Rian sat down at a wooden table with seating for six, eating cereal as his mother passed her hand through his straight, black hair. A smile came over her face as she watched how big her first son had grown.
' Thirty eight years.'
She thought about his age and then she stepped back and sat down at the table beside him as he ate.
In the background, her husband moved around as he cleaned the kitchen. Placing the clear bowls that he just washed into the wooden cupboards, he closed the cupboard doors, sealing it in.
They looked pristine behind the glass of the cupboard doors, stacked in a horizontal manner. He then turned his attention to wiping down the countertops as water had settled upon them.
His wife looked at him for a few minutes and then turned her attention back to her first son.
Rian looked up at his mom whose face had now changed, showing the worrying side of her. Find your brother Johnathan she said with worry and concern in her voice.
Rian knew that his brother had never skipped a few days, without calling home. To miss contacting home for Christmas was completely unheard of.
I will, responded Rian as he rested the spoon in the cereal bowl. As his step father approached him, Rian stood and gave him a manly hug. Then he gave one to his mother. Then he picked up a traveller's backpack and a suitcase and then headed for the door.
His hired driver for a taxi service was outside waiting to take him to the Los Angeles International Airport.
The taxi pulled off as his mom and step dad watched it drive off under the mid morning sun heading towards the airport.
The taxi pulled to the left as they passed the decorative LAX sign, indicating that they had arrived at the airport. When the taxi stopped, Rian exited and acquired his luggage and then entered the busy airport.
Rian's eyes scanned the flight chart for the flight to the country of Trinidad & Tobago.
'Jet Blue 13:30 pm LAX to POS Trinidad. Terminal 2'
After acquiring the information, his eyes dropped to the bottom of the screen. The alert showed the currency exchange rates for today, Tuesday February 16th 2010.
Looking at his silver and gold watch, it was 12:05 pm. Securing his bags, he headed to the attendant to check in his luggage.
The two attendants chuckled with each other as he made his way to the counter. After eyeing him, one of them accepted his passport. A smile came over her face as she skipped through the pages. There were many exotic places that he had visited, as the attendant had become aware of.
After stamping it, he did the usual walk with his travelers bag, like everyone does, down the Aisle to the terminal. Looking through the window, Rian looked at the Jet - Blue plane that would carry him to the Piarco International Airport. The large white and blue Airbus was parked close to the airport. The large logo was displayed upon it, showing the name Jet - Blue in a dark blue color. The maintenance team was moving away from the plane indicating that everything was ok and it was cleared for take off.
Rian sat back in his second class seating thinking about Trinidad. He had not been to the little island in years, visiting his step dad's family on a Christmas vacation. That was many, many years ago. His stepdad's father and mother, who live in the southern part of the lovely Isle. They would definitely be surprised to see Rian, travelling on his own. Calls to their cell phone number have also gone unanswered but they might have seen Johnathan since he has not been in contact.
He had moved out from their home about a year ago, to an apartment in Marabella. The apartment would be on his list after he had settled down by his family, Rian thought to himself. He would first check the place that he had moved too, then he would check the Chinese casino that he worked at.
'Asters Chinese Casino.'
Riam closed his eyes, feeling the plane taxi down the runway and then taking off the ground. Its course was now set and the destination was to Trinidad.
'The Isle in the Caribbean with three peaks.'
