Chereads / Grimore: Path to Power / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

'Take hold of me and I will give you the power you seek. Do you not understand? I thought you would do anything for power?' The deep voice rings inside Jon's head.

'I'm afraid.' Jon looks at the book, a pit drops in his stomach. It twists, making him want to throw up. Jon has never had to make a decision like this on his own. The more he looks at the book the more it feels like a bad choice. Why has it been sealed and thrown into Murky Pond?

'There is nothing to fear. They sealed me because they feared me. They didn't try to understand me.' The book spoke, his voice almost sounding sad.

Jon's hands reach forward through the water. He can feel the power of the seals pushing him back. His toes land in the mucky bottom and walks forward. Push his head down, trying to fight the power of the seals. The dull red glow starts to brighten. The blue chains start to crack even more. One of the paper seals gets ripped off by the water.

'You are stronger than you think. I can feel it. Truths have been hidden from you and we shall unlock them.' The books voice start to laugh wildly. It grows louder and louder. 'You are the same as me, seal because they fear. Fools, Fools I say.'

Jon pushes one last time, closing the few feet to the book. Now he is standing over the book, he can see the rough leather the book was made from. Wondering how long the book has been at the bottom of this pond? Why did they seal such a book where anyone can find it? His hands grab ahold of the book, power crawling through his forearms. He can see the ripples of it through his skin. He tries to let go of the book but his hands are sealed to it.He pulls with everything he has, but they won't budge.

'What are you doing? I came to help you and you are ripping me apart?' Jon cries in his head.he places his feet on the large rock the book is bond to. Pushing with everything he has. He can see the dull red glow slowly leave the book, his hands start to admit a faint red glow themselves.

'Ah, the feel of a human body. It has been thousands of years since I last had a human body to move around in.' A evil chuckle comes from the books voice. 'Do not free, I do not have the power to take over your body. But we must hurry and leave this pond and this school.'

Jon's tight grip on the book loosens. He can feel his lungs starting to burn. The rage is starting to burn within him as well. Angry at the book for not telling him what he was about to do. Why did the book come into his body and now he has to leave the school, the very one he worked so hard to get into? Jon pushes off the mucky bottom, slowly raising.

'That book will never be unsealed from there, I needed to move my soul out of it. There is good news and bad news with this.' The voice spoke out, it must be feeling the hurt and anger with Jon.

'What is the bad news?' Jon ask as the break the surface of the water. The rain from earlier is still coming down hard. Rainy season YuTuck Kingdom. It can rain for weeks at a time, flooding everything in this place.

'Ah, like to save the good stuff for last. Both of our souls are within your body. You body is too weak to hole my soul. I have enough power to keep your body in tack for a week.'

'What happens in a week?' Jon gulps as he ask the one question he really doesn't want to ask now.

'Your body will explode and you will die. I need another book.' Jon's body froze in place on shore as the words rings through his head. He has a week to find a book that this evil soul can go into or his body will explode. He was right, this was the bad news.

'What's the good news?' Jon came the hope raising with him. This needs to be the best news of a life time. He's not sure he can handle more bad news.

'I left another book, I knew this would happen one day and I was prepared. Head north, if we move fast, we should be able to get there in a week. I hope.' Dread fills Jon's body at the words of the book.

Jon sits down on the ground and thinks, 'will I ever have a easy time?' His head drops between his legs and arms flop to his side. The gloominess taking over. He has seven days to make it to a place he doesn't know.

'Why do you knock yourself down with thoughts like those? You're a Hilgrass. Now start acting like a one. I have been waiting long enough for the one who would unlock me and I sure in the hell are not going to die because you want to more around.' The books, while I guess it's a soul now, voice became stream. Like a father scolding his child.

'What do you know of Hilgrass? You said my no good fathers name, but a lot of people know his name.' Jon raise from the ground, turns and walks north. He has no place to get supply's from and the clothing he has on are the only ones he owns. Ever since his father left, his family has been in a downward spiral. He's been praying he'd come back and help the family, but it hasn't happen yet. Maybe this will be chance for him to get out and prove himself. The main question is, what can he learn from an old book that's been stuck at the bottom of pond?

'I know more about Hilgrass then you do. But now is not the time for you to learn such things. They will come in time. For now we need to make your body stronger and I know just how to do it.'

'Really?'

'Yep, your going to be more then a mage, you will start to walk the path of power, to become a Girmore.'

'Girmore? A book? You want me to become a book so I have to wait for some idoit to come help me because I can't get up and walk around?'

'No you fool, those are Grimoire. That is what I am. A Girmore, is a step in becoming a legend and becoming stronger then everyone. You will go beyond a mage of the YuTuck Kingdom.'
