Freedom of our future. Its laughable to even think about now. None of us have a choice. They were all to greedy for knowledge. they didn't need it, we didn't need it.
~
The crunch of the snow makes heads turn in my direction as I hurry down the concrete path. The eyes of hungry children, ranging from infants to teenagers in age, glare me down. Some bundled up into worn out blankets, and others trembling in the cold. My hear aches out to them, but there's nothing I can do. They wont let me.
The piece of software, causing all this devastation, was created by a young scientist. Jase Anderson. Some called him a genius, by seventeen, he had created something thought to be impossible to mankind. Some called him a mad man, after all, it now had plunged our world into deep despair, rewriting the way our society functions. It's been three years since it came into this world. Called 'The Pandora's Box'. For one reason and one reason only.
Prediction.
Of all that would happen in your life.. was strange things that the software could grasp onto. Jobs, family, death. Things got worse when rumors started to arise. People, children, finally wanting to know their future, just to be tested as a future murderer, unemployed, homeless. It turned out to be true. I know that, because it was my sister who started the whispers in town.
About a two years ago, a year after the software was released to the public, my sister and I were brought to be tested. It wasn't mandatory, but my curiosity had peaked. I was the one who made her get tested.
Elliot. She came with me.

We had just entered the hospital. I weave my way through the crowd towards the testing facility, trailing behind Elliot. I can feel my fingers picking at my cuticles mindlessly, hands peeled sore from the nervousness. Breathing in the stale air of the facility, I turn towards Elliot, who is brushing her wavy brown hair away from her face, revealing dark green eyes, glistening in the glare of the hospital light. She wipes her palms, which I now notice are sweaty, on her baggy jeans, which are a paired with a loose-fitting, wrinkled blouse.
"Kia. Look at me. It's going to be okay? No matter what our results are, we are still gonna here. I'm going to be here." her gentle voice soothes me and I feel her soft skin pulling my hands away from each other, and she interlocked her hands in mine. Trying to manage a wry smile, the buzzing feeling of excitement replaced with a sense of dread, I open my mouth, about to speak when something interrupts me. "Elliot Baker." a robotic voice echos throughout the empty waiting room. "This is going to change everything." i whispered into her ear.
"I know. I'm.. I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what? Elliot, what are you talking about? You have nothing to be sorry about."
She squeezed my hand, sending a pulse of warmth throughout me before she pulls her fingers away from mine, walking towards the testing room. "Ellie!" I exclaimed, but I knew there is no use asking her why.
My body was filled with worry I felt my hands start to tense up again, my skin grow pale and my palms get clammy. What was she sorry for? Was taking this test a ruinous idea? But at that point I couldn't back out now. I want to know. Her head turned back one more time and she gave a small smile, dissipating some of my worries. The click of the door shutting rings in my head.
Some time passed, I don't know how long, until my name was called. My footsteps seemingly sounded lower with every step. Like something counting down to the result of my whole entire future.
