He felt awful as he carried her away to his home. He didn't mean to harm her. He didn't mean to do anything to her. He only wished to speak with her. He had been longing for her company for a while now, but he never could gain the courage to speak up and state his feelings to her. Now, he had even hurt her. He could see with the pale moonlight the bruises on her neck which were caused by him.
He had simply gone outside for a stroll. His constant fighting with his family was taking its toll on him. His patience wore down greatly. It ended at the point of him fuming with anger and stomping out the door, slamming it behind him. He'd walked a distance down the street when he saw her again. She was sitting on the steps of her home gazing at the moon. The moonlight showed every delicate detail of her face. The slight breeze billowing through her long brown hair. Her hazel eyes shining softly held a peaceful emotion. The emotion was felt all the way to his heart and he calmed down.
It was broken, however, when he walked up to her. He only wanted to say hello. He only wanted to speak with her and gaze at the moon with her for a while before he'd have to go home again. She turned to him. He smiled a wide toothy grin. The shock in her eyes to see him was enough to make him wonder what was wrong. However, the shock turned to fright, and she stood and ran away from him.
He ran after her, unknowing of the change which occurred with his body. He never noticed the way he grew taller. Never noticed the slight change in his eyesight in the darkness. Never noticed any of it, until it was too late, and he had already harmed her. Feeling guilty, he carried her on his back as he ran towards his home.
His house seemed to be ordinary, but in reality it was far from it. Below the house, way underground, was a laboratory. His parents were scientists studying on how to bring the supernatural to life. Basically, the wanted to make everyone in the world have the longevity and immortality of a god. They wanted to make everyone in the world minor gods. He felt it was wrong but had no place to argue with them over it. In fact, it's the very subject he argued with them over this night. The house was surrounded by and electrical barrier. The barrier had sensors to indicate who was family, friends and who was an enemy. At least he could pass through with her.
On the other hand, it also contained a feature which sent a signal every time someone entered and exited the building along with how many there were. He sighed. There's the trigger. He couldn't hide her. The system was too advanced for that. Even if he used some sort of invisible shield, the barrier could still detect it and determine whom the person (or people) was. He sighed again. Oh well, he thought. He would have to deal with the consequences.
He arrived. As he had thought, his mother and father were standing there waiting at the door for him. What he hadn't predicted, however, was the shock and amazement on their faces and in their eyes. He suddenly felt the girl was much heavier. He hadn't noticed how he'd turned back as soon as he'd walked through the barrier. (How did it recognize him anyway? He would ask them later). The first one to speak up was his mother.
"Kyle, where have you been?" She inquired. He could hear the worry and concern in her tone. She hugged him. Kyle hugged her back.
"I'm fine, Mom. I only went for a walk." He rubbed her back as she started sobbing. His mother was such a crybaby and a worry wart.
His father, on the other hand, was sterner, stricter. His personality was built almost as if he were meant to be the ruler of some kingdom. He was, too, when it came to the science world. Being the head of a company is a burden in of itself, let alone trying to raise a family on top of it. He glared at Kyle for a few minutes, then slowly walked inside without saying a single word or so much as glancing back. Kyle sighed. His family was so difficult most of the time. He wondered how he ever survived this long.
His mother stopped sobbing finally. She pushed back at an arms length to look at him better. "At least you aren't hurt," she said as a matter-of-fact. She studied him up and down. As she glanced down, she noticed the girl lying on the ground. "Oh good heavens! Who is this girl you've brought home with you?" She pointed at her.
He looked. He had forgotten she was even there. "Oh her. I found her and brought her with me. She had been attacked by something and passed out. I brought her here to help her." Well, it was half the truth. It wasn't exactly a lie. He had been the one who attacked her. He was the one who harmed her. He just couldn't let his family know it was him. His mother eyed him suspiciously. She knows there's more than he's willing to say, but she also knows how he loves his privacy. She would interrogate him on it later. For now, he was home. It was all that mattered.
"Are you hungry? Let's go inside and warm up. I will ready the guest room for your friend there." She smiled softly at her son. He nodded. Kyle was tired. All he wanted to do now was flop on his bed and drift off into dreamland - which is exactly what he did.
