But she was once again spared, this time by June, as she said, "Actually yeah. We all thought it would be nice for her to go and meet Mr. and Mrs. Sharp once." "She's promised to spend the rest of the week here though. Right Stella?" June added, turning to look at Stella who released a huge breath and said, "Yes. Yes. Sharp has been so kind to me. And I've heard so much about Mr. and Mrs. Sharp. I really should go and greet them."
Stella realized she had said something wrong as soon as the words left her mouth. Because each and every person in the parlor, including Sharp, was looking at her as though she had declared an intention to sprout wings and fly. Mrs. Ambrose was the first to recover as she let out a smile and walked over to Stella. "Of course dear. We understand. Go pay your respects. Den could really use the company." she said, patting Stella lovingly on the arm.
Stella blinked and frowned. She wondered what Mrs. Ambrose meant by that. But before she couls ask, Stella was buried under the combined weight of June and Allen. "I'll miss you. Come back first thing in the morning." June said and Allen also piped in with, "If you don't, I'm coming to kidnap you."
A laugh bubbled in Stella's throat upon hearing this, but it vanished when Allen dropped his voice and whispered, so low that not even the other vampires in the room would have heard him, "Call us if anything feels weird. No matter how trivial it seems." Stella blinked and looked at the two of them, confused. Neither of them gave any reaction except a barely noticeable nod from June before Stella heard Penelope calling out to her.
Stella met Simon near the main door, he handed her a few tablets and said, "Eat these after dinner tonight." Stella nodded and reached out for the tablets. Simon dropped them on her outstretched palm, and before she could withdraw it, grabbed her hand. He pulled her close with lightning speed and muttered, "Be careful while you sleep tonight. Lock the door and the windows."
Simon stepped back before Stella could register what was happening. She walked outside following Sharp and the others, wondering why everyone was acting so weird. Her apprehensions were growing by the second and Stella wondered if she was making some very huge mistake by going to Sharp's house as she approached the group in front of the main entrance.
"Sure you don't want to take a car?" June was asking and Sharp was shaking his head as he said, "Running's faster" "Unless you would prefer we drive?" he added, turning a questioning glance in Stella's direction, who blinked and pointed to herself. "Me?" she asked, wondering if Sharp really had a concussion. Why was he asking her opinion today. She pulled herself out of her thoughts and spoke, plastering a smile on her face, "Running is nice. I want some fresh air anyway."
Everyone nodded upon hearing her, and after some murmured goodbyes, the three set off, Stella following behind Sharp and Penelope.
They had set off at vampire running pace, and Stella easily kept up. Keeping one eye on the two in front of her, Stella let her mind wander to the weird events of tonight.
