I looked at the guy for a few moments, I could tell that he was sizing me up, as if he expected me to run at him or his wife at any moment in time. That was not the case however, I always wondered why people treated me like that. I thought maybe it was because of the color of my skin.
I had never heard any jokes about latino people going to peoples houses and killing their family however, so I was not sure what that was about. I just did my best to try and shake it off, and keep myself calm at the same time as well.
I did my best to stay calm however, and I tried to tell myself that it was all going to be alright. Then the dreams came back to me, I had nightmares about all of the stuff that my father used to tell me about when I was a child. All about Jeffrey Epstein and all of that other crazy stuff.
I had been having dreams like that ever since then as well, but less frequently once me and my father split apart. As it turned out as well, all that my father had told me about Jeffrey Epstein ended up being true. I just did not want to give him that satisfaction.
I blinked my eyes, trying to get my focus back on the present, and all that was going on around me. I could tell that the guy was starting to get a bit worried, I had not responded to the question that he had just asked of me a few moments ago.
I did not blame him, for the way that he was acting either. This was his house, and it was his property. I was lucky that he had not already called the police on me. If I sat there any longer, I also realized that he might end up doing so in the end.
I focused my attention on the guy, as I then nodded an apology to him, he did not seem to understand, either that or he was not quite ready to take my apology quite yet, until he found out what exactly was going on. I cleared my mind, and just focused on what he had asked me, as I began to speak back to the guy.
"I am sorry... It has just been really rough on me the past couple of days, my truck got shut down, and I knew it was going to happen, I was just hoping that I could get to a more safe area." I said to the guy. The guy looked at me for a few moments, and then he squinted his eyes at me.
I realized my mistake the moment I had said it as well. I did not mean for it to sound like that when I said a more safe location. I could tell that it had got to his head, and I tried to clear my own skin by continuing with what I had just said, but he responded to me quicker than I could keep on talking.
"Yeah we noticed you looked a bit worried, we saw you in your truck as you walked passed us from quite a long ways away. This area is not that scary, so you don't have to worry about any ghouls attacking you." He said back to me, but this time it was with a bit of a smirk on his face.
I did not like the look that he had on his face if I was going to be completely honest with myself. Plus, if he had seen me from far away, why did he and his wife have such creepy smiles on their faces? There was only 3 theories I think that could come out of that.
1st, it could be because they were weird and they liked to see other people in pain, which would not surprise me, but from the first impressions that I was getting from the couple, it did not seem to be like that at all. They seemed to be harmless people, and they were just trying to protect themselves.
The 2nd one, was the father part of me, thinking that they might have been in contact with that little girls parents, and they knew all about what was going on. They were tracking me, and they were planning on sacrificing me to the devil. It was the least likely outcome, and I kind of despised my father for putting those sort of thoughts in my head all of the time.
The 3rd one, was that they were talking to each other, and they were just smiling because of something that they had said to one another. They did not have time to comprehend the fact that a guy in a truck had a worried look on his face.
The 3rd one seemed to make the most sense to me. I did my best to think that it was the most likely outcome out of all of them as well. I then looked back at the guy, as I saw him squinting his eyes at me still, he was also holding his wife back to getting any closer to me as well.
If his wife had any sort of smarts though, he should know that she would not just give some random stranger like me, that had showed up on their doorstep a hug. I cleared my mind from those thoughts however, as I then realized that I still had not responded to what he had just said.
"Yes... Sorry, I just am not thinking properly right now, it has been a rough couple of days... I don't know what's wrong with my truck either, I am not very good with those sorts of things." I said to him. He looked at me for a few moments, and then he nodded to me once again.
I also noticed that he had that same strange smirk on his face that I had seen from him just a few moments ago as well. It kind of freaked me out. I wondered what kind of crazy stuff the guy might be thinking about at the moment.
I tried to clear all of the conspiracies that my father had told me about from my head as well at the same time. As I then kept my head up to the guy, as he then began to speak back to me again.
"Its alright, you can stay here for a couple of days, I do not know a lot about trucks very well either. We can get you in town, its about 10 miles out west in a couple of days and get your stuff checked up on, I am afraid to tell you that you cant call or text people though." He said to me. I looked at him for a few moments.
I wondered how old school the guy was, he did know that there was a such thing as wifi calling and texting right? Even if I could not do that, I could easily download an app that could get me to text and call people at the same time as well.
I was not too worried about that however. Maybe a few days of rest and clearing my mind was exactly what I needed, maybe it was a blessing in disguise from God. I just was too blind to see it like that, maybe my dad was wrong about all that crazy shit he had told me about.
I realized that the guy was looking at me, waiting for me to respond once again. This time though he did not look worried that I was not responding right away however. The guy was smart enough to realize that I had meant it when I had said that I had a lot of stuff going on in my head.
I looked back over at the guy, and then I nodded to the guy thankfully. I suppose that I had a very bad first impression about the people in Kansas. My father had just always grown me up to be scared all of the time, so I could not help but think that way. I then began to speak back to the guy.
"Thank you... I will sleep on the floor if you need me too, I am just happy to have a safe place to stay for the night. You can take your time helping me, I am lucky to not just be stuck here with no signal and no way out." I said to the guy. The guy looked at me for a few more moments, and then he nodded to me again.
He then turned his head around and he nodded to his wife at the same time. His wife nodded back to him, and then she began to walk out of the room, to the kitchen is what I could assume from the far left side of me. He then looked back over at me, and he then began to talk to me again.
"My wife is going to get you some water. You do not need to worry about sleeping on the floor. We have 4 bedrooms upstairs, my son will take you to one of them for you... Heaven... I do not even sleep with my wife in the same room." He said to me. I looked at him for a few moments, not thinking too much about what he had just said to me.
I wondered if it was some sort of satanic ritual to not sleep in the same room with your wife. I had not heard of that before... I shook my head, these people were clearly not a part of a cult, so I did not know why my mind was automatically thinking like they were.
It did seem a bit weird at the fact that the guy had said heaven in that sentence though, the word hell would have made a lot more sense in that context. I should not think that deep into it though, because it really was not that deep at all.
I realized why the guy had his head turned behind him for a little bit now. His son, who looked to be maybe the age of 12 or 13, was sitting at the side of the steps, trying to sneak in on the conversation that we were having with one another, such as any kid would do.
The kid turned his head a bit surprised to have known that his father had noticed him, but he snuck his head out fully this time, with a bit of a guilty look on his face. I tried my best to hide a smile, I did not know what this family considered funny to them quite yet, I had a bit of a dark sense of humor.
I got this feeling that this family had an even darker sense than me for some odd reason. I did not know why I was thinking like that, but it was just some odd thought that was just in my mind at the exact moment in time. The kid stepped down from the stairwell, as he then began to speak to me.
"Sorry dad... I will take him upstairs, please don't hit me like you always do!" The kid said to his dad. I looked at him a bit surprised, as the father I could tell was a bit upset with the kid. I moved back, now wondering if it was such a good idea to ask these people for help.
The father looked like he was going to go up to the kid and beat him for saying that. He held his temper though, and the father then turned his head back over to me. Putting his hands a bit lower, as if I was a little puppy, and he was trying to calm me down.
I looked at him a bit confused, and I stayed still, I had not other choice but to act like that. If I tried to run out, I feared what would happen to me if I tried to do so. The guy then began to speak to me, and I could tell he was just trying to calm me down.
"I am sorry... Please excuse my son Braden, our family has a weird sense of humor, he meant that in a joking way." He said to me. I looked at him, still not quite sure about it, but I then slowly began to calm myself down at the same time as well.
It still seemed a bit strange to me as well still, it seemed as if they were reading my thoughts at the same time too. I closed my eyes for just the slightest of moments. I enjoyed dark humor jokes, but I did not expect it to come out of the blue like that.
I sat there for a few moments, and then I began to start laughing. After a few more seconds, the rest of them began to laugh at the same time as well. It calmed down the pot that had been stirring up in the room for the last couple of seconds.
The wife came in at the same time as well, a bit confused as to what was going on. She looked around, confused as to what she had missed while she had been gone from the room. She was doing her best to relax at the same time as well.
Which it made sense to me, the others had already opened up to me. It usually took women a bit longer to open up to someone that they did not know. She too began to laugh, though she had no clue what all of us were laughing about in the first place.
Once we quit with our giggles, the lady then handed me the glass cup of water that she had filled up for me. I looked at the water for just a few seconds, just to make sure it looked clean to drink. I had that habit, I had gotten it from my mother, I did not like to see water that did not look clean.
I then began to drink the water, as all of us then began to relax ourselves in the room, all of us standing still at the same time. I finished up with the water fairly fast, I did not realize how thirsty that I had been, sitting on that hot front porch for quite some time.
I also was a bit hungry as well, but I was already pushing it a bit too far when I had drank the cup of water. I should not ask for anything else for the rest of the night, they were already going to give me a place to stay for the next couple of days.
The wife then looked at the other 2 to make sure that they were okay, and that they were all settled. As any wife should do with her family. She then looked back over to me, and she then nodded to me. I payed attention to her fully this time, as she began to speak to me.
"Well... I am glad that you all are already getting along. Since it is already a bit past 11:00, I think that we should all get some rest." She said to me. I looked at her, and then I nodded to her. I did not realize how tired I really had been until she had said that.
The husband then nodded to me, and then looked over at his son who was still in the room with the rest of us. His son nodded back to his father, and I wondered if they were speaking through their minds once again. I shook my head, and then walked over to the kid.
I noticed that the husband squinted his eyes at me once again as I walked past. I felt like I might as well clear up the stiff air that was in the room at the moment, as I could tell that it was a bit weird in the air. I then began to speak to them, and I could tell that the husband was a bit surprised for me to step up this time.
"My name is Anthony, I already know your sons name is Braden... What are you twos names?" I asked, mainly looking at the husband, due to the fact that he was clearly the man of the house. He looked at me a bit surprised, but he then nodded to me.
He moved his eyes to his wife, but he kept his face pointed towards me. I wondered why that was so, but I did not think too deep into it once again. The man then smiled at me, this time not as the weird smiles that he had on his face a few moments ago, as he began to talk back to me.
"I am Patrick, Pat for short. This is my wife, Ashely, Ash for short." He said to me. I looked at him and then I nodded to him. I could tell it cleared up the room quite a bit, now that we knew each others names, and this time as I began walking over to Pats son, Braden, he did not have to worried look that he had a few moments ago.
I looked back over at them one last time, saying 1 last thing to them before I went upstairs to sleep in the bed that they had for me for the night. I guess it was already ready, as if they had expected someone coming in a weird sense.
"That should be easy to remember, you 2 have a good night... Ill be up bright and early in the morning." I said to them. The husband turned his head, and he nodded to me, and then him and his wife kept on walking over to their bedrooms, that were apparently separate from each other.
It might have been a bit of a lie, when I said I would be up early, I tended to be a deep sleeper in the night. I then heard the kid begin to walk up the steps, and I followed him up there as well. As I got up to the top, he looked back at me to make sure that I was still up there with him.
I felt like making another dark humor joke, but I chose not to. Sometimes I had to remember that I was the adult, and I was with a young kid at the moment, so I thought it best not to do so. As the kid then turned his head back to the hallway that was in front of us.
I looked around at the place, it was a fairly big house, and it had a nice red and black paint along the walls as well, as it was lined up with some gold patches here and there as well. It was strange but it was intriguing at the same time though.
I realized that the kid was walking further down the hallway, and I began to follow the kid, as he turned his body into a room that was on the far right, right beside a bathroom that I made a note of as I followed him into the bedroom.
I looked around at the bedroom, this one was a bit different, it was painting with darkness, and weird stars all over the room that seemed to be weirdly familiar at the same time, though I could not quite grasp my hands on it at the moment.
The kid turned his head over to me, and then he moved his hand towards the bed, to let me know that was where I was going to be sleeping for the night. It was a bit of a small room, but as should a guest bedroom should be though.
I should not be complaining either, I was lucky to even have a place to lay my head for the night. I nodded to the kid, and then I sat down on the bed. It was a bit if a stiff bed, I was not going to lie, but it was better than sleeping in the truck like I usually did most nights.
The kid then walked to the door of the room, and he turned his head back over at me one last time. I looked at him, as the kid then began to speak to me.
"Do you want the light off?" He asked me, I then nodded to the kid to let him know that I did. He then turned the light off and said one last thing to me before he left the room. "If you need anything just hollar at me, and I will be there in a jiffy."
It was weird to hear that slang used, I had not heard that used since I was a young kid, and I was with my grandmother. I shook my head, and then I closed my eyes, I was so tired as is at the moment, it did not really matter to me all that much.
I did hear one last thing, before I basically layed my head to fully rest for the night. The kid locked the door to his room. I shook my head, and then I whispered to myself a bit quickly, still having the thoughts from earlier in my head at the same time.
"And he thinks hes the one that should have his door locked..."
