Chapter 73 - A Coincidence

Lynn's pov

…what the hell was that?

Saying he misses me all of a sudden. I don't know what's going on in his head, but it was nice to know how he felt. I wish I could see him right now.

I gently tapped my palms on my cheek, shaking off this feeling that is making me go crazy. Damn, saying that without any warning makes it so difficult to process.

Though it was a good thing he called to cancel our plans for the weekend. I was about to do the same thing earlier. It's sad that I won't get to see him, but we still have a lot of chances to see each other anyway so it's not a problem.

But then it hit me.

Knowing Cain is a part of a gang… and he even had to cancel our plans during the weekend…. "Shit!" A coincidence? I think not.

There's a chance that Wild Beasts will have to face the Reapers. So, it won't be a wonder if I'll be standing against Cain's group soon… I'll have to fight against him?

"Tsk, I can't do that!" I leaned on the wall and sighed.

Even if I don't want it to happen, I have no choice but to fight and make sure he won't recognize me at the battlefield! Then I'll quit the gang soon after that happens.

Then the door opened with Lyde coming in. "Oh, welcome back." I greeted.

Last time didn't go well with Lyde, and I may have gone a little too far with him. I have no idea if he's upset with me or not, though I hope he's not.

"Yeah…" he replied dryly, and got upstairs without another word.

I thought he was going to apologize, but it seems like he has something going on in his mind. If I had to guess, he must be having a hard time at my school 'til now. Haley isn't the type to let you off the hook. She'll make your life miserable at school until you decide to stop going to classes.

Haley's a real bitch… I can still remember clearly what happened when I cut ties with her. She slaps hard enough that you won't forget about it—"Tch. I had enough thinking of that girl." It's better if I deal with it later than to stress myself thinking about the past.

Right now, there are far more important things I have to tend to…

Then it wasn't that long until the weekend came. I had to ride with Keto all the way to the Hawkin's place. Mixed feeling were kicking in again, and I was hoping that we won't have to face the Reapers. "Tonight's going to be fun!" Keto laughed.

"Err, y-yeah hehe…"

"Tsk. You don't sound like you're having fun." Cause I'm really not!

"I'm just a little bit nervous."

"Haven't you gone through many fights already? You should be used to it by now."

"I know." I just didn't want to get hurt anymore. Remembering all the pain I went through made me shiver, and I even have to suffer through all that alone. It's not like Lyde will bother himself to help me, and I'm used to doing things all on my own.

Relying on others will only lead to disappointments, so it's always better to deal with your problems by yourself.

"Hell yeah! We're here!" Once again, we were all infront of this place. The Hawkin's place… it seemed like a normal building at first, but once you enter, it'll lead you to a place that feels like hell.

Everyone got into their positions, and Ren had to approach the masked man who were waiting for us. "…lead us the way." Ren demanded.

"Follow me." We all followed behind the man, until we reach a certain room who had another masked person waiting for us. This time, this masked person had a queen chess piece symbol on his mask.

"Greetings, Wild Beasts. I am the Neutral Faction's Queen, Sir Nigel's assistant. Sir Nigel personally assigned me to host tonight's event because he had some other things to do. And I would like to say that I look forward to your performance tonight."

"So Sir Nigel trusts the Queen enough to let him host such important event." Ren commented.

This so-called Queen guy chuckled and patted Ren's shoulder. "This is just a small business for him, so letting me handle it isn't that much of a big deal."

Geez, this masked guy is creepy. Every masked guy here is creepy.

"…anyways, you may all proceed to wait near the entrance to the bloody ring. You're guide awaits you outside this room." And so, we all left the room to follow another masked guy to lead the way for us again.

And before I got to step out of the room, I felt that the Queen is creepily staring at my direction. Glancing at him, it surprised me when he waved his hand at me. This feels like bad omen.

Then once we reached our waiting place, the noise from the bloody ring can be heard. People cheering and screaming. It was like that the first time I was there to fight. People who watches us were like demons craving to see extreme violence and blood shed.

I knew there were a few who died from that gang fight… what do they even do with the dead bodies?

"Shit." I've got goosebumps just by imagining.

"…WE HAVE A WINNER!" As that announcement reached my ears, I knew that we were going to fight in the bloody ring next.

Later on, the winner of the gang fight exited the ring. And we even got to see them up close because they exited through this entrance we were waiting at.

Then my heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw this person. He looked so different from how I usually see him. "C-Cain…" I muttered his name unconsciously, and I immediately covered half my face when he was about to pass by me.

He was one of the people who won from the gang fight. And he looked so exhausted… is that why he had to cancel? He had a competition to participate in. And I was thankful enough that we didn't have to fight.
