Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Pauper Anbabu

With the dual assistance of Zhou Kun and the Magic Association, little Naby finally earned a medallion that belonged to her as a magic trainee, even though she did not quite deserve it.

Zhou Kun watched as the little girl Naby hold the medallion in her hand carefully—the corners of his lips curling up uncontrollably.

He now finally understood the reason why parents often spent money on gifts to teachers. Although their child would only end up getting a useless stamp, the happiness it would give their child was priceless.

After the enjoyable ambiance, Luke finally shifted the topic onto Anbabu, the main focus of the day.

"The Ambergris that you sold to me previously had really been of great help to me, Mr. Cohen."

"Mage Luke, don't stand on ceremony with me. After all, you've paid much higher than the market price."

"Recently, I've reached a critical stage in my experiments again. Mr. Cohen, I wonder if you could offer me some Ambergris again?" This time, Luke used the word 'some', a clear indication of his desire to acquire all the Ambergris that Zhou Kun had.

"Actually, Anbabu and I are friends. I have to discuss with him the amount of Ambergris he'd like to produce."

Luke obviously didn't believe his lies. It was clearly an excuse. He was tactful and smart.

"The noble existence of the dragon is something no one can deny. The price that I offer for the Ambergris this time will definitely not be lower than the previous time. In addition, it would be great if you can provide some dragon scales or other items, Mr. Cohen."

In the end, after some bargaining, Zhou Kun sold Anbabu's scales, Ambergris, and nails to the Magic Association for a price of 800 Dragon Crystals, as a package.

"Anbabu, the Magic Association will be giving you an all-round skin treatment later. Remember to give them a few drops of your saliva as payment when it's over."

Anbabu rolled its eyes at Zhou Kun, but it did not turn him down.

Hence, a group of mages carefully approached Anbabu to wash its scales and clip its claws.

Their skillful and meticulous service made Anbabu feel so comfortable that he wanted to fall asleep.

Zhou Kun felt that raising a dragon was much more cost-effective than owning a car. He could use it as a mode of transport and a tool that could bring him glory, as well as allow him to pretend to be impressive. He would have to pay for car washes but cleaning a dragon was different. Others would have to pay him to clean his dragon.

In the end, Luke patted his chest and assured that he would send someone to escort little Naby safely to the Iron Empire. Zhou Kun then gave Naby a few Dragon Crystals before leaving the Magic Association. He planned to go to the manor, so he could collect the goods and then return.

With the help of the Bansai Family this time, the efficiency of his good collection increased greatly. He collected a total of about 30 tons of watermelons and 10 tons of grapes. However, the dragon fruit belonged to strategic materials. The church, which lost the war, directly destroyed all the dragon fruit plants in Lan City. The latest batch of dragon fruit had yet to mature and ripen.

To Zhou Kun's surprise, he encountered some problems during the fruit harvest, such as Anbabu's maximum carrying capacity, which was about five tons. Hence, he couldn't transport all the watermelon and grapes back in a single trip.

Zhou Kun was troubled by that problem for a long time, and he suddenly recalled something. "Anbabu, it seems like you haven't taken me to your lair yet."

"Human, don't even think of coveting my treasures." It seemed that although Anbabu had signed a contract with the human in front of him, it knew that it had a long life that was much longer than the lifespan of humans, which was a mere hundred years. It was perfectly normal for dragons to overwork the Dragon Riders.

"Don't worry, I definitely won't covet your treasures. At the very most, I will rent them from you. How does 100 Dragon Crystals sound?" The solution that Zhou Kun had thought of was to use Anbabu's lair as a transit point. After transporting all of the fruit to Anbabu's lair, Anbabu could activate the Summoning Array at any time to enter his own lair. That problem would then be solved.

"100 Dragon Crystals?" Anbabu asked in a mellower tone. That was quite a large sum of money.

"Why don't you consider it? There are a hundred of these glittering Dragon Crystals, forming a pile," Zhou Kun said while gesturing with a Dragon Crystal in his hand.

Money would make dragons fall. In the end, Anbabu rented his lair to Zhou Kun.

Looking at the strange and rocky dragon lair in front of him, which only had a large mound of grass, Zhou Kun expressed great surprise. The dragon lair in front of him was too shabby compared to Pilux's.

As for the treasure that Anbabu was talking about, it was actually only the size of his fist and was carefully hidden in that mound of grass. Zhou Kun felt that any piece of gold cherished by any elderly lady in his nation would be much more valuable than what Anbabu was keeping.

Zhou Kun felt that he had incurred a loss. Country bumpkins like Anbabu which had never seen the world before could be coaxed with just a few gold coins. He didn't have to offer him any Dragon Crystals at all.

Anbabu obviously felt that it seemed shabby too. Hence, it explained awkwardly, "I don't have much of a reputation in Aomu Continent either. There are naturally lesser adventurers who come here because they admire me, compared to Pilux, so..."

"Forget it, don't explain anymore. Clean this place up first."

Anbabu knew that its lair was too shabby. Hence, it took the initiative to clean up the lair. It moved all the jagged and strange rocks out of the way, finally clearing up an open space.

Looking at the dragon that was bending over for gold coins, Zhou Kun suddenly asked, "Anbabu, do you still want to earn money?"

"How can I make money?" asked Anbabu, instantly becoming more energetic at the mention of earning money.

Previously, it had taken the risk with the black dragon to launch a sneak attack on Pilux because it had coveted Pilux's treasures. In the end, it ended up losing itself without even getting any treasures.

He brought Zhou Kun around the place today and managed to earn himself a bath service. He even went to earn money. In terms of making money, he was not as competent as Zhou Kun the adventurer.

"Teach me magic. I'll give you ten Dragon Crystals for every magical spell that I manage to pick up successfully."

Zhou Kun stated the thought that he had always had.

Actually, Zhou Kun had been wanting to learn magical spells a long time ago. However, he had been too busy with purchasing fruit before.

Besides, there was no one he could trust. Accordingly, Zhou Kun did not dare to take the risk of revealing his secrets to anyone.

Previously, be it Hughie or Luke, if any one of them knew that he was just an ordinary person, he might not be able to keep what he had.

However, Anbabu was different. It was bound to Zhou Kun by a contract and so his secrets would never be divulged.

The turmoil on Aomu Continent made Zhou Kun feel uneasy. Although he now had Anbabu to rely on, he could only take the initiative and be in control if he were stronger.

"No, you have almost no magical talent. I could already tell it previously."

Anbabu declined without even turning its head. It did not expect Zhou Kun to be referring to that when he mentioned earning money.

"Not even basic magical spells?"

"That's not impossible, but it's too difficult. Without talent in magic, it would be ten times harder for you to learn magic compared to ordinary people. Your chances are too slim. Just give up!"

Zhou Kun felt indignant after hearing those words. He immediately took out the two remaining bottles of peach juice from his pocket and chugged them in one go. "How about now?"
