August 2010.
Harry's X factor audition was soon to arrive. Last month he came to the conclusion that he had to put himself out there, to show the world that he truly had a talent (or so his mum said) he was even in a school band but Harry still lacked the confidence in believing he could be a star.
All it took was this one guy to show him his true worth.
* * *
"honey, quick we can't be late for your audition!"
Anne was too caught up in the moment, too excited for her son. She didnt even notice that he was terrified. It was hard enough to sing infront of your school but to sing infront of a whole country was absolutely petrifying . And not to forget, Simon Cowell and his judgemental self would be upon the audience. Pft, Harry was so not prepared.
He hadn't slept a wink last night. But who would? Especially when they had an audition for a talent show which would be broadcasted on British television for everyone to see.
Harry took a step into his mint coloured bathroom. The stingent smell of toothpaste filled the warm air. He loved the colour of his bathroom, it reminded him of cleanliness, and hygiene which was incredibly important to him.
He bagan to look in the mirror, he noticed that his curly hair was beginning to scratch the tips of his shoulders, as much as he hated his long hair, he loved how unique it made him. Everyone knew who Harry Styles was at school because they'd just refer him as the boy with "girly hair". He didn't understand why long hair was correlated to being feminine, but he let it slip.
"quick Harry, the lines going to be so long and I need to get some petrol on the way!"
Hearing his mother's voice quickly brought his attention back to reality. The next time he would see his house, he would have been in the presence of many talented people, and many harsh judges. But to worry was to suffer twice, so Harry just slipped on his converse, tied his shoes laces and made his way to the small turquoise car, parked on the front.
The journey there felt like an eternity, but it was only 2 hours. Watching cars pass by was so intreguing to Harry. How the people held stories, names, emotions and feelings. One thing that Harry was good at was staying in a world of his own. Thinking too deep into life that he'd forget to just be. And this was a moment where he needed to just be.
As he approached his destination, he opened the car door, the smell of adrenaline was palpable. He could almost touch the anxiety pouring from the arena.
His mum was right, the que was gigantic. People pushing, people crying, even people practising and performing. Harry could never perform outside. He would be to vulnerable. Which was totally ironic as he was about to sing on live television.
"woah, I didn't expect to see this many people. I don't think I'll make it" Harry whispered to himself.
Those doubtful words dropped out of Harry's mouth before he realised what he even said. Every pore on his body began to excrete sweat. Even in places he never knew could sweat. His mum quickly turned towards him, she must've heard what he said because she almost slapped him in the face with her long brunette point tail.
"oh Harry, of course there will be competition, but you're just as talented as all these people. Lack of confidence is not what you need right now"
Harry contemplated his mother's response for a moment until he thought that maybe she was right, lacking confidence at this moment really wasn't what he needed. If he wanted to win this, he had to believe he was capable. So he began to walk towards the que.
his eyes fell upon every single human he could see. Harry tried to figure out what their talents were. Although he was only successful with a few, as he later found out.
On the verge of panic, Harry searched in panaramic view for his mother, as he was too preoccupied with his fellow competators. At a quick glance he caught her. she was too over joyed that she had to let off some steam by talking to someone.
But something seemed strange, he didn't recognise the woman that his mother was speaking to, but the teenage boy that accompanied her caught Harry's eye. He knew this person, but he couldn't quite figure out where from.
Anne tugged Harry aside and began to introduce him to this new woman.
"Harry look!! This is my school friend
Jay. I can't believe it. What a small world!! she even has a son that's auditioning too! How ironic"
Anne began to laugh to herself, then continuing to talk to this Jay woman. The boy which was stood by Jay, began to talk.
"hey! I'm louis. Or Mr flamboyant as people tend to call me these days"
Harry was still trying to figure out how he knew this boy. Maybe he came over for tea once, after all his mother did say Jay was a friend. It'd make sense. So he stuck with that idea for now.
"erm, hi. I'm Harry"
Harry gave this Louis a little smile out of politeness. He wasn't quite sure why he was speaking to Harry. He's his competition right? Also just because Harry's mum is taking to his mum, doesn't mean they're required to talk. Harry just thought it was peer pressure.
"I like your hair. It's it naturally curly?"
Again Harry was confused as to why this boy was trying to interact with him. But Harry felt something, something he'd never experienced before. Louis' eyes were a distinctive blue colour. The type of blue that one could notice from Miles away. The type of blue that one could lose themselves in. He'd never met someone with such prominent coloured eyes. He was taken aback.
He didn't realise how good looking louis was until he took a leap from his thoughts and focused onto the guy in front of him. His nose was tiny, a little button nose accompanied with a few evenly dotted freckles placed upon his cheeks. His eyelashes were also extremely long. So incredibly dark and long. And his hair, a light brown colour, covering his left brow. A tinge of blonde shone through from the sunlight.
"hello, is there anyone in there??"
Harry realised that he was lost in his thoughts again.
"er sorry, what did you say?"
"I said that i like you hair, and I asked if it is naturally curly?"
Harry noticed that the boy pushed his glasses up towards his face. Almost as if he was genuinely interested.
"yes, they're natural. I er, I like your eyes"
The second Harry said those four words he died of embarrassment. What the hell was he thinking. That's not something you say to someone you've just met? Blood began to rush through his whole body. He wanted to cover up his tracks so he began to speak again.
"that sounded less strange in my head then it did out loud hah"
redness appeared on Harry's cheeks and Louis just laughed.
"well, I am ever so grateful"
But before Harry could reply, he was cut off by his mother.
"Harry come on let's go. Not long until you're up there my little star"
Harry almost fainted from embarrassment once again as his mother pinched his cheeks with affection.
"it was nice to meet you... Curly."
Louis threw Harry a wink.
A bunch of emotions flooded through Harry. He felt as though he was drowning in new feelings. Feelings he had never experienced before.
Then Louis walked away. And Harry was left tracing after his mother as though it was she who was auditioning today and not him.
