Chapter 82 - I told you so

Simon didn't reply as he finished X-raying Stella's leg.

As he sat down to wait for the result, Simon spoke, "Stella, you definitely knew both of your parents right? Your mom and dad were, in fact, your biological parents?"

"Why?" Stella began, confused, but stopped as she realized why had Simon been asking this.

"I was sure they were till now. Now? I don't know." Stella continued, "But they couldn't have been vampires, could they? I mean, I'm nothing like you guys."

"But what about one of them? No. That isn't possible. She's too fragile." Simon muttered to himself, shaking his head.

"What do you . . . . . ." Stella began to stopped when the machine beeped. The X-ray was ready.

Simon looked at the X-ray and his jaw fell. Despite the situation, Stella wanted to laugh. His expression was just too comical. And seemed like she had won the bet too.

"I don't believe it!!?? How?? Why!!" Simon muttered, sitting down on a chair.

"Hate to say I told you so, but. I told you so." Simon was brought out of his thoughts by Stella"s words. "Seems like we're going to a sports ground." Stella said, jumping down from the bed.

Simon also got up with a sigh, shaking his head. "It isn't normal. It isn't real." he muttered.

"Oh come on. Was it normal for me to have superhuman speed and strength? Was it real for me to be such a good manipulator? You accepted me with those, why can't you accept this?" Stella snapped suddenly.

Simon nodded and spoke, "I'm sorry Stella. I realize that this must be nerve racking for you."

Stella huffed. "That is why I want to take my mind off all this. I want to be a normal eighteen year old, even for a few hours." Stella spoke, her voice becoming lower with every word. She shook her head and walked towards the door, saying, "Come on. Let's go."

"Stella! Wait!!" Simon called out after her. Stella turned with a frown.

"Let me remove these bandages and band-aids from your minor wounds. I'm sure they must have healed too." he said.

Stella stood at the door for a few seconds, contemplating whether this was a clever ruse to stop her from going. She decided it didn't matter and walked back.

Simon parked his jeep in front of a very famous and big football practice stadium.

He spoke just as the two of them climbed out of the jeep, "Stella, I've brought you here against my better judgement. So please, try not to sustain any more injuries."

Stella held his hands and gave a reassuring smile. "I won't." she said and skipped towards the stadium.

"What kind of a doctor am I? Allowing my patient to roam like this when she should be resting." Simon sighed to himself before following Stella.

Stella happily skipped inside and almost burst with excitement to see a practice game underway. She watched the boys playing, shifting in her spot, clearly very anxious to join in herself.

Simon stood a step behind Stella and watched in wonder. This little girl who had barely seen anything of the world never failed to amaze him. And it was not just her unusual body, nor the various mysteries it held.
