, and its skin is thick and tough. Your bow and arrow can't hurt it."
"Night, leave the worrying to me. You keep your oath. Okay?" Edward stared at the beautiful face that peered back at him. He leaned forward and rubbed his nose against her's.
Because they had to stay overnight, they got a lot of firewood. The rest of the party had learned how to make fire and how to keep it burning so Edward didn't have to do all the work.
Two fat pheasants were grilled on the bonfire while its scent spread everywhere.
The meat of the birds was much more fragrant than the rough rabbit meat. Everyone was drooling with saliva because of the scent.
"Light... Light brother, if these are not enough to eat, I... I can hunt again.... roast one?" Debro asked with a silly look on his face.
"Of course, Roc hit 2 pheasants today. As long as we have enough arrows for the deer, it's okay to hunt more." Edward poked the fire and smiled towards Night over the antics of the other Debro.
He rotated the wooden sticks that held the pheasant, while the oil inside of them penetrated from their skin and was dripping on the fire and making a sizzling sound. He continued,
"Once you encounter a deer, you have to stop everything and get in attention! Do you understand?"
Roc was a very intelligent young man. He patted the bow and arrows next to him, staring at Edward's eyes, and assured Edward:
"Brother, all my remaining arrows will hit the deer! I will not let you down!"
If this time the hunting was successful, then they can equip themselves with more bows. This would let them make the most sophisticated hunting and attacking team of primitive society.
The saber-toothed tiger was not a distant dream either.....
Debro and Roc each held a roast pheasant and ate a mouthful of its meat. Edward and Night just shared one of the trapped rabbits between themselves.
"Hey, these feathers need to be collected. Light has a use for them." Night reminded Roc and Debro.
Edward appreciated the carefulness of Night. In this era, they must make the best of everything. Nothing could be wasted.
Nothing happened during the night.
