Chapter 1 - Alpha ¬ Chapter 1

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word demon?

Red-skinned behemoths that kill indiscriminately? Small bat-like pigs that hold pitchforks? Or perhaps Satan, the horned devil and the enemy of God and his worshippers?

Whatever tickles your fantasy, demons have always been known as malicious creatures from Hell, the abode of the damned.

But what if I said there was a world where humans and demons alike advocated for peace among both races? Would you believe me?

That world does exist. We will call this world Aurus.

There were two Emperors that ruled over both humans and demons. The human emperor was named Ferdinand and the demon emperor was named Vile.

Vile was slaughtered and butchered by a twisted cult of radicals and separatists that sought to split the relationship that both empires had built. Much of the blame was put on Ferdinand, the human emperor, as many of his council members and personal friends were revealed to be apart of the cult.

Now by no means are demons inherently evil. In whatever category they fall in our false sense of "good" and "evil", not all demons are murderers. Their constant oppression from humans and "good" Gods forced them to become monsters.

If you were born as a demon, would you still exterminate demons? Or would you save both races from destroying themselves?

How convenient! One such demon has just been born. It looks like time is up!

"Where am I?" I thought to myself. I was in a confined space and could hardly move my limbs. I barely moved my right arm and tried to grasp anything in my surroundings. After attempting unsuccessfully to grab anything, I slowly tried to open my eyes only to find darkness.

There was a small red tinge to my surroundings, but I couldn't see anything apart from that. "Am I in a woman's womb?"

"Sustento propellentibus!" I heard a deep muffled voice reverb from this space. "I guess that answers my question."

"Azza, et infantem venturus est!" I heard a female voice rumble through the womb I resided in.

"And I'm guessing that's my supposed mother," I thought to myself. I calmly searched through my memories, trying to figure out how on Earth I managed to end up in another woman's womb.

I searched for no reason because I couldn't remember anything other than waking up in the morning. Everything after brushing my teeth is blank.

The language my parents talk to each other with sounds awfully like Latin. I've heard enough Latin from my annoying know-it-all younger sister. My sister and I took an IQ test when we were children and we found out my sister had one of the highest IQ in the world. I didn't bother to take the test because I've always been too lazy to do much of anything.

My sister learned a multitude of languages from foreign exchange students and textbooks like Mandarin, Spanish, Russian, and of course, Latin.

I was never able to graduate school because I always came to class at 11 AM. I never realized the consequences of my life choices until I became an adult. My parents couldn't wait to kick me out of the house since I didn't contribute anything to the household. I was forced on the streets and had to pick up my life piece by piece, eventually becoming a voice actor for an obscure film studio.

Working my way up from rags taught me that good things never come easy and that I should strive to become something bigger than just a mere voice actor. I never realized this truth until my sister become a distinguished brain surgeon. She bought two plots of land next to our parent's house and built them an entirely new house.

I shouldn't hate myself because of my regrets, but I can't help it.

(<> < These will be used when others use Latin to speak)

I slowly felt myself being pushed upwards towards an opening above my head. I felt ice-cold air flush past my face.

"W-wait, I don't want to be born yet, it's too cold outside!" I failed to tell my parents before I was born that it was way too cold. All that came out of my miniature mouth was the first cries of a newborn child.

I felt my head push past the womb I was residing in and travel up through the opening. I could finally see the light through my closed eyes and felt myself being wrapped in a rough, itchy fur blanket.

I heard a deep, trembling voice above me as warm drops of water fell across my face. I struggled to open my eyes. Determined to see the faces of my parents, I painstakingly open my eyes and my vision is immediately blurry.

I heard a hint of worry and apprehensiveness in the man's voice.

I blink repeatedly to get used to the feeling of opening and closing my eyelids again as my vision slowly started to focus on a bearded man in front of me. I opened my eyelids once again to see a man with pale white skin and hair.

"Haha, he looks like an albino," I amused myself. I heard myself giggle and gurgle a little bit when I saw my father's face. From what I could guess he was saying previously, Helena refers to the woman sitting on that bed there. I turned my head to face my supposed mother, Helena, as she sat on a bloodied blue sheet, sweating and smiling at me.

Her skin was dark, almost navy blue in colour. Physically, she was the exact opposite of the man holding me.

I saw her smile fade as it was replaced with a frown. She slowly furrowed her eyes as she stared above me, at the man named Azza.

I turned to look at Azza and also saw him furrowing his eyebrows. Azza looked like he wanted to punch Helena as I felt his fists clench beneath me.

Azza's voice slowly started to rise as he said that. I sat in his arms surveying his face. He looked angry and it almost looked like he would drop me at any second.

I turned to look at my mother and saw her looking down, tears falling from her face. I felt Azza move and approached Helena."He doesn't look anything like me, Helena. I love you, but I don't know if I should believe you or not."He said as he handed me over to my mom.

I felt a new pair of arms support my head and felt thin, soft arms receiving me. I turned to look back at Azza and saw him turn his back.

"You're not leaving, are you?" I thought to myself. I felt multiple warm drops of water and looked back at my mom crying profusely on my face.

Azza continued walking across the room and opened a door on the right side of this shack. Azza slammed the door which shook the house on his way out.

I weakly held my arm out towards my mom and tried to wipe her tears, but I suddenly felt immense fatigue wash over my entire body.
