In the end Jerry did stay true to his word. Them bring able to make it to school just in the nick of time. When second hour rolls around the students are called outside to board the bus. Everyone eagerly chats away as the pair just reaches the parking lot. There's many students she doesn't recognize that's definitely not apart of their class.
"Hi, Raylen," Sonny greets, as the shorter female approaches them.
"Good afternoon, Sonny, Hira." Today she has on a dark pink sleeves shirt with capris that has colorful flowers decorating them. Her silver hair is in two braids with small matching ribbons at the end compared to her usual big ones. There are a few bracalets on her wrist, though one standing out amongst the others.
"That's the friendship bracelet I gave you..."
"Yeah, I decided to wear it today. It looks like we're on the same page," she says, spotting the girl's own wrist.
"Hehe, seems that way."
"Hey, when did you get that now?"
"Huh?" Checking where Raylen is pointing at the band aid on her arm. Brooklynn's magic can heal most things, but minor injuries have to recover on there own. Such small scraps shouldn't catch much attention, however often as she gets them it's hard to overlook. They already lied to Kite a few days ago saying Sonny got hurt from falling off his skateboard.
"Oh, well, um, I just had a slip up in the kitchen again! I'm really not the best cook," she replies, hoping for her to buy the lie.
"I see. You should be more careful."
"Right, I'll try my best."
"Um, there is something else I wanted to ask you..." Raylen glancing at Sonny on his phone before pulling the burnette in close. "Well I know you went to the dance with Josef and all but...do you like Sonny?"
It doesn't take a genius to know what kind of 'like' she's referring to. Thrown off by her question she nearly shouts out that causing a few to stare, including the boy right next to them. Playing it off before huddling towards her friend once again. "Me like him? Don't be ridiculous! I have a crush on Josef, you know that."
"I see. I just thought..." So even Raylen has noticed her mixed emotions. Heck she couldn't even fool herself with this act.
"Actually to be honest...I'm not really sure where my feelings lie." A darn shame but the hard truth. She really is interested in Josef even after seeing the real him, but the way she felt with Sonny at the skating ring the other day. Who does she truly like now? Brooklynn should know the answer to such question, but her heart stings are in knots.
Does it really make a difference either way? Regardless if it does turn out to be Sonny tomorrow he'll be...
"I'm sure you will figure it out. Love can be a complicated thing so just give yourself some time."
"Yeah, you're right..."
The teachers call for them to board the bus the girls taking a seat next to each other. Brooklynn's suprised at who's suddenly sitting in the seat in front of them by Sonny. "What's up, Hira."
"Kite?" He's wearing long badge shorts with a white and light blue t-shirt that has some kind of logo and a matching cap. This confirms there's students joining that's not in their class. "I didn't know you'd be here."
"I'm in Ms. Queen's class which is also going on this field trip."
"Explains why I saw some many students not in our class." It will be more fun with both Raylen and Kite coming along. She wants to make as much memories as possible while they're all together.
"Yup, I've been looking foward to this. Hey, Raylen. I see you did your hair different today. It looks cute."
"T-Thanks, I just wanted to try something new..." she mumbles, avoiding eye contact with him. Not so much as negative action than her embarrassment. The mood is definitely different between them now since the dance.
"I can practically feel the love in the air," Sonny says dramatically, them both shooting him a flustered look.
"Attention everyone, we're leaving now! It's an hour ride and if any of you goof off we'll turn this bus around! Now we can take off as soon as some sit down properly. Kite, Sonny." Ms. Queen giving the boys a look as they both face foward. With everything set the vehicle drives down the road toward Camp Drive.
...
They talk during the bus ride until movement stops by large grassy field. There's adults out enjoying nature and the skies are perfectly sunny. The students start to exit the bus as a young dark skin male walks over to them. "You're with Langfield Academy, yes? Hello, I'm Reese a fellow worker here at Camp Drive, and I'll be your tour guide today. We're going to do a whole bunch of cool activities, and later on you can have some free time to yourselves. Firstly let's go up to the cabins so you don't have to carry that heavy luggage around with you."
They follow him up a path that leads them straight to the camp site. After settling in he explains top on their list is hiking. There's a small forest nearby for them to stroll through, and Raylen takes pictures of small critters that pass by. Reese sets up a scavenger hunt for them to complete. Told to search around for different insects and plants. Naturally questions about their findings are included, because what's a school field trip without some kind of learning. Working alongside the rest of her friends though, they all finish their assignment pretty quickly. The burnette more focused on avoiding confrontation by Josef after what he saw last night.
When done Reese takes them up to a large river that has a slight slope downwards. Several tiny boats are lined up along the edge, and she can already guess what their next task will be. "Now for our second acitivity you'll be going canoeing! You can grab a friend and take turns so that everyone will get a chance to ride once. Put these life savers on in case of an accident, and line up here when you've found a partner."
"I can't believe we really get to ride one. This will be our next race! First team at the bottom wins," she challenges.
"Alright you're on," Sonny replies, much too smug for her liking.
Brooklynn goes to ask Raylen to be partners, only to find the girl already paired up with Kite. She's happy for her friends and all, but her own love life isn't quite the best right now. Groaning she spots Josef who's being tugged between Nicole and Jennifer clearly irritated.
Why are they doing here? Must be students in Ms. Queen's class then. What a mood killer. I could ask Josef to but I wonder would he wanna ride with me? Considering what he witnessed yesterday it's so awkward now...
While struggling to make a decision the blonde now notices her. Wiggling free of their grasps as Nicole lets out a huff. "Come on, who are you riding with? Me or Jenny?"
"Hira."
"What?!'
"The two of you can ride together. Let's go."
"Wha, Josef?!" She doesn't get time to protest dragging the burnette along. Both girls hiss at her before stomping off towards the back of the line.
"I've never met girls with such persistent in my life," he grumbles. Not a good sign that he's already in a bad mood. Today Josef is wearing a short sleeve brown jacket with maroon jeans and hiking boots. Wavy blonde hair tied up like it was for the dance.
"Um, are you sure you don't mind?"
"I wouldn't asked you otherwise." He never excatly asked but sure.
Reese demonstrates to the first group on how to properly ride the small boat. After making sure everyone has the hang of it are given permission to start moving down the slope. As the two of them get situated Josef is the one to speak up. "Where'd you and Sonny go yesterday?"
"Oh! Uh, we just went skating for a little bit..."
"Really? With how late you both got back I assumed it more than that. Quite honestly from my perspective it kinda looked like the end of a date."
"D-Date! No, no, no we were only going out in the first place because he helped me in art class. I just wanted a way to thank him," she stampers, eyes glued to her lap. It's not like she's excatly lying but beating around the bush like this doesn't feel right either.
"If that's what you say." The blonde glancing over at the spoken male who is giving her a cocky smirk. Brooklynn's surprised to see him riding with that Kaleigh girl. It should be nice that they're friends and all, but something about the scene has her chest tighten. Maybe noticing their small exchange he raises an eyebrow. "What's with him now?"
"Well we were going to race down actually, though it can be a calm ride. No sense in dragging you into our silliness."
"A race then let's go."
"You wanna race?"
"I hate losing at anything. Especially against carrot top over there."
"I see..." When the ginger gives a thumbs up the two begin a countdown. Once they reach zero both start rowing at the same time. Unlike the other groups laughing as they go along two in particular are flying down the river. Reese runs along the side trying to wave them down. Unfortunately all his shouting falls on deaf ears.
"That's dangerous going so fast! Please slow down this isn't a race!"
If he only knew...
Despite their rowing her current rival still has the lead by an inch. "Kaleigh is really good at this. Man, I should've known."
"I'm speeding up so sit tight," Josef declares, giving them a boost. The canoe goes faster now being neck and neck. Josef did mention he's a bit of a sports player, so perhaps they still have a chance. However seconds before they can reach the bottom the other two just past them.
"Seriously we were so close," she mumbles.
Sonny letting out a loud laugh gives the girl a high-five. Other boats begin catching up with them shocked to see they rode so quickly. Just as she finishes sulking and stands up to leave, Raylen suddenly shouts out their names. "Hira, Josef, watch out!"
"Wha-ah!" Not having the time to see what she's referring to when a boat collides into theirs. The hard action causes her to lose balance, and falls down right on Josef in a way she never imagined possible.
"Ow, I would've did better if I wasn't controlling this stupid thing by myself!" Nicole spats, the blonde fanning her hands.
"I dropped the rod alright! I couldn't fish for it and my nails haven't finished drying." Jennifer's blabbing is drained out with the awkward position she's left in. Lips locked with the blonde haired male laying underneath her. It's not exactly the neatness considering she somehow fell into this, but they're kissing nonetheless. Too many emotions to sort fill her heart and brain at once. Josef's emerald eyes wide and staring right into her own.
Get up idiot!
Everyone gasps while watching them like it's a movie scene, as Sonny is petrified from the sight. Finally getting her body to cooperate pushes herself uptight. Words tumbling out of the girl's mouth like running water. "I'm so sorry! I can't even explain how that happened! I lost balance and then next thing I know I was on top of you! And just sorry!" Brooklynn's face burning as she peeks up when he hasn't said anything. Only to find his face just as red as hers right now.
"Um, it's fine, honestly," he mumbles, breaking eye contact. This is the first time she's ever saw him flustered.
"Hira actually kissed the prince! Talk about lucky," A girl exclaims.
"They kissed huh? Hahaha...." Sonny falls into a dream world sliding down the tree he's leant against. Kite grabbing him by his shirt trying to shake the boy out of it.
"Come on man, get ahold of yourself!"
"What have we done!" Nicole sobs alongside Jennifer shielding their vision from the pair. Of course the camp advisor gives the four a stern lecture on saftey rules that must be followed. Once the other groups take a turn they move on to their next activity.
After a while they have lunch then told the the rest of the time is for themselves. With all that's conspired she rather just be by herself right now. The wish is blown away as Kite jogs up, followed by Sonny dragging his feet, holding a frisbee by in the air. "Hey! We're going to play a game of this and we could use more people. Hira, Josef?"
He just had to ask them both but turning the offer down would make things more weird. Brooklynn simply agreeing to join in for one round only. They do a game of rock, paper, scissors to divide teams and she is working with Kite. Raylen and Kaleigh get paired off this bringing a little joy to see she isn't Sonny's partner again. To his misfortune is stuck together with Josef.
"The rules are simple. One serves and we toss this back and forth. If you miss or throw out of bounce that's a point against your team. First team with ten strikes is out and last team standing wins," Kite explains.
"Like a game of golf basically," Josef mumbles, and she knows any sports and her don't mix.
"Ready to win?" he encourages, but her face falls.
"Yeah, but I'm not too good with stuff like this. I'll probably screw us both over and I really wanted to see Sonny lose too."
"Did something to make you mad again I'm guessing? Well I'll make sure their team is the first one to go." The two exchange smiles as Josef is first to serve.
The game begins and like promised Kite does cover for her when she would've missed otherwise. It manages to keep the groups tied up all until it's her turn to serve. Just three strikes to execute a good throw or it's a point against your team. Brooklynn nervously takes the frisbee and readies her arm to throw it.
"Come on, Hira. You got this." Kite giving her a thumbs up of approval. He gave the girl a couple pointers so hopefully she can put them to good use.
Taking a breath she throws it with all her might. And to everyone's surprise the object lands a few inches from her feet. A silence stretches on until one ginger starts laughing away.
Why'd I even attempt to? I would've thought after all my fighting I'd be at least a little bit better at this!
"Sorry, that's our ball! Can you toss it back please?!" A boy asks, as a small ball hits her foot. The burnette picks it up and throws it Sonny's direction. The ball bouncing off his head making his laughing come to an abrupt stop.
"Why do you always have perfect aim when it comes to throwing objects at me?!"
"I can't help they're drawn to you."
"Let's start the game back up, shall we." Kaliegh says, setting it back in motion. No longer forcing turns to serve most likely out of pity for her. As the game continues Sonny and Josef begin fussing, which she's shocked peace lasted this long.
"If they keep that up we may just win this," Kite whispers. Though despite his optimism all three end up tied for the final stike to result in their elimination. Kaliegh serves the frisbee and he insist to leave things to him. However when the object is carried by the wind it flys past Kite's grasp towards herself. "You have to catch it! Just keep your eye on the frisbee!"
"O-Okay!" She watches it's movements though going at such a fast speed her hands completely miss. Instead the object coming in contact with her face. The hit has Brooklynn fall flat on her back as she can hear everyone running towards her.
"Brooke, are you okay?" Kite asks worriedly.
"Ow, I think so..." she mumbles, slowly sitting up.
"That-ah!" Both Josef and Sonny push him out the way each at the girl's side.
"Are you alright? Your nose is bleeding..." Sonny observes first, throwing her arm around his neck. The blonde does that same both pulling her to a stand. It does hurt a bit but not to the point she can't walk by herself.
Still the minute they realized I was hurt both came in the flash of a second. It's not right to play with their emotions like this but I'm so confused...
"Let's get you to the advisor," Josef says.
With that the game is officially brought to a close. Reese informs it's not broken and gives her an ice pack to use for a while. Kaleigh apologizes refusively but insists she'll be alright. After everyone clears out only Kite and Sonny are left remaining. "I'm sorry I accidentally let your name slip back there. I wasn't thinking."
"Oh, it's okay. Nobody seemed to notice anyways."
"Yeah, we're going on our final mission tomorrow. At this point it doesn't really matter." Sonny follows up, the blue haired male letting out a sigh of relief. Giving a wave as he takes off to go meet up with his girlfriend.
"Um, it doesn't look swollen. Are you sure you're okay?" Sonny asks.
"I'm just suprised you didn't find this hilarious. The way my feet kicked up in the air must've looked pretty funny." After all Sonny couldn't stop laughing at her earlier, though now there's clear remorse written on his face. She wasn't expecting him to take her so seriously. "Don't look like that. It doesn't hurt as much with the ice, honestly...Aren't you going to go catch up with Kaleigh or something?"
"No, I'll sit here a bit." Making himself more comfortable as they talk to pass the time. This might not have been how she pictured today going though it's still nice. Eventually removing the melted ice bag from her face.
"My nose feels much better now. Thanks for keeping me company. Actually there is one thing I want us to face off in before we have to go."
They stand at the end of a small dock putting bait on their fishing rods. This is her last opportunity to beat him in at least something today. "I'm surprised this is what you chose. I didn't take you to be the patient type for a fisher."
"How much you know. My Grandpa and me fish together all the time. Have you did this often?"
"A little here and there with my dad back then. So what are the rules?"
"Catch the most fish from this pond in the time limit and you win."
"Sounds simple enough. Let's do it." Using his watch they both try and catch many fish as possible before time runs out. When comparing their results the two are both tied with three fishes.
"Of course it would be a draw."
"Should we try again?" he asks.
"Let's make it easy. The next person to catch one wins. If we do so happenly at the same time, then the one with the bigger fish wins." They cast their lines again and after a good wait with no bite she finally feels a tug. Brooklynn immediately starts to wheel it in only to have a piece of trash pulled up. "Garbage, really! That's why people shouldn't litter."
Sonny also begins to wheel something in and a large fish comes flying out the small pond. "It's huge! How is something that size even in there?!"
"This is my best catch yet. Don't you agree, Brooke? I'm just fishing for success today." Brooklynn can't believe she even lost at fishing. What's with all this bad luck today? It's the exact opposite of her small win streak at the rink.
The ginger diggles the fish around in front of her bubbling up her irritation. "Oh, shut up!" Shoving him back a little too hard. The boy losing his balance and splashes backwards right inside the pond.
The burnette looks down at her outfit and hair now completely drenched. Shooting a sharp glare to the person at fault. "I can't believe you pulled me in when I was trying to help you!"
"It's not my fault you fell for the oldest trick in the book. And helping, you're the one who pushed me in!"
"By accident..."
"Just like that ball hit my head by mistake too."
"No, that was on purpose." The teens silently staring at each other for a moment before doubling over in laughter. Usually she would be mad but this time it's just funny really. They always manage to go back and forth sometimes. It might sound weird but the thought on not having petty arguments like these anymore makes her sad.
"The view from here looks nice," The ginger joining her side as they gaze at the sun setting in the distance.
"Yeah, it really does," she agrees, though her smile washes away in an instant.
This really will be our last sunset together. Stop! I can't start thinking about tomorrow now. It has to be frightening enough for him, and I don't want to put a damper on the mood...
Sonny's sudden sneeze snaps her out of thought, also making her notice the cold breeze that's picked up. "It's not good for us to stay in wet clothes like this. I'll ask Reese when we're heading back up. Huh...?"
Stopping dead in her tracks to see there is not a student in sight. Only now does she realize how quiet it's been. Sonny seeming to put the same thing together. "Did they already leave without us?"
"Yeah, I think so. I'm going to go check around real quick!" No matter how she looks at it they've definitely been left behind. The girl sighs walking back to the dock to inform the bad news. Instead letting out a yelp when she spots him wringing out his shirt over the pond. "W-What are you doing?!"
"Just getting some of the water out. You should try too, you know."
"Oh? So you can see me strip again, right?"
"Why do you keep bringing that up! Anyway, no point in standing around here then. We should just go up to the cabins ourselves," he suggests. Sonny putting his shirt back on before taking off with her running to catch up.
"Slow down shouldn't we wait here? We could get lost wandering on our own."
"It's pratically a straight shot from the trail. Besides the sun is setting and the detectives would kill us if we get sick when the last mission is tomorrow."
Brooklynn agrees he does have a point following behind as the two find the trail from earlier. Starting to head up they don't make it far when seeing someone she never expected flying overhead. "G-Gores!"
"Felixa and the traitor! Did you think I'd let you get off easy after killing my son?! I tried to be lenient with you until now though you've broken the final straw. We still need the girl but your own grave can be dug at this very spot!" He sneers at his nephew, throwing an ambush of attacks they struggle to dodge.
This is bad! We don't even have our weapons nor mask with us. He's so angry at Sonny he's focusing all his attention on him. Can things get any worse?!
"We have to transform and deal with quick! Before all this noise draws people down here!" Sonny rolling from another strike.
"Right, Duclea form!"
"There you kids are! Your friends saw you were missing so I came to look for-" Reese voice trailing off when seeing them both land on their feet. Standing utterly baffled at the scene before his eyes. "Your-you kids are the..." He faints and she flinches at the sound of his body hitting the ground.
And they just got worse.
"That's the camp advisor. Was he here looking for us?"
"He...handled this a little differently than Kite did. At least he'll be out the way now." Turning her attention back towards the threat.
As Gores throws another attack the burnette quickly puts up her light shield protecting them both. Glancing back at her partner hoping the boy has a plan in mind. "What do we do? We really need a way to take him down fast."
"I have an idea. I want you to combine your powers with mine."
"Like you had did with Finley?"
"Yes, we'll strike when there's an opening." Playing on the defense they wait until just the right moment to fire at once. A mix of dark and light throwing sends him tumbling across the dirt, though he's quick to recover.
"That wasn't enough!" Brooklynn knows he mentioned that Gores could've been holding back. Being so furious with what happened to Akira he's not going lightly on them now. Still Sonny has protected her lots of times, and she refuses for him to die here like this.
"...I will make you suffer for what you've done, but I'm not jeopardizing everything we worked so hard for to this point. We'll meet again at the last ruin." With that Gores takes off into the skies out of sight. She has no clue why he suddenly retreated but there's bigger issues to focus on at the moment. Like the unconscious male a few feet from them.
"Whatever the reason at least he's gone now, but what are we doing about him? He'll be too heavy for us to carry him up." Sonny asks, both changing back.
"I'll lift him myself," she insists. Using elastic to wrap Reese up and her telekinesis lifts the man easily. The two slowly making their way up to the cabin area.
A/N What will happen when Reese wakes up? Find out in the next update^^
