Wang Yuan stood at the side of the room silently, unspeaking.
He hadn't spoken at all for years now, and it always filled his chest with a bright, fuzzy warmth when his brother still picked him up and held him, still communicating how much he loved his baby brother, even as he never got a reply back.
He watched Ming Cheng sit as still as he could, not at all reacting as his brother's boss did a basic check up on his friend and found nothing.
If his brother was to be believed, then the short, little scraggly man already knew what was wrong with Ming Cheng and was only doing his tests to calm down Lan Chang, even as she kept interrupting and shouting at the doctor.
Wang Yuan was reasonably sure that Ming Cheng wasn't going to end up like any of the frogs that they used, but he wasn't exactly completely confident of it.
After all, if Ming Cheng's condition arose out of his previous living circumstances, then it wouldn't be too hard for the doctor to just get another boy to do his experiments on, leaving Ming Cheng alone.
Wang Yuan liked Ming Cheng.
He was serious and hardworking, and kept to himself all the time. He wasn't overly loud and exuberant like A-Tao, even if A-Tao made him laugh a lot, and he wasn't uncannily perceptive and a mind reader like -Qing.
She shut down their fun way too soon all the time and was too overprotective sometimes.
He just didn't talk at all.
He wasn't helpless, but she was the only one, other than his brother, who could understand him no matter what and she always kept them out of too much trouble, taking punishments with them even when she didn't have to.
Ming Cheng was a bit like him, Wang Yuan had to decide on.
He had grown up somewhere hard and he had developed to react to certain situations, and he was still reacting even when those circumstances were gone.
His mind was just a little confused, considering there was no more danger everywhere he had once seen it over and over again.
It would be hard, but Wang Yuan was sure that Ming Cheng would be completely fine.
He could see how his friend kept looking over at the window, probably wanting to leave the room as quickly as he could and go back to being with Lan Chang alone.
Never mind, even if the Physician could do nothing here and now, then Wang Yuan was certainly able to help Ming Cheng anyway.
It paid good to be so quiet and forgotten about because of it.
Easy and as quick as lightning, Wang Yuan made his way over to the scroll set of common ailments that the Physician kept in his office, finding his way over to the section for the soldiers' ailments, and pulled out the appropriate information.
And just as fast as before, he shoved the paper under his shirt, the wooden handles of the roll uncomfortably cold against his skin, and scurried back to stand near the door.
