"Y/N! Breakfasts ready!!"
"Coming mum!!" I replied while combing my (Y/H/L) (Y/H/C) hair. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time and smiled. 'Perfect' I thought. I raced down the stairs with a smile on my face and felt like nothing could go wrong.
"Oh darling you look beautiful!!" My mother gasped. "Thanks mom, but honestly—" I was cut off by my mum rushing to me and engulfing me in a warm hug. "Oh my little baby girl is all grown up!" She said tearfully. My voice was muffled in her embrace so my words of protest sounded a bit like, "mum—gerroff meh!!" She released me from her embrace and replied, " sorry dear it's just—" and cue hugging. I honestly didn't know what to do, I mean what would you do if your mum came hugging you with tears in her eyes?! "Mum," I said softly as I patted her back, "that's great and all but can I eat now?" She gave a soft chuckle, "of course dear, breakfasts on the table, I made your favorite"
"Thanks mom." I said walking towards the kitchen table, but stopped half way. I turned around with a questioning look. " hey mom, where's dad?" She looked at me with a sympathizing look, " I'm sorry dear, you father really wanted to be here for your birthday, but the office didn't allow him to take a leave."
"Oh, that's alright mom," I said though a bit disappointed, " when will he be back?"
"I'm sorry Y/N, he'll be here by 8"
"Oh that's alright, at least I have you!" I said with a small smile. I was very lucky just to have one of my parents with me today. my mum is a famous surgeon and my dad is widely known engineer so it's very hard for them so stay at home with me.
I sat down at the table and began to eat my meal. 'Mmm' my mum sure knows how to cook.
She sat down next to me and said, "Y/N,"
"Yeah mom?" I asked not fully paying attention.
"today is your 11th birthday and as a treat me and your dad agreed to take you to the book corner to get anything you want."
My eyes lit up with joy. The book corner? That was the most expensive book shop in all of London!! My heart swelled with joy, " thank you thank you thank you!!" I squealed as I a hugged my mum. She laughed and said, " only the best for my little girl."
"Mom," I whined, " I'm 11 years old now, I'm not a baby."
"I know dear," she said with a sad smile, " but you will always be my little girl"
I rolled my eyes and said, " whatever you say mom"
"Y/N go get your coat from your room, so we can go straight away."
"Sure mom." I raced up the stairs to grab my coat from my room; when I got there the door bell rang.
"I'll get it!! I yelled and rushed down stairs with my coat. When I got to the door i panted, phew what a work out! I opened the door and looked up to see a middle aged woman wearing the type of outfit you would see in a wizarding movie. I wanted to say, 'who are you?' But I think that would come of a little mean. I was taken by surprise, I just stood there. Staring at her. It's a bit embarrassing come to think of it.
My mom came to the door and asked, "yes?"
The lady then replied, " you must be Mrs (Y/L/N)," and then looked down at me, " and Y/N."
My mum then replied, " yes that's me, can I help you with anything?"
"On the contrary, yes you can." The lady continued, "my name is Minevra Mcgonagall and I am a teacher in hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry; and your daughter has been accepted into our school."
I looked up at my mother and she looked a bit shocked and taken aback. She pursed the lips and said, "why don't you come in."
The professor came into our house and was lead by my mother into the living room. I followed still a bit stunned but much more braver than I was before. All three of us sat down and when we were comfortable, the strange professor broke the silence. " you see, your daughter has been accepted in to our school of witchcraft and wizardry." My mum had a comical look on her face, " you mean she had been taken on for a scholarship? I don't think we ever placed her for one."
"Not a scholarship. But something like that. You see, your daughter has a magical capability In which got her accepted into our school of wizardry and witchcraft."
"So you mean my daughter has magical powers?"
"Not powers per say but a magical gift in which we need to preserve and grow."
My mother took some time to take this in, and so did I. Honestly, me, a witch?!
"Is this a joke?" My mother said angrily, pursing her lips.
"Not at all Mrs (Y/L/N), magic, does indeed, exist."
My eyes went wide at this statement, magic?!
Without thinking I broke the silence in the room and blurted our, " can you really do magic?!"
The lady stared at me and smiled, "indeed miss (Y/L/N)," she pulled out a long, thin stick from inside her robes and gave it a flick, which transformed the glass vase into a golden goblet.
My eyes went as wide as saucers, I looked at my mum, gaping. My mum looked dumbfounded and shocked.
The lady then explained to my mum all about this school called hogwarts and magic and about this place called diagon alley, where I could get all my materials needed for this magic school.
"You will find all the details of the school in this letter," she handed the envelope to my mother and continued, " there enclosed is also a train ticket for the train to hogwarts, I hope to see you in school miss (Y/L/N)" she said now looking directly at me.
I answered her with a smile, "of course professor."
She looked at me then my mother and said, "good day, and happy birthday miss (Y/L/N)," And disappeared into thin air.
My mum still shocked, was frozen in one position. I looked at her with a pleading expression, " can I please go mum? Pretty please?" She looked at me and smiled, " of course you can my little girl."
I broke into a wide grin, "thank you mum, thank you!!"
"We will have to go and buy your materials now, your new school starts very soon."
I embraced her one last time, my thoughts swimming around in my head.
I was actually going to be a witch.
