Chapter 35 - The mute girl

After spotting Caleb and William, Julie came to them with a big smile. Caleb blinked twice when she reached near. It really was Julie and she was back. " Why...didnt you tell us?"

Julie did a hand sign. Caleb and William had learned sign language so they understood. Meanwhile, Veronica nudged Wish, " whats she saying??"

" She said she went to another country to have a surgery..." Wish replied to which the other three became surprised.

" Ahh...what cant my sister-in-law do..." Veronica said proudly. " I once used to volunteer for disabled children's institute." she replied awkward and looked up to see Julie staring at her with the same weird expression. Why did she look so irritated?

Julie turned away and Caleb started asking unending questions. She eyed to William, the guy she used to like so much but he turned away, sipping his drink. It hurt her seeing him looking away but she ignored and continued listening to Caleb like nothing had happened.

Julie suddenly turned to Wish, asking for her introduction. " Ohh, you havent met Wish right?" Caleb told remembering. Tension filled the air as Julie waited for someone to speak.

"William is supposed to introduce you but if he doesnt want, then i will." Veronica finally cut the silence. " This is Wish Lennon, William's future bride and fiancee."

William was still quiet and Wish looked worried. She felt guilty because she knew how much Julie liked Brent. And now the person she liked had a finacee standing right infront of Julie. When she collected the courage to look at Julie, her face was shocked. There was also pain in her eyes but she shook it and gave a tight smile, offering her hands to Wish. Wish slowly shook it, still unable to look into her eyes.

Caleb nodded lightly at Wish, mouthing 'dont worry'. She could only nod back. All this time, William hadnt uttered a single word and Wish wondered why. He had no reason to be this cold with her.

"Are you not going to Speak?" Caleb asked him, annoyed.

William kept swirling with his drink, " I am listening."

" Julie came back after two years and you dont have a thing to say??" It was starting again. They might end up arguing in the party. Before that happened, Julie shook Caleb's hands and gestured 'its okay.' He only sighed heavily, keeping quiet.

Mr.Wilson headed towards the corner, getting himself a drink. He was back after two years from his sudden hiatus and nobody knew where he went. Now he was back with his daughter who everybody thought was dead. This was actually one of the most bizarre thing they had seen.

Mr.lennon and Mrs.lennon whispered among themselves and moved away from him. They always had something negative against any odd person.

As he stood there alone, drinking his alcohol unfazed, Mr.brent decided to go to him. Unlike everyone, he used to be pretty close with the Wilsons. Though he was always private about his personal life. " Harold...." he called to the man, who immediately looked back, " What happened?....these two years, you suddenly disappeared and now....with your daughter."

Mr.wilson smiled, " You were the only one worried about me. Thankyou for your concern."

Mr.brent scrunched his brows, confused with whatever he said. He didnt even answer the question. " Where were you, Harold?"

He continued drinking his alcohol, not answering the question. Mr.brent knew he was always pretty weird at times but today, he looked very aloof. It seemed like he didnt even recognise Mr.brent. " Harold, do you remember me?"

Mr.wilson slowly looked up, his round glasses reflected the chandelier, " Julie went through so much. I did everything i could as her father. You understand it well dont you, Mr.brent. How far we can go just to make our children happy?"

Mr.brent felt something was off but what he told was the truth. He had no idea what Mr.wilson had to do for Julie but he did understand it all too well. What could he not do for William. He agreed with Mr.wilson and he was back to being silent as he drank from the glass.

In the crowd, Wish saw someone waving at her. It was Chris which made her sigh a relief. Maybe he would know where Lucas was. She excused herself and signalled Chris to follow her secretly.

They arrived at the corridor where nobody was present.

" Wish....im really shocked right now." Chris said touching his head, " Wasnt Julie dead? how is she walking around??"

She hushed at him aggressively looking around, " Lower your voice. And how would i know??"

" No....this is weird, i tell you."

Wish rolled her eyes, grabbing his arms, " Do you know where Lucas is??"

Chris stopped mumbling and shook his head, " ...wait, you really called him here? he wont be allowed no matter what connections you bring! This is super private party."

" Whats so important about this party??" she said irritated. Up till now nothing that important had happened.

" You really have no idea do you?"

Wish gave a confused face. Brent hadnt mentioned about anything of this party. The only thing she knew was that it was allowed for only elite family. What was it really about?

Outside the venue's gates, Lucas stopped a cab and both of them got inside, panting hard. He finally let Lisa's hands go. She had no idea where they were headed to but she didnt care at this moment. Lisa only wanted to get some fresh air away from the suffocating place she belonged.

When they got out of the cab, they were standing infront of a crowded marketplace. The whole area was lit up with different coloured lights. The whole place had early Christmas decorations. Lisa was awed by the view in front. She had never came to a crowded marketplace like this but it was such a cheerful environment.

" Hope you dont feel uncomfortable..." Lucas scratched the back of his head. He didnt know what kinds of places Lisa went. He just chose one of his favourite hangout places.

" I dont! I love it..." she genuinely said. Lucas became relieved with her answer. They walked ahead side by side.

A lot of people had come here for shopping and some dined outdoor. They were all having good time, laughing and talking. Lisa was worried people might judge her because if her gown but surprisingly, no one even took notice of her. She was intrigued.

" Wanna try one of those?" he pointed to a street vendor selling some foods. She hated eating outside but today was an exception. " Sure!" when she took a bite of it, it blew her. Street foods were supposed to be this delicious?? " These are so gooood!" she took a big bite. Lucas chuckled seeing her reaction, " Yes, they are my favourite."

They strolled along the streets, looking around the shops and vendors. Everything was so festive here even though it wasnt a special day. They also watched busking performances. Lisa was having the time of her life.

Finally after a few hours, they arrived at a park. Both of them sat on the swings, tired from walking too much. " Did you enjoy?"

" Of course, it was my first time on a marketplace. It was nothing like any experience i had before." her eyes lit up as she spoke genuinely about the night.

Lucas was listening to her intently. He had never looked at her properly until now....he noticed her slim jawline and a small dimple. Just like Wish, her hair was jet black and silky hanging loosely by the sides of her face. Wish had plump lips but Lisa's were smaller and round. He could see some similarities with them, they were sisters after all.

" Right??!" she suddenly turned to him excitedly, unknown about his stares. " Y-yeahh...haha" he quickly faced front, realising his thoughts. What the hell was he even thinking about? She was way young for him.

Lisa's phone started ringing, echoing in the empty park. Seeing the caller id, her face dropped. as expected it was her mother and this was almost the hundreth time she had called. Lisa cut the call, annoyed. She was gonna be free even it was just for today.

" Umm....how about you go back to the golden party?" Lucas asked concerned for her. He had noticed the call.

" No, i cant. i cant breath in that place." Lisa's voice was low. It was better to get some scoldings and being grounded than to step in that hellhole.

" Isnt the party really important?"

Talking about party, she suddenly remembered something. Julia Wilson! She was supposed to make an entry there right?

" Oh no!" she cried making Lucas jump. " Wh-whats the matter?"

" It's sister's rival!" she said out of nowhere. Lucas went through her words with confusion and curiousity.

"Rival?"
