Chapter 63 - Leeches 3

Jak remained in the city with Yuki. Most of the time he was on guard duty when he was not asleep. It sounded like he was anxious, but he guarded himself from anyone by wrapping himself in the Ghost Suit even when he was sleeping.

Morning. Jakob got out of his bunk. Outside of the airship was the communication hub. Above the city were the airships coming to the city. Each these airships carried supplies and drills that could dig into the ground. Half a mile from the city was where these supplies were located. A mobile base was planted next to the city that has been keeping a curtain wall. With the use of that mobile base every critter that moves below and above are gunned down by the precise shot of the mobile base.

Jakob had not heard from the city of Aured. All he heard from Helga and Olga was that most of Aured City was moving in to make the path to this city possible. They have designated Greensea as an important place. Reasons that there is an important body of water that can be used for research. Not to mention that whatever data they found in the databanks and the satellite images are going to be useful in taking down the belua threat.

A world without belua was the dream of the Outriders. Recon Korps had strived to defeat them, but even their best was not enough to defeat the mutated creatures. The worst part is that instead of joining they hands, they turned against one another and forced the last technological bastion of the world into a disastrous civil war.

In this world the Ghosts of Haven took them all. The Decker's Cult were killed. Dion Bismark was removed before he could incite a threat. The under-city was purged from the Skinners. And the biggest surprise was the discovery of the people of the world. The ones who survived the End of Mankind's Age.

On Jak's hand was a newspaper that came from one of the prints here. The newspaper detailed the arrival of the other survivors of mankind. Even Jak could tell that from the mood of the people around him. There was hope blooming to them that maybe there are big things happenings. The world was going to change and maybe it won't take long before the beluas are taken care off.

"That's a far dream," Jak thought to himself. The beluas are a threat because they knew how to adapt. In this timeline they are threatened by mankind and it was fair. How long will this fairness last? Jak wanted to ask this question. This was all like a dream to him. A dream where not everything was down the drain. Jak wasn't arrogant enough to claim, but he was at least sure that somewhere along the line. He had made a series of chain reaction that led the world to this. The world saw the opportunity and the world grabbed it firmly.

He lets go of the newspaper. Jak walks to the pier where he started dazing off when he was not on duty. The curious children that would climb the surface to fish on the green sea was still around. Spear fishing was rather popular to the kids and since he was ignorant of sea fishes. He had to learn from the children on how to cook the fishes he got from chucking the spears for them.

Once in a while he would take what he earned from spear fishing. Take them to the airship where he grilled the transparent fishes into a crispy and juicy meal. After he was done eating fishes that came from the green sea. He would go out of the city alongside Yuki to hunt down creatures that were different from the usual belua. They were mutated animals that evolved because of the End. There are traces of belua all over the land, but they were little compared to the muties they found. Unlike the belua however, they were not resistant to the bullets and armaments created by Aured City, making them easy targets the moment the troops that came with the mobile base stated a perimeter sweep.

Cadavers were taken by the troops and were going to be put under study. It wasn't only the troops that recently arrived in the Greensea City. Outriders arrived a day ago carrying their enthusiasm at the new land before them. The Outriders were mostly Sanctum-approved and from their performance. He was sure that some of them were betting on being part of the Recon Korps once they reached a certain pay grade.

Though they did not bring their arrogance once the presence of a Ghost was announced. Jak had met some of the Ghosts sent by heaven. Ghosts who were armed with the ether-forged weapons. Most of the weapons have killer switches that once the Ghost is dead, the weapon itself would proceed to activate the blasting fuse, destroying the weapon, preventing it from being reverse engineered. Only the vibrant blade that Jak was holding that didn't have any fuse blast since Jak made sure to craft the first weapon uniquely. Jak suspects that Helga knows he was holding in giving whatever Jak had. The vibrant blade was also different in a way that it was the refined version of whatever the Ghosts were holding. Jak didn't have to worry about the Ghosts as long as he works in the best interest of Haven. Not to mention that with how the world he knew was expanding in this timeline. Jak didn't want to lose the backing of Haven.

Jak moved a bit after being hit by the salty wind. He turned around. The sunlight coming from the corner of the horizon painting his Ghost Suit. This much sunlight was odd for the people of Aured City. The wetlands didn't have this much sunlight that it made people from Aured rather daze. Nonetheless, most of the people that came into this city were leeches, hoping that they could suck on the fresh blood of this city.
