And it was then, that a student exclaimed the word, "D-dragon…!"
I opened my eyes up and saw a black dragon in front of me, as the smoke that surrounded the hall faded away, into dusts.
Looks like I've done it… I managed to summon a Dragon!
I nearly let out a laugh, as I mumbled the words, "Efforts are really paid with success…" to myself.
Well, if I did more hard work than I did now, maybe I had died like how that man on the memory I saw, said.
Just who was that guy?
Mister Gustav tapped my shoulder and reminded me of, "Next is the naming ritual, your highness. Don't you need to give it a purpose?"
I gasped and nodded.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Fafnir!"
It is the name of the dragon in the Norse mythology that used to be a dwarf, who had become a dragon to protect his treasures, out of his own greed.
As I casted the name, a sigil appeared on the dragon's neck.
Sigil is a symbol that represents the pact created between the master and the familiar. If I were to rephrase it, I would say that it is a stamp.
After naming it, I swayed my hand and said, "Fade..!" which made the dragon quickly hide on my shadow.
The next time Fafnir would appear again, is when I call him with the name I bestowed.
If I remember it right, in cases that a master die, the familiar would summon itself on the place the master died and would stay there for 20 years.
They will of course become someone's familiar, if that someone managed to tame them, but if they didn't become someone's familiar, they will disappear when that 20 years passed by.
I went to one of the benches in the training hall, while the next one followed after me to summon theirs.
Next to me was Forth.
He tilted his glasses, before he chanted the spell to summon a familiar and a serpent eating its own tail appeared.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Ouroborous!"
As he stated so, the sigil then appeared on the serpent's forehead.
Ouroborous, huh..?
It is the name of a serpent that eats its own tail. Despite, the fact that it's eating its own tail this serpent still lives on.
That makes it the symbol of immortality, and also signifies the cycle of birth and death.
Now that I remember, other than the fact I stated earlier, there was a line written about familiars on my book.
"They are the true ego of their masters and mistress"
Somehow, it is making me all intrigued and scared realizing that a serpent is Forth's true ego…
Forth looked at me, before sitting down the other bench that is a bench away from the one I was sitting at.
He tilted his glasses, and crossed his legs and arms.
Do you have to sit that far from me? Have I done something for you to avoid me purposely, like that?
I sighed.
Next was Gino, who winked before chanting and a three-headed hound appeared, and made me nearly jump on my seat.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Cerberus"
A sigil appeared on the middle head's forehead.
Cerberus!
It is the name of a multi-headed hound that guards the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from leaving.
A very cool one..!
But, well. I cleared my throat. Let's not tell him that, surely he will boast about it, until he gets tired.
After Gino, Russell followed and a giant carrying a scale, who looked like it is ready to hit someone with justice anytime now, appeared.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Libra!"
A sigil appeared on the back of the Giant's right hand.
Hmm, Libra is the name of a zodiac sign. And this name is also the Latin for the word scales, which the giant has.
I can empathize with it, for I was a Libra as Hakuya Soraki, since my birthday was on October 20.
Next to Russell was Reina.
She chanted as her crimson hair that looked like blazing fire danced with wind, using the spell she uttered as music.
She is beautiful if she remain quiet and behave, I guess…
Once Reina finished chanting, a white winged horse appeared and made my jaw fell down, along with my eyes.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Pegasus!"
A sigil appeared on the horse's forehead.
Pegasus is the name of a mythical winged divine horse and is one of the most recognized creatures in Greek mythology.
They are usually depicted as pure white.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that the true ego of this tsundere princess is pure white, like the Pegasus she summoned?
I sighed.
After her was the timid girl, Anna. Even though she was shivering like a newborn puppy, who first saw humans, she stood in front and volunteered.
I'm kinda proud of her.
While casting the spell, she kinda bit her tongue and the result of it was a pure-white Angel that is exactly the same as her.
If we leave aside the fact that the angel don't have any halo and its wings are a bit torn, that is.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Eve!"
A sigil appeared on the angel's chest.
Eve is the name of the first woman to be born, who is the wife of Adam, and is the mother of Cain and Abel.
Not bad!
The last to summon his familiar was Kirt, who lazily chanted the spell and a shadow appeared, as his familiar.
Precisely you, is what I wanted to say.
"The name I shalt bestow is thine treasure. It will make a pact between us, for I am thine master. I shalt name thee… Kage!"
As he did the sigil appeared on the shadow
The name he gave his familiar was Kage… Shadow for a shadow, aren't you kinda sloppy Kirt?
I sighed, as he went to the benches, after his familiar faded into his shadows like a shadow should, and Kirt went to sleep.
Can you wait until we reach the dorms?
…
"Ok, now we're all done. That's all for today, you should go to the dorms and take a rest already, folks" Mister Gustav said
And so the so-called Phase 2 of our introductions ended.
I kinda made a lot of speculations about the reason why they chose that name. But now that I remember none of that, is known at this universe.
Before entering the room that I will be staying at for 4 years, I took a deep breath in and out.
Upon entering, I saw Russell and he greeted me, "Nice to meet you, your highness" which I greeted back with, "Likewise here"
We smiled at each other.
"I'm glad that you were my roommate, Sir Figmorth" I beamed a smile at him, which made him quickly move closer to me and say, "Russell's fine, your highness
Upon seeing his determined look, a chuckle left my mouth.
"You don't have to call me your highness or prince. Ed's fine with me, Russell" I held out my hand to him, which he took.
He beamed a smile at me and said, "I look forward living with you, Ed"
Dots passed by us, as neither one of us let go of the hand of the other, and a red flush appeared on our faces.
I looked at Russell and saw his cute smile, which made me quickly let go of his hand and made the latter surprised.
"Ed?" he mumbled, as he tilted his head to the side.
Another few more seconds, and I had fallen down an endless pit that I won't be able to go back from, anymore.
I grabbed on my collar and took a deep breath in and out, before looking back at Russell.
"Still it is kinda weird saying we're both glad to be roommates, since we just met earlier and all"
I rubbed my nape, trying to calm myself down.
"Is it?" Russell asked, as he pressed his chin, with his index finger, and I mumbled, "E-eh?" with a baffled expression.
It is weird, right..?
…
A lot had happened today.
The introductions that were kinda hell for Mister Gustav and the summoning ritual that was too fun for me to watch.
I guess going to school really can be fun. Unlike how it did, when I was Hakuya Soraki...
The images of others laughing at me and mocking me from behind, as I pay no attention to them, came to my mind.
I quickly shook my head.
Well, all of this is just a prologue. I will surely have many friends as time pass, and I will enjoy school activities and festivals with them.
I will enjoy this life until I die!
The epilogue is still far and unknown to me right now. But I'm sure that I will arrive to it, someday.
It might even become a happy end that will make me look back at this day, while grinning.
So for now, I shall rest and watch over this life of mine here in Exelia, as Edward Finn von Collins.
…
At the forest inside the academy, a small tornado occurred.
The tornado cleared out and a blonde haired girl appeared. "It has been a while. I hope I can see brother, this time" she mumbled and dispersed into the air.
"Fwahh…" I yawned, as I laid down my bed.
For some reason, I felt an intuition of encountering someone that will surely be the trigger of everything yet known by us.
