Chapter 1 - Howling Memories

Have you ever been so consumed by a secret that you end up telling the most unexpected person? I told the wrong person. I have less than 48hr of life because of it but people must know the truth.

Once there was a school on the outsides of Monaco. It was a good place. Most of the teenagers who attended that school were the offspring of powerful and rich people. It was the most exclusive boarding school in the country, the one that created future leaders,...or criminals as it turned out. Someone got killed and it was kept a secret while others tried to hide the truth. After a while, the school temporarily closed their doors because of a spider plague... but, mysteriously, they never reopened. The true story is only known by the three directors of the school, the rest of the known information was gossip with little truth to it.

La vérité always comes out, I'm writing this to make sure of it. My life is being threatened because of this accident that happened thirty years ago. If I'm going down so is the elite society of Monaco.

It was a Friday morning that started out normal, like nothing could go wrong when suddenly horrified screams penetrated our skin. The screams lasted an eternity and then stopped out of nowhere. I went rushing through the halls, yelling at students to go back to their rooms when I came across a multitude of teenagers outside a classroom. Everyone outside the classroom was sent to their rooms after I glimpsed at the inside of the room.

A rope, a chair, blood and a lifeless body lying on the cold ground. Five students with fear in their faces around the body.

Madison. The youngest member of the Savistory family was dead. Savistory was a name with power and privilege in Europe but their arrogance had gotten them in trouble several times.

Classes were canceled for the rest of the day and every student was sent home for the weekend, with the exception of five.

Jason, Marsella, Enzo, Carlota and Megan where held in my office the whole day. The other directors didn't have the guts to face the offspring of the most powerful families of Monaco, so I was left alone with them trying to figure out what happened.

The first four hours no one said a word, they just exchanged glares. Megan was the first to speak.

She stated the following. "I am..was...I don't know. She was my best friend. We were texting each other as always. She was angry about something that happened with Carlota but she never told my what it was. After that she stopped answering my texts so I went to find her."

All eyes turned to Carlota after that but for me, they all looked suspicious. They were all hiding something. One by one they started confessing why they were inside the classroom. And each time they spoke they pointed a finger to someone else which only made them more suspicious.

By the end of the day the five misfits where placed in the common room for the rest of the night. They were allowed to shower and change before going into the room that was supplied with a refrigerator and cabinets stocked with fresh food, two bathrooms, two bunk beds that where placed there for the night and a couch. They started waiting to see if anyone was going to interrupt them but since no one did, they confessed without knowing it. I spent the whole night watching the misfits through a camera on one of the ceiling corners. I regret it.

Enzo and Megan started talking in the kitchen but the conversation was inaudible due to the fight that was starting to emerge on the other side of the room. Marsella blamed Carlota of what happened claiming that she was the last to see Madison before she went inside the classroom. Carlota responded with "I swear I heard someone else inside with here. I would never hurt hear."

Jason: "Yeah, sure it's not like you always fought with her."

Carlota: "We always fought because she was a nasty brat but that doesn't mean I wanted to kill her."

Megan approached the fight with a "don't you dare talk bad about her", immediately after everyone else stopped talking and threw an annoyed look at Megan.

"Don't you see that the nemesis never does it?", said Enzo from the kitchen.

"We need to get our story straight before they start blaming us so stop fighting." exclaimed Megan. Everyone nodded and that's where the real story begins. It turns out that the five of them and Madison were in one of the classrooms by themselves trying to finish a school assignment. Megan and Madison talked through there cellphones while Marsella and Enzo worked with Jason and Carlota, when suddenly Carlota and Madison locked eyes and seconds after Madison stormed out of the room. Megan sent her a text message to see what had happened but Carlota followed Madison out of the room and confronted her about something. Carlota made a lot of emphasis on the fact that Madison went inside the room she was killed by herself but that she heard someone else inside. She claims they made a loud noise but she didn't describe it. The rest of the crew went running to where Carlota was yelling at her for leaving the room. Their yelling stopped when the sound of a glass window breaking and a drowning scream came roaring out the room. They all went rushing inside to see Madison hanging from the roof and a note on the blackboard.

"You killed her." was written with a red marker all over the board. Megan panicked and started yelling at everyone to erase the board and bring Madison to the ground. They didn't pay attention to her but when she started crying and they were owning to blame them, they all did as she pleased. A scream came from the hallway and everyone started to pile up outside, that's where the story we know starts.

Once they got their "story strait" they went to bed without noticing that Megan and Enzo left in the middle of the night to who knows where. Enzo came back 20 minutes after he left but Megan never went back and was discovered in shock on Monday morning inside the horse barn.

On Saturday morning I went inside the common room and persuaded them into telling me the truth and after a while I actually got it. What they said a night before was true and was confirmed with the hallway cameras but they all had a secret. Carlota's family was going into bankruptcy due to a misunderstanding with Melany's father, that's why they always fought. Marsella was going out with Jason in the shadows because they were afraid of what Melany would do to them. Jason was Melany's ex-boyfriend. But Enzo really out did himself with his secrete. Megan blackmailed Enzo's family so he was obligated to obey her. She made him write the message on the blackboard a day before the murder and she was going to make him confess to killing Melany but since she disappeared, he never did. Melany payed a professional to kill her best friend. After hearing all of their stories we agreed to keep quiet for our safety. I felt compassion for them, so innocent and so corrupted by their parents. Together we came up with a plan and left the school announcing the "spider infestation". I never knew why Megan killed her best friend nor what made her go into shock but none of it mattered because the case closed as suicide and the truth was buried with Melany. Until now.

A week ago, I got a letter with no signature. The author claimed to know the truth about that weekend and demanded for justice. They wrote what they did to Megan to make her go into shock and it truly is horrifying. They did it. They planned all of it. Megan was just a pawn in an even bigger game. Enzo was killed yesterday and the principal suspect is Jason. I haven't spoken to Marsella or Carlota in two days but I'm sure they're underground and if they aren't, they will be soon.

This marks the end of the legible fragment of the letter written by Professor Dunhill. The body of Dunhill was found in his room with six stab wounds in his heart. The rest of the letter is still trying to be deciphered as it was written in a dead native language of from the coast of Italy. More news to come in the next 48hrs.
