'Who's there!?',I thought when I quickly turned around to see if someone was behind me.Terrified, yet relieved I saw that I was the only person in the room. Why terrified you ask?Well that is because I,Armin Richter work at the morgue of the Beelitz-Heilstätten Sanatorium in Potsdam,Germany.Yes,a morgue.I come here every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to do my work wich includes cleaning the different rooms of the facility and bringing the corpses back to their respective coolers when the other staff members were done examining them and some other stuff.I don't know for what reason but my co workers always have night shifts so I'm usually alone at the workplace. It's not like I have a problem with that but since it is a morgue where I'm working at it sometimes does feel a little creepy when you're all alone with a bunch of corpses.I remember my first day here when I was given a tour of the building and got to the cooler room.I was shown how to carefully transport the bodies. That's when I freaked out for the first time.I was walking down the floor with a corpse in tow when I suddenly heard someone moaning. But to my surprise noone was there exept me;well at least not someone ALIVE.I slowly turned around and had a thorough look at the body that was placed on the carriage. No movements. No pulse. No sound.I felt as if someone was watching me,silently waiting for me.In spite of shivering all over my body I then proceeded to go to the cooler room, when yet again I heard a slight moan.I hastily looked around me and checked every corner of the floor, but noone was there.Strange isn't it?.In that moment I just had enough and ran out of the facility, towards home. That night I got a call from my superior who was asking why there was a carriage with a body in the middle of the third floor.I told him what happened but after a few seconds he burst out in laughter „Oh I'm sorry seems like I forgot to tell you something!".He calmed down a bit and started explaining: „The noise you heard came from the corpse. When a deceased body has air in it's lungs it sometimes gets released when being moved. You can then hear it as a slight moan or groan. It is just a natural occurence,so there is nothing to be afraid of,though I admit that it takes some time to get used to it".I sighed in relief after hearing that."Thanks,I really thought I was going crazy in there.",I replied."No problem, just call me if you need help or have any questions".And then he hung up.Quite the story wasn't it?It's true that it took me some time to get used to it,but now It's not scaring me anymore. That's what I thought.Though everything was fine for the first two years I worked there, lately there were some unusual incedents where I wasn't sure if what was happening was real or if my mind was just playing tricks on me…
