Beep. Beep. Beep.
A strong smell of medicine wafted around inside the VIP patient room of Diamond Heart hospital. The room was extravagantly elegant with top-notch furnishings equivalent to a luxurious hotel.
The elegance and the dazzling brightness of the room though were overshadowed by the dark aura seeping out of the two gentlemen sitting at the corner of the room. Their worried and stern gazes locked on the beauty sleeping on the king-sized bed. Her overly pale skin was covered in bandages and a cast was put on her right arm. If not for the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor no one would even doubt that she was dead.
"Why didn't you tell me about this mission of yours?"
a cold voice echoed in the room pulling Wang Li out of his daze.
Wang Li sighed but his gaze was still locked on the young lady protectively. He suddenly looked as if aged beyond years.
"Young Master Yan, I had my reasons. The importance of this mission was too high to even risk for even the walls to hear about it. This was our only valid lead after so many years. I am sure the young Master can understand, given the severity of the situation."
The young man clicked his tongue and ran his hand through his coal-black hair. He knew very well how severe the situation was. After all, it involved the Qi family and he was not a stranger to the situation.
"Was the test positive?" he queried after some time.
Wang Li looked at the young Lady's face warmly as a layer of mist covered his eyes, tears threatening to fall, for the first time in his adult life he felt the urge to cry at the same time he also wanted to kill some people. What he was feeling was overwhelming and yet he restrained his urges to go crazy.
"Yes, we found her...
We found our little moon."
Wang Li confirmed with a shaking voice.
…
When Ming Yue came back to her senses, she had no idea where she was or how long she was unconscious. The last things she remembered were the two pairs of feet and a sense of peacefulness she felt in that unknown warmth of a person holding her right before she completely passed out.
Her muddled head got clearer as she slowly took in her surroundings. She was lying in a massive bed and the ceiling in front of her eyes was like an ancient piece of art – so high and with intricate carvings of designs around a hollow circular glass at the centre through which the sky could be seen. She let her gaze roam around the room – it was enormously big, just like those castle quarters in movies.
Admiring the dream-like luxurious furnishings of the room, her gaze finally stopped at a young woman in a maid outfit.
The young maid who was expertly preparing the medicated water in a washbasin to sponge the young lady felt a gaze at the back of her head. The trained maid, knowing that the young Miss was still unconscious, went on alert mode and quickly turned around ready with the hidden dagger inside her sleeve only to be met with a pair of light blue eyes looking at her questioningly.
"Hello," Ming Yue murmured in a dry voice and smiled awkwardly while keeping her eyes on the small dagger in the maid's hand. Judging from the situation, she knew that she was at least safe for now and in a warm bed.
After she lost consciousness, something must have led her here for the people of this house to take care of her. But she still felt awkward and cautious since she had no idea where she was or who these people were who were kind enough to take in a stranger.
The maid who was taken aback froze for a couple of minutes, almost dropping the dagger from her hands. She pulled herself together and dashed off in a panic, stumbling on her way and loudly calling for some Madam?
Ming Yue taken aback by what just happened couldn't even utter a word. She found it funny that the maid with the dagger got scared by an injured patient with bandages on. She found it rather cute and couldn't understand why she was feeling so peaceful at the moment. There were a ton of things to do after coming back to life, revenge to plan and destroy those who had underestimated her. But for some reason at this moment, she felt happy, glad and had a strange sense of belonging.
'Belonging', was a foreign word to her. Never in her life has she felt like she belonged somewhere. No one wanted her, no home was for her and no care was ever towards her. Abandoned by the ones she cared about once, betrayed by the one she loved the most, and the so-called snake-like friends that had only bitten her behind her back.
What was her sin? she only just wanted to be loved, to have a family, to have someone pat her head and say everything was okay. Was that too greedy of her? Was she someone who didn't deserve such things?
As the thoughts became muddled, a dry sob left her mouth. She pursed her lips and buried her face in the warm puffy pillow. The smell of lavender soothed her senses as she took a big whiff.
"ah, this feels nice and warm",
That was the last thing she thought of before drifting back to a peaceful sleep, her fatigue and injured body taking over.
