Chapter 57 - Youth Manchester Derby (3)

These actions appeared to have happened over a long period of time but it was only a couple of seconds as they were other players in the box looking to intercept the ball and spoil the attack after got past the leftback.

The City players, were also positioning themselves to score a goal or to draw the attention of some of the defenders inside the box.

If Tony had the option he would definitely go for an assist as he wanted to achieve the condition to copy the A- skill of the united player by getting two assist from the match.

He saw that he had an opportunity to shoot on goal to test the keeper, so he raised his legs in preparation to shoot but then saw that one of his team's midfielder was close to the other post and was unmarked as the keeper was focused on the ball.

Tony quickly sent a low cross through the space between a united defender and the space in front of the goalkeeper towards the man city midfielder who was totally unmarked at the left side of the post.

As the keeper saw the direction and trajectory of the ball he quickly tried to run to the other side of the post to try and position himself to keep the ballout.

The Man City midfielder raised his left foot to hit the ball into the empty side of the net but it appeared that the ball had hit his ankle bone, as the ball went over the post from point blank range.

The Man City fans and players all exclaimed in shock and regret over the missed opportunity as they mostly had thier hands on there heads, while the united fans performed mock claps and applause over the missed golden opportunity.

The midfielder that had missed the golden opportunity appeared shocked as he also held his head with his hands and knelt on the grass of the pitch.

His teammates patted him on the back in other to improve his morale and express there support to him as this kind of things could also happen to some of the best of players.

Tony was a little bummed about his missed opportunity to get an assist but he quickly got over it. He wasn't one of those players who would constantly complain about a teammate during a match as long as he knew it was an unintentional mistake.

Tony had gotten a lot of experience from watching Raheem Sterling in his previous timeline as he was the kind of player who could sometimes disappoint you in front of goal, until he later improved and was later a little bit more clinical in front of goal under the coaching of Pep Guardiola.

Tony and the other players all patted the player on the shoulder and encouraged him a little after they had all overcome there shock from the missed opportunity as they went back to there positions to resume the game.

The game continued as both teams continued to look for chances to score a goal until the referee blew the whistle to end the first half of the match, as the half ended in a 0:0 draw.

Both set of players went to there respective locker rooms to rest and recieve instructions from their managers.

During the half time Coach Taylor advised the man city players to occasionally mix it up by also making use of long balls to beat the pressure from the United players.

After all the minor tweaks and new instructions the players all went out to the pitch as Man City resumed the second half.

Both teams continued to battle for the ball as they both hoped to open the scoring. Tony was now seeing more of the ball as Man City was now more active on the ball as they continued to look for a chance to successfully put the ball into the net of the opposition.

The second half saw both teams make more tactical approach as the midfield was choked in their respective bids to keep more possession of the ball.

But still the defense of Man utd was well prepared as they constantly broke down the attacks and successfully intercepted a few long passes towards the forward City players.

Tony also played two long passes to the forward players who were in forward positions and close to the last defenders from United but they were still out muscled by the defenders of united.

The match continued as United also sent there players on the attack in other to find the lead. City focused on defense when they didn't have the ball and tried to hit them on the counter once they got hold of the ball.

Tony had been trying his best to successfully pull the strings in the match but United was really compact and were very focused as they successfully avoided making any errors that could lead to goal.

The game was balanced until the 75th minute when United finally opened the scoring with a stroke of luck. The city players were mostly jam packed in there box in other to prevent utd from scoring when a midfielder from utd got the ball from outside the box and shot the ball towards the net.

The ball was deflected from the body of a City player and went towards the opposite side of the net the goalkeeper had already started moving towards. The wrong footed goalkeeper could only painfully watch as the ball went into the net.

The utd players and fans exploded with excitement as they finally got to celebrate a goal in the derby as the city players and fans could only watch dejectedly.

After they celebrated and the match began, the Man City players Immediately came out of there box as they tried to immediately try to force an equalizer.

The tempo of the match immediately increased as Man City kicked off to resume the game after the goal. They passed the ball quickly amongst themselves as they tactically moved the ball towards the United goalpost.

Man City made a double substitution in the 79 minute as a defender and a central midfielder were subbed out for a Striker and an additional attacking midfielder to come into the match.
