The game continued with each team scoring one after another. Elly would look at his cousin from time to time who seems to be lost in thoughts and when she look at him her pupils are big, almost filling in the brown color of her eyes, once she scores a goal she would hold her head and walk like some drunken girl.
Every time Shaine shoots it never fails to miss a single one, which is unusual, Shaine is a good player but not that good that she can score one point after another. Though it's only Elly who notices it, the other players are busy playing and supporting his cousin with every goal she makes.
A loud whistle came from the referee stating that it was already half-time. Elly walk towards his cousin who's sitting on the ground with a towel on her head.
"Hey you okay there?" he asks while settling down beside her.
Shaine pulls down the towel on her head and gently taps it on her face, drying some of her dripping sweat. "I'm perfectly fine just a little exhausted," she said smiling.
Elly stared at his hands, debating whether he should ask or not, but he choose not to ask some weird questions.
"My shots are never this good." Shaine suddenly said.
Elly softly laugh and gently punch her shoulder. "Don't be absurd your practicing is paying off," he said.
Shaine takes off the towel from her face revealing her eyes and staring strongly at her cousin.
"I've known you for like my entire life, I know you sense something is off with my gameplay today, it's not the usual me," she said and shut her eyes.
Elly didn't answer instead he just stare at his cousin. Maybe it's connected to what happened to her last Saturday, he thought. He was about to talk when a whistle echoed in the field.
Shaine open her eyes and stood up stretching her arms up high. "Let's get this over with, my head is killing me." she chuckled a bit and started walking only getting a few steps before kneeling to the ground with her hand holding tight on her head.
Elly who saw this instantly walk to her side and hold both her shoulders to keep her straight up.
"You don't look that good, I think you need to sit this one out," he said looking worried.
Shaine being stubborn shake her head and slowly get up herself. "I'm totally fine it's just the heat getting to me. I'll be okay, I can still play," she said and slowly walk into the field, leaving behind Elly with his worried face.
The game began with Alex dribbling the ball, he swiftly pass each opponent with ease, and he saw Elly waving ahead of him, so he pass the ball to Elly who caught it smoothly. He was going for the goal when the guy who was making a move on his cousin slid down kicking his ankle instead of stealing the ball.
Elly fell to the ground with a loud thud and a continuous groan, the crowd from their school instantly stood from their seats when he fell. The team yelled his name and run towards his position.
Shaine who is more worried about all the players runs faster even if her head is slightly twitching making her dizzy.
"Elly, Elly come on talk to me." Elly didn't respond to his cousin, all that came out of his mouth is a continuous of loud groans.
Whatever happened to Elly it was only seen and known by him and the guy from the other team.
Shaine hold Elly's head and laid it on her lap, their coach run off somewhere trying to find the medical team. She slowly pats a towel on Elly's forehead, his breaths are loud and deep, proving that he's in much pain.
She look back at the other team and saw the boy from earlier looking at them with a small smirk, seeing this made her blood boil, he did this, she thought. She badly wants to punch that stupid smirk off his face but she doesn't like violence.
Elly was soon sent off the field to be examined, with one player short the team huddled up to figure out something they can do to win this game.
"How can we win now that Elly's out?" one of their teammates asked.
Shaine is quietly listening to them until she cleared her throat catching their attention.
"Let her play," she said pointing to a girl sitting on the bench by them, she's also a member of the team, a newcomer that makes up the three girls of the team, she's still not that great but good enough to play one game.
"Do you have a plan Shaine?" their coach asked.
Shaine chuckles and shakes her head. "Nothing in particular coach," she said before smirking at the girl.
Shaine was told to train the girl a few weeks ago when she first arrived. Shaine had taught something to the girl that only the two of them know. It was just a simple trick but enough to probably win a game.
"I don't know what you had in mind but let's go with it." their coach agreed making the whole team cheer.
The whistle was blown and it was back in the field, Shaine look at the girl who look back at her too, they nodded to each other and run towards the middle of the field.
The ball was on the opponent, the instant the whistle was blown once more the player started dribbling the ball but he hasn't got far when it got stolen by the new girl. She dribbled it slowly until Shaine was by her side, they both run towards the opponent, forcefully making a pass at each player.
"What are you doing, they're just girls!" the team leader of the opponent yelled, feeling frustrated. He was about to steal the ball from the girl but she fastly pass it to Shaine.
Shaine badly wants to hurt the boy who did that to her cousin, but she has an even better idea, nothing can make a boy frustrated than being beaten by a girl, she thought.
She pass the ball to the girl who slowed down a bit, Shaine run faster to see the boy just ahead of her. She stop at her pace and turned 90 degrees.
"Shaine!" the girl yelled kicking the ball high towards her.
As the ball was about to pass her she turned a full circle she felt a lot of strength growing on her feet, her pupils began to grow and she kick the ball giving it more force than before for it to fly as if it was light because it was too fast it almost hit the boy at his face but luckily Shaine wasn't that evil.
A loud whistle echo in the field.
"Goal!"
That technique was hard for her to learn, she even twisted her ankle once trying to turn at the exact time, and luckily today luck was on her side.
The crowd cheers louder than before, yelling the team's name. Shaine who isn't paying attention to the crowd or even to her team, it was like all she can hear are each beat of her heart, she just glare daggers at the boy, his eyes are full of shock and his lips are slightly trembling. Shaine walks up to him stopping about 3 feet away.
"Nothing goes as planned if cheating is involved," she said smiling sweetly towards him. He's taken aback and felt a little flutter on his chest, realizing what he felt he quickly shakes the feeling away.
Shaine turns her back to the boy, she chuckles while slowly turning her head slightly. Her appearance looks dangerous, she's smiling at the boy but her eyes are what looks more dangerous, the brown color of her eyes is now gone and all that's left are plain pitch black.
"Don't do that again to anyone on my team because if you do I won't hesitate to kick that ball into your pathetic face." her voice was bitter but her smile is sweet, the boy is once again taken aback, she was like a two-faced girl, one with good and sweetness while the other with darkness.
Her eyes began to slowly come back to its original color. She slowly walks away from the boy, her hearing slowly improves, and now the noise from her surroundings booms in her ears. Her head began to ache again giving her vision a full blur but she shake the feeling and focused on the game.
The game soon continued with Shaine and the girl being in the spotlight, the game ended in just a flash. Shaine's team won with two points ahead. She doesn't care about the game, what she cares about most is her cousin who's injured.
"Coach, how's Elly?" she asks with a soft blue towel around her neck and a bottle of cold water in her hand.
Her coach smiles sincerely. "He's brought to the nurses' office for now for further examination. You did great out there Shaine, I'm glad you didn't take it out on that boy." Shaine knows to herself that their coach saw what had happened to Elly, she didn't ask why he didn't report instead she replied with a small smile.
She look back to the field seeing the other team walking towards them, she stood her ground and look calmly.
"Nice game." the boy from earlier said with his eyes averted. He walks up to her and stops about 2 steps away.
"I'm..... I'm sorry," he said in a low voice. His apology sound sincere which made Shaine smile.
"No problem," she said but suddenly all the headaches that were set aside from earlier came back to her.
She held the side of her head with her eyes shut, she open her eyes only to see big blobs of blur, she can feel her knees slowly weakening making her wobble. Some voices echoes in her head but it was too difficult for her to understand. Her headache got even worse when she began to feel dizzy. She can't fight the pain anymore and let it take her. Her body slowly fell to the ground making a thud.
