Evelyn walked out through the door, leaving Dave infuriated and disturbed.
"Fill Mr. Black with details and conditions," As soon as Evelyn's words fell on the ears of the people present, one man in the suit walked in to follow the order.
Evelyn did not wait for anyone to reply as she turned around and walked out of the company.
As Evelyn had a hand on her car handle, she heard a small voice calling her name from behind her.
"Can we talk?" It was a small voice that made Evelyn turn around to look at the person.
"Seems like you have finally calmed down. Are you sure you want to talk with me?" Evelyn folded her hand over her chest, oozing a domineering aura.
Evelyn's bodyguards were surrounding her, ready to defend their master. They have all listened to the brash cries emanating from the room earlier, blaming their master.
Olivia was nervous with so many intense eyes watching her every move. She loved the attention on her, but this kind of attention made her nervous and uncomfortable.
"Get in the car." Evelyn finally said after observing Olivia's expression.
"It would be better if I take my own car." Olivia had a motive in mind. She just wanted to have a proper talk with Evelyn and leave without leaving any traces.
"Suit yourself. Follow my car then." Evelyn waved her hand and sat in her car and left.
Olivia followed Evelyn's car, unaware that a set of hawk eyes sharply noticed their small interaction.
---------
"Tell me what you wanted to talk about." Evelyn sat opposite Olivia. They were sitting in a private room of 'Silver Inn.'
All the rooms were uniquely decorated and had their own characteristic. Their room today was based on a red and pink theme.
The chair was covered in red cloth with a unique design, which added a certain warmth to the room.
"Are you really not Dave's girlfriend?" Olivia jumped directly to the question clouding her mind.
After thinking it through, Olivia realized that Evelyn and Dave were never in a romantic relationship. 'But then who was the one Dave loved?' Not knowing the answer to this question was eating Olivia from inside.
"I don't think this the only question you wanted to ask me." Evelyn saw straight into Olivia's eyes. Her fingers were tapping on the wooden table in between them.
"Who is she?" Olivia looked at Evelyn hoping to get the answers, "Can you tell me?"
Seeing that Evelyn was silent after a while, Olivia added with a trembling voice, "You said she was one of your best friends."
"What does that matter to you now?" Evelyn's smile did not touch her eyes, "She has already left your husband's life and would never come back to haunt your picture-perfect life anymore."
It was true. Olivia still remembers the letter which she received on her wedding day. It was from an anonymous sender, but then even a dumb person can tell who wrote it.
The letter clearly stated that the lady in question does not blame Olivia for anything. It was the responsibility of Dave from the very beginning, and he had decided to marry someone else other than his own girlfriend. The lady has forgotten her love for Dave and also forgives Olivia. The sender even wished a happily married life for Olivia and Dave.
The letter was very emotional from beginning till the end and made Olivia's resolve crack. When Dave accidentally saw the letter, he was beyond furious. He crumpled the paper as he left the room and never entered their room again to date.
Olivia just wanted to know who was the girl that affected Dave's emotions to this extent. Olivia married the person who did not care what others thought about him, but still had someone else on his mind.
This was on their wedding day. Then, in the reception, Olivia saw Evelyn. Olivia had seen Evelyn before and has not left a single chance to belittle her. Olivia was going to be the wife while Evelyn was her husband's past love. Or so she thought. Even if they had any relationship prior to their marriage, Evelyn would forever be a mistress. A woman not recognized by any.
But now Olivia understood Evelyn was never the mistress, nor was she Dave's love.
The question still remained, 'Who did Dave love?'
The letter that Olivia received on her wedding day was intentional?
If the purpose of the letter was to make Dave guilty, Olivia wanted to tell the girl that her motive was achieved. Even though she was married to Dave, he has not touched her once.
"I want to meet her once." Olivia wanted to see the face of the girl capable of causing a whirlwind in her life.
"And do what?" Evelyn smoothened her hairs, "Let me tell you something very important, Mrs. Black."
Evelyn twisted her finger around her hair, creating a curl, "All your little tricks had worked once, but it will not work twice."
"What do you mean by that?" Olivia's eyes widened. She was confused about what to understand from this situation.
Evelyn's voice was low, as if she was telling some secret. Her voice made Olivia's ear bleed with terror.
"Don't think we are unaware of all the things you did to marry Dave." Evelyn smiled, "Nothing remains a secret in our world. You wanted to get married to him, and now you had."
"What your life brings to you has nothing to do with me or my friend. She gave her love a last chance, and he chooses you." Evelyn gazed at Olivia, her eyes were narrowed with hatred, "She had given up on him."
"Now whether you are a proper wife or a showpiece wife, your relationship with your husband is none of our concern."
Olivia's eyes were swelled and filled with droplets. Her life was filled with the things she wanted, but Olivia was not happy.
'Have Olivia's greed taken an ugly turn?' Olivia didn't care anymore. She had everything she ever wanted. She was a winner in this life.
"I am happily married." Olivia finally said. Was she telling this to Evelyn or reassuring herself was unknown.
"Says the lady whose husband has not entered their room once." Evelyn giggled mockingly. Looking at Olivia's stunned expression, Evelyn was sure she had hit the nail precisely.
"How do you.." Olivia's voice dies out in embarrassment.
"Your voice is really loud when you speak to your husband." Evelyn's eyes narrowed, "and I am not deaf."
An awkward silence filled the room. Olivia didn't talk, and Evelyn did not wanted to say a word.
"If you are done, please leave," Evelyn said when the silence was extended longer.
It was clear to Evelyn that Olivia only wanted to know the name of her friend, which was a dead cause from the start. There was no need to drag this conversation anymore.
Olivia narrowed her eyes. She wanted to say so much more, but her tongue was tied. Her brain was processing the words, but her mouth refused to let them out.
"And one last thing, don't let your minion contact Clara again," Evelyn said.
"Minion?" Olivia knew who Evelyn was talking about but still refused to acknowledge it. Admitting to it showed that she needed someone else to fight her battles.
"Your brother-in-law's girlfriend. What was her name again," Evelyn brushed her chin, "Layla?"
Olivia's eyes swelled at the mention of the name.
"If you want to speak with me again, contact me personally so I can have the pleasure of refusing you myself," Evelyn smirked as she leaned back on her chair.
Olivia's forehead fussed. "Layla met Clara?"
Olivia's voice was filled with uncertainty. Layla and Clara were friends. Even if they meet in private, what does that have to do with Olivia.
"Don't play dumb with me, Mrs. Black. I know it was your idea to let Layla contact Clara." Evelyn crossed her hands over, "Kyle's plan is important to you too, isn't it?"
'It is.' Olivia wanted to say it instinctively, but how did Evelyn know? Surely the influence of powerful families was tremendous. Olivia wanted to have this power.
Olivia was married into Black's household. She had enormous money to spend and status to flaunt. Olivia wanted to possess the connections now, the influence to have everything under her control. For this, Olivia needed to prove herself worthy. Maybe then Dave might look longer at her.
Olivia was a model to begin with. She was very popular and had a powerful background. She was beautiful and confident. Olivia's road was filled with hard work and ambition. She did not have the worst conditions, despite that, Olivia strived hard to be where she was now.
Olivia's social circle was the same as the other powerful families. But there was a little truth that everyone in the circle knew, but no one crossed. Even though the high society was portrayed as one, they were divided into three distinct classes. For the outside world, there was not much difference, but actually, the difference within them was huge.
At the bottom were the new riches who have recently turned rich over a few years, followed by the families who had money in their families through generation after generation like Olivia's family. And then some had money through generation but were too powerful to mess with.
Knight's, Sheldon's, and Black's dominated the top pinnacle. But recently, Day's have also joined them, whence was still unexplained.
All these three groups cohabitated mutually, but there was a tremendous difference between them. None of them tried to be too friendly with others.
When Kyle introduced Layla, the girl did not understand this general rule. Layla tried to befriend everyone with hope in her eyes to be a part of them.
None of the ladies liked her way of thinking or her way of communication. Layla was free-spirited and said what she felt like, irrespective of what others might think about her.
Olivia along with other ladies was not very fond of her, but no one said anything as Layla was backed up by Black's.
Now that Olivia has entered the top, she could see all the other families trying to befriend Layla. The ladies that used to hate Layla now saw her as a prospective future sister-in-law of Olivia.
Olivia did not like Layla a lot. She reminded her of her husband's first love without background and yet loved by the powerful.
Thus Olivia used Layla for her goal. Kyle's company would be her stepping stone for greatness. And if anything would go wrong, Layla would be the one taking the hit. After all, the poor girl wanted to please her future sister-in-law.
But Olivia never expected that Evelyn would know this.
