"This conversation does not leave this table." I said to them.
The four of us sat down at a table in the Junes food court.
"Technically speaking I'm not allowed to talk about it, my therapist, Dojima, and my parole officer advise against it." I said.
"Parole officer? Oh god, what did you do?" Chie asked
"Nothing, I got screwed over by the courts and sent to juvie for two years. I didn't even get to attend my parent's funeral." I said.
Flashback, two years ago.
My siblings and I were contracted by a government agency, to investigate a shady company called SOL Technologies. Rumours had surfaced that they were involved in a mass kidnapping 11 years ago, and they wanted us to find evidence.
The thing was, that the evidence was kept on their computer files, highly encrypted and protected, and it was almost impossible for us to hack into, so I had to break in and implant a virus into their servers manually.
Fortunately I was an expert at such jobs, and it wasn't the first one I had pulled for the agency. That was part of our deal, we'd pull jobs, and get off clean, with a pretty big pay check, we were basically set for life. The only catch was that we couldn't get caught, or else they'd chuck us under the bus.
"So that's what happened then, you got caught right?" Yosuke asked
"Nope, it was a matter of unfortunate circumstances." I said.
Getting inside was easy, it was during the launch night of their new product, finding the servers was another problem entirely.
"Gladiator, I've located server room, there's a ventilation shaft from the men's room on the fourth floor that will lead you right to it." Ghost Girl said
"Great, I'm gonna need a distraction to get upstairs." I said.
"I'm on it." Blood Shepherd said
We were one heck of a team. Ghost Girl managed surveillance, and the infiltration and escape routes, Blood Shepherd focused on distractions, and I did all the hands on work. It was supposed to go off without a hitch. For the most part it did.
I finally made my way to the server room.
"You've got maybe five minutes before another guard comes around on patrol." Blood Shepherd said.
Once I got to the right spot, I plugged in the USB and let it do it's work.
"It's done, but there's a problem, your exit's on the far side of the room, past two armed guards." Emma said
"Is there anything I can climb or run on in here?" I asked.
"You won't have to." Blood Shepherd said.
A drone flew overhead, creating this whistling noise that drew the guards attention.
I sprinted over to the exit.
"Really? The garbage disposal?" I asked as I climbed into it. "Please tell me I'm gonna have a soft landing."
"Already taken care of, now go!" Ghost Girl said.
I managed to land on a mattress, that was cushioned by several inflatables. All of bro's drones made it out too.
"Whoo! Nice job guys." I said as I jumped off.
"Don't celebrate just yet you still need to get away from the building." Blood Shepherd said
"I'm already- whoa." I said as I spotted an unconscious woman. At least I hope she's unconscious, and not, you know, dead. I hurried over and checked her pulse. She's ok, but she's been beaten badly.
"Leave her and go! You've got incoming!" Blood Shepherd said
I heard sirens go off. A bunch of cops surrounded me.
"Hands in the air!" One of them said
"I'm just checking to see if-"
"I SAID PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE FUCKING AIR!" He said.
Long story short, I got arrested for assaulting a woman. I figured in court that the agency would pay off the judge since I was running a job for them, turns out, they made a deal with SOL technologies.
They'd keep the kidnappings quiet, and SOL technologies would provide them with the new stuff they were developing.
I found out that my parents were murdered earlier that night, and that the woman was a witness. The prosecution's justification was that I beat her in a blind rage for not giving me the identity of the killer, due to my, bad temper. The worse part, was that she was beaten so badly that it gave her amnesia, so no one could get an answer out of her.
"But that doesn't make any sense, there was no real evidence to prove that you did it." Yosuke said
"It didn't matter. Hell, they even tried to force me to sign a confession, we managed to get video feed of the interrogation, but not before they broke my leg. I didn't even get compensation, the only thing I got was protection inside the Juvie Hall. Prosecution has a 98% chance of success rate in Japan. Meaning that even if the defendant is innocent, they'll still be punished by the law." I said
"Dude, that's messed up." Yosuke said
"No kidding that's horrible!" Chie said
"Yeah. The whole situation gets worse with the Moron. It doesn't take much to set me off, especially when someone insults my family. You need to restrain me if he crosses the line." I said to Yu.
"I will do what I can." He said.
"So now what? All we've got for weapons are a golf club and a set of wrenches." Yosuke said
"We go in and investigate, but we exercise the utmost caution." I said
They all nodded in agreement.
