Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Bryan felt so nervous when it now became a reality of his instincts that Madison is lesbian, now he knew as a well mannered father that he had to ask Kaitlyn questions that are normally for a boy. They all stared at each other in the living room as he cleared his throat.

"I have never had to do this before to a girl." He forced a smile.

"Sir, it is fine, ask me anything you want. I have been through it more times than I count." Kaitlyn replied with a nod.

Madison held Kaitlyn's hand.

"What do you like about my daughter?" Bryan asked.

"Everything. She is sweet, kind, loving, beautiful and a girl that I have always been looking for." Kaitlyn replied with sincerity in her face.

"How long will you be dating her?" He asked in a stern voice looking at them both.

"I would have to say as long as I can, I will never leave her and if I do then it is my own damn fault to let someone like her go." She replied when she squeezed Madison's hand tightly.

"Will you have her home by curfew?" He asked with reassurance.

"Yes, of course, not unless I ask permission for her to be out longer." Kaitlyn replied with a smile.

"Are you taking her to Prom?" Bryan asked in a nervous voice.

"Yes sir, I am." Kaitlyn replied with a smile at Madison.

"Do you plan on getting lucky?" Bryan asked in a hushed tone.

"Dad!" Madison butted in.

"Mr. Somers, I can honestly say no because dating is not just about sex, if it happens then look at it this way she won't get pregnant." Kaitlyn replied laughing out loud.

Bryan laughed out loud. "I think that is it, you should get home before it gets to late." He got up and extended his hand out to Kaitlyn, as they shook hands. "It is a pleasure to meet you." Bryan nervously replied then let go of her.

"It is a pleasure to meet you too, sir." Kaitlyn responded with a smile.

Mr. Somers headed upstairs, Kaitlyn and Madison remained sitting there.

"I have best get going don't want Erin or my dad to freak out for being gone to long." Kaitlyn said when in the back of her mind she wanted to stay with Madison.

"Wait, before you do, I will buy the Prom tickets tomorrow while I am at cheerleading practice. You definitely come and watch then after I would like it if you could come help me pick out a dress." Madison replied with a smile.

"Yes, I would love to watch you practice along with helping you pick out a dress. I do have to pick up my tuxedo at Keeners Tux's." Kaitlyn responded.

"So, it's a date?" Madison asked.

"Yes, it is." Kaitlyn replied with a smile.

Kaitlyn walked to the door then opening the door and turned around to kiss Madison on the cheek.

"I will see you tomorrow, do you need a ride to school?" Kaitlyn asked Madison.

"Yes, I would love a ride to school with you even if it means to see you a bit before classes." Madison replied with a smile.

Kaitlyn kissed Madison's cheek again and gave her tight hug.

"Thank you so much for staying here with me and helping me come out to my parents." Madison said.

"You're very welcome." Kaitlyn replied.

Kaitlyn went down the stairs, getting into her car and then as she pulled out of the drive, she saw Madison running down the stairs waving her arms in the air.

"Kaitlyn! Kaitlyn!" Madison shouted.

Kaitlyn, placed the car in park as she got out and raced to Madison.

"What is wrong Madison?" Kaitlyn asked with concern.

"Come quickly." Madison replied quickly.

Kaitlyn raced into the house following Madison all the way upstairs to find Mrs. Somers lying on the floor.

"It is my mom." Madison said gasping for a deep breath as she extended her arm out and had her pointed finger at her mom Karen then looked around for Jaxon and Iris with hopes they come soon.

Madison patted Kaitlyn on her shoulder. "Jaxon is staying the night with Iris, I will have to contact him later about mom." Kaitlyn shook her head not liking this idea.

Bryan is over top Karen giving her CPR, Kaitlyn moved Madison to the side then have Bryan move aside to call 911 as Kaitlyn continued giving CPR to Karen.

"1 and 2 and 3 and 4..." Kaitlyn spoke softly as she continued to press on Karen's chest, breathing in her mouth in between intervals.

"I don't know." Bryan shouted into the phone.

Madison just stood there watching in horror.

"2305 Summers Road, Hurry!" Bryan slammed down the phone startling Madison.

"Sorry, Maddy, they ticked me off." He hugged Madison tightly.

Soon enough lights appeared through the windows at that moment Bryan ran downstairs.

"She's up here." Bryan shouted.

The paramedics entered the room with a stretcher then looked at Kaitlyn.

"How long have you been giving her CPR?" The paramedic asked as Kaitlyn stepped back to let them take over.

"About ten minutes now, there is a faint pulse." Kaitlyn replied with a shaky voice.

Paramedics picked Karen off the floor, placing her on the stretcher, strapping Karen down and they ascended down the stairs as Bryan followed them into the ambulance. He turned around looking at both Madison and Kaitlyn.

"Maddy, get a hold of Jaxon and Iris then meet us at the hospital. See you both soon." Then climbed into the back of the ambulance.

Madison sent a text message to Jaxon to let him know that it is urgent for him to be at the hospital and to bring Iris with him. Kaitlyn and Madison rushed out the door into Kaitlyn's car in a hurry to get to the hospital, Kaitlyn peeled out of the driveway at eighty miles per hour to get to the hospital as soon as possible. They reached the hospital unfortunately Kaitlyn forgot to put the car in park, so Madison did it for her. Both got out and raced inside.

They hurried to find Madison's mom, they stopped a doctor to ask and he said,

"She is in room 202."

Madison and Kaitlyn ran hand in hand all the way to the elevators than to find Karen's room. They reached the room as Kaitlyn gave a nod of reassurance. Kaitlyn saw Bryan by the window at that moment Madison said,

"Dad!"

Bryan turned around looking at her, Madison saw tears in his eyes with the machines buzzing by them.

"There's no news...They are doing tests." Bryan said with a frown. "Is your brother and Iris on the way? I want our family together."

Madison nodded with tears streaming down her face. "I have also let him know the room number too."

About twenty minutes later Jaxon and Iris arrived, Jaxon went over hugging Bryan and Iris did the same. The three of them spoke silently, Madison leaned back against Kaitlyn then blurted out.

"This is all my fault."

Bryan moved over from the window to Madison's side. "Maddy, this isn't your fault, she has been sick for quite sometime." Bryan replied with a frown, he grabbed her by the shoulders and then held her tightly in his arms. "You couldn't have done anything or to prevent it, I should have told you and Jaxon sooner. It's just hard too and I am not sure how to say it."

Jaxon stepped around his dad then went to Madison's side replying,

"What are you talking about? Is everything alright? What the hell is going on?" Jaxon questioned.

"Calm down Jaxon, I don't know how to tell you both, you're mother wanted to tell you both sooner but I couldn't do it." Bryan stared at both of them with serious eyes. He could see hurt in both their eyes but how could he tell them both the truth.

A light in the hallway turned dark, a figure stood in the doorway, all five bodies turned to see Doctor Kurt Burns standing there.

"Excuse me for interrupting, test are done, will you all please follow me?" Dr. Burns spoke softly.

Kaitlyn looked at Madison whose face frozen in terror, they took each others hands though Kaitlyn squeezed Madison's for reassurance. All five of them followed the doctor down a long hallway that had tiles of white with freckles of brown, every door had tags on them reading: Dr. Sheila Manor OBGYN, Dr. Patricia Wright Pediatrics, and Dr. Kurt Burns door is on the right his read Illness, Treatment, and Cancer. He opened the door though Kaitlyn took in the overflow of books on the bookshelves, pictures of patients and families plastered the walls in which the bookshelves weren't in the way, three leather chairs sat across from his desk, big desk full of papers and his name plate on the front of it.

"Come on in, have a seat." Dr. Burns spoke softly as he took a seat.

Madison moved slowly like a zombie, so did Bryan and Jaxon, they all three sat down though Kaitlyn and Iris stood by their partners for support.

"What is going on? Bryan practically shouted at Dr. Burns.

"Mr. Somers, please calm down, this is a serious matter. You're wife, you're mother...." He looked at Madison and Jaxon. "Has a malignant tumor on one of her kidney's. We are going to put her on top of a donor's list. There's no guarantee when we will get one so would Madison want to do it? You only need one kidney to survive though the process is a bit painful but it will pass in a day or two on the third day you will get to go home. So, Madison would you want to do this?" Dr. Burns looked at Madison.

"Dr. Burns that can't be done." Bryan spoke without looking at his daughter.

"What are you talking about?" Madison turned on her father.

Bryan's eyes filled up with tears. "She doesn't have the same blood type, she was adopted." He said in a heavy weight going off of his shoulders.

Madison sank back in her chair it is as if she is hit by a train, all of this information is to much as it is. Did she hear right? She's adopted. The parents that she loved so dearly weren't her real parents and that means Jaxon isn't her real brother either. Frowning Kaitlyn grabbed Madison's hand looking to her for support.

"I am A positive which means I can't help my wife since she is O negative." Bryan said quietly.

Jaxon looked at his dad. "I can do it, I can give mom my kidney." Bryan shook his head. "You can't either, you and Madison are the same blood type but are definitely blood siblings, you both have the same parents when we adopted you two."

Madison felt grateful Jaxon is at least her blood but she still doesn't want to believe that Bryan and Karen aren't her real parents it seemed unreal. So, that leaves Kaitlyn and Iris?

Bryan nodded. "If it isn't them two than we will have to put you're mom on the donor list."

"O negative?" Kaitlyn asked.

"Yes, that's right O negative which means someone that is O negative person must give up their kidney in order for this all to go smoothly." Dr. Burns replied from his chair.

Kaitlyn looked at Iris saying,

"What is your blood type?"

Iris held Jaxon's hand tightly replying,

"Honestly, I have no clue."

"Mr. Somers, Dr. Burns I am O negative." Kaitlyn said to them both.

"Do you know what this means for you if you were to do this?" Dr. Burns asked.

"Yes, actually I do. I am willing to do it." Kaitlyn replied squeezing Madison's hand.

"No! Kaitlyn you can't do this!" Madison shouted in the silent room.

"Madison, I have to, I know what it is like to lose someone you love and I am not about to let that happen to you when I know that I can do something to help." Kaitlyn looked at Madison. "I lost my mom about four years ago to breast cancer, their wasn't nothing anyone could do, I can't just walk away knowing theirs something I can do, I hope you understand that." Kaitlyn replied with a broken heart of missing her mom.

"Kaitlyn, I don't know what to say." Madison looked at her with tears threatening to take over. Madison is falling for Kaitlyn hard and hell she's beginning to think she is in love with her.

Dr. Burns sat there as he asked. "So, what is it going to be?"

"I will do it." Kaitlyn replied.

"Good, we will have to get you set up in a room, do some tests to make sure that everything is alright with you're body, and then come tomorrow if everything is good we will go on with surgery." Dr. Burns responded as he stood up then had everyone follow him.

Kaitlyn began thinking about this knowing that even if it weren't to work out for her and Madison that she would be able to sleep at night knowing she did something to help. Plus, she had something very important to say to Madison when it came time for the Prom. Kaitlyn hoped that Madison wouldn't push her away.
