The roaring engines drowned out the sound of friendly planes bombing enemy positions. The men looked at the horizon as the explosions dimly lit the sky.
"In and out. Let's make things quick and simple." Hilbert states.
"Their ammo depot is right up against a wall, blow that up and we did more than what we were asked to do." Jeremy added.
"I don't want anyone making too much noise, you shoot and make sure that you kill. The outcome of our attack will decide if we win or not." Hilbert ordered as he wore a black mask.
"If we're in a squad with Hilbert, does that make us some sort of all around death squad?" A soldier quietly asked.
"I think it affects the entire battalion, not just our squad." Another soldier muttered in response.
Their line of vehicles inched closer to the enemy fort. They have become a poisoned dagger, dealing only small cuts which slowly spreads the poison. Infecting the enemy and slowly rendering them useless. Despite only being a small battalion of troops, the 116th has proven to be deadly and relentless when it comes to battle. Partnered with the behemoths of the 18th armored cavalry and the beast of the super soldier program, they will now prove to be a great foe for any that comes their way.
"We're nearing the fort, tell everyone to spread out." Jacques orders the radioman.
"Attention all units, spread out. All radios switch to line 3 upon arriving at the rally, maintain radio silence till then." The radioman informs the others.
"Just a click away, let's wish that we don't run into a minefield on the way there." Jacques mutters to himself as he looked at the distance with his binoculars.
"Sir, how are we supposed to slip an entire truck of men through their line of sight?" Edward asks.
"We divert their attention and attack from a different angle. Once Hilbert's squad takes out the ammo depot and blast the wall, we will split up and begin the siege." Jacques replied as he sat back down.
"Only the tanks will be able to fire back, so that means we'll be splitting up with the 18th." Edward added before glancing at the others inside the truck.
They were confident, it was just like Operation Hummingbird. They did it back then so it means that they can do it again. They learned from Hummingbird and they know what to do, this time they plan to not have a single casualty.
"What's our quota for today boss?" Timothy asks as he looks through the scope.
"We'll be restocking ammunition after this operation so feel free to dump all our HE rounds at the enemy." Roger replied.
"Copy that, loading HE." James says as he loaded the breach of the gun.
"I want to see fire superiority, light the sky up with your guns. Don't stop for anything, you'll only stop when you're out of ammo or if your guns overheats." Roger orders over the radio.
Their convoy arrived at the rally point and the forth was as bright as a city with busy streets. Their target was now painted bright for them to shoot at, as the tanks went to their positions, Jacques and his unit peeled off and headed east to flank the enemy. The order was given and the deafening blows of each tank's cannon filled the air and soon the fort's walls shook. The enemies panicked and tried to organize their main batteries to shoot at the attacking tanks.
"Hilbert, now!" Jacques shouted over the radio.
"Punch it! Don't stop until we reach the wall!" Hilbert ordered to the driver.
"Brace for it boys, we might not get a soft landing!" Jeremy exclaimed as he tucked his torso close to his legs.
Their truck drove as fast as the engine could go, unseen by the enemy soldiers who were caught up in returning artillery fire on Roger's unit. The truck's front wheels almost floating off the ground every time they drive over a mound, the men behind holding onto whatever they can to stay in their seats. Over to their right were filled with streaking lights from the tracers, similar to shooting stars in the night sky. It was a mesmerizing sight if you ignored the rattling of gunfire and the loud blasts of cannons.
"I don't think the brakes will slow us down on time! Dismount!" The driver shouted as he jumped out of the truck.
"Everyone off the truck!" Hilbert shouted as he jumped off followed by the others rushing behind him.
They rolled around on the sand as their truck plowed into the large wall. Hilbert immediate got up and dragged the nearest soldier towards the wall and waved to the others to follow them. Jeremy looked for his gun before regrouping with the rest of their squad.
"Shoot the grapple up the wall. I want everyone to climb up one by one once it's secured." Hilbert quietly ordered.
"Let's go, set it up. The rest of you hold on to the rope." Jeremy added before grabbing the small mortar tube.
They loaded the grappling hook and shot it up the wall, once secured, they scaled up one by one. Once inside, they made their way to the armory which was filled with enemy soldiers coming in and out to take weapons and ammunition.
"Stay close and watch the hand signals." Hilbert whispered to the others before moving behind a large crate.
"Stay low boys, let's go." Jeremy ordered before following behind Hilbert.
Once the majority of the enemy soldiers left, Hilbert rushed the armory doors and shot the soldier standing guard. The others followed behind and they quietly took out every soldier they ran into while going deeper into the armory.
"Phil, stay here and watch the door. Everyone else will plant the thermite." Hilbert ordered as he cleared the ammo depot.
"Let's blow this place and get the hell out." Jeremy added as he took out the explosives from his backpack.
They placed thermite explosives all over the place and dynamite in the middle of the room. Hooked up into a wire, they ran back out the armory and looked for cover as they set up the detonator.
"It's all yours, corporal." Hilbert states before handing Jeremy the detonator.
"Boom." Jeremy mumbled as he twisted the knob.
