The prince lay awake the whole night. He had told Xue that they should reserve the rest of the talk the following morning. They needed to rest. It had been a long day.
He stared at the ceiling. He knew that he wasn't going to fall asleep. It was like he was only waiting for the sun to rise. The princess—no. It's Xue, he reminded his brain. Xue slept with her back to him. From the sofa he watched as her form slowly rose up and down until he was sure that she was already sleeping.
What was he supposed to do? he asked himself. There were only a handful of moments wherein he did not know what to do with his life. It was one of those moments. How was he supposed to decide on this?
He tossed and turned, thinking, having a conversation with his own consciousness. He decided that he would act on this on what he felt like the right thing to do. And right now, the right thing to do was put behind bars whoever it was that tried to kill Xue.
