Chapter 12 - Jace | Chap. 11

The man screamed as I leaped and ripped at his throat, ending his life within mere seconds. With a blood covered snout, I gazed up, searching for my next target.

By my side, Rider teared at the throat of another Wolf, his black Wolf's amber eyes shining with a mixture of rage and something else I couldn't grasp. I scoffed and continued ahead. I jumped at another target while it held it's gun at me, arms shaking.

A grin lifted my lips. This is gonna be fun. Using my Werewolf speed, I dodged his bullets easily and then pinned him down with a wolfy grin. Horror laced the guy's gaze as he starred into the eyes of death. But a jolt of pale fur jabbed into my flank and threw me off my target. While I rolled onto the ground, a voice reached me through the link.

'Jace what are you doing!?' Cade snarled, eyeing me from his spot.

I shook my pelt and growled. 'What do you think I'm doing!? I'm getting rid of the enemy!'

'Those aren't Wolves Jace! There Humans!' My heart stopped at my Beta's words and I gazed at the unconscious man on the ground.

He didn't transformed when I attacked and seemed utterly terrified when he saw my Wolf...

Shit.

I already killed half a dozen of them. Once reinforcements arrive, the news about some rogue, dangerous animal will spread like powder in the wind.

I growled. 'It doesn't matter; right now we have to focus on getting out of here!'

But Cade held me back. 'Jace! Your father! I haven't seen him since the incident, and apparently no one has seen him since he gave the alarm!'

I froze and clenched my jaws. He's right... shit, why didn't I see it sooner!? My dark eyes turned to gaze at Rider, hoping I wasn't making a mistake by trusting him.

'Rider! Round up any Selene Wolves you can find! Get to the Rendezvous point! Cade and I will search for my father. Don't come back for us no matter what!'

His black Wolf head nodded and he bolted away while Cade followed my steps, and we dashed for the mansion.

It was eerily quiet when we arrived at the house's doors which were half opened with no sign of break in. The bastards snuck in... no wonder the attack took us by surprise... But a sudden pain in my left side made me flinch and I suddenly felt dizzy. Cade trotted to my side but I dismissed him instantly.

'I'm fine.' I shook my pelt and continued to walk ahead ignoring my dizziness. What the hell was that...? I wasn't shot or injured... Where did that pain come from?

Dismissing the thought, I squeezed trough the large doors and crept onto the floor as quietly as possible. There wasn't any trace of forced entry, but I could see a few bullet holes on the floor and walls. Whoever broke in must've given quite a fight. Quietly, Cade and I crept through the hallway and checked the kitchen and living room when we reached the end. A man laid face down onto the kitchen table, drenched in a pool of his own blood, his gun still in hand. Curious, I trotted towards the body and checked the firearm.

My heart stopped when I spotted the shell case. I turned to look at Cade who's wide, worried eyes confirmed my fears.

Silver bullets. The only bullet able to kill werewolves. Whoever these humans were, they knew what they were facing.

"Over there! Shoot'em!!" Shouts from the floor above caught Cade and I's attention while a scream of pain resonated from the stairs.

The smell of blood and gun powder flooded from the stairs, mixed with the putrid scent of humans and my father's familiar aroma. A yelp of pain followed the ruckus and I quickly scrambled upstairs, Cade following behind me.

When I reached the hallway, I was greeted with streaks of blood and dead bodies loitering the floor. The shouts came from the last room, my parents room and I quickly dashed for it, leaping over the bodies while my paws stained the ground with bloody paw prints.

I arrived in the room and quickly jumped onto the first man I saw, ripping his throat out first chance I got. Cade followed my lead and under a shower of mislead fire, we killed the remaining enemy. With that out of the way, I gazed around and searched for any sign of my father, worried by earlier screeches.

But he was nowhere to be seen.

'Angel!' I was startled when Cade ran up to a small grey Wolf who had taken refuge in the closet, eyes wide and tail wagging when she came to meet her brother.

'Cade, Jace! I was so worried, I thought the Humans had caught you!'

'I'm fine don't worry.' I walked up to Angel, her blue Wolf eyes meeting mine.

'Have you seen my father?'

She shook her head, ears pinned back. 'No... I was attacked shortly after the alert. But I think he was downstairs...' she paused, giving out a small whimper of fear when she gazed down. 'What's going on!?'

Cade frowned as he pressed his snout against her cheek. 'Humans. We don't know how but they broke in.'

I growled. Come on this isn't the time for reunions, we got to get rid of the pests invading my-

"AAAARGH!!!!" Another scream, this time from downstairs' chilled me to the bones.

'Dad!' I turned to Cade and Angel, my eyes burning with anger. 'Angel! Find Rider, help him round up any survivors and head to the rendezvous point!'

But she insisted. 'Jace, I can help!'

But I refused and used my rank to make her obey. 'Angel, go, NOW!' Instantly, she nodded her silver head and dashed out of the room.

I didn't waste a second and raced downstairs through the south stairs, approaching the ruckus with every step. When I arrived by the back door, I spotted a pair of Humans, one male, one female, both pointing their guns at something on the ground.

I burst through the door, the hunters turning their guns towards me and as I landed onto the female, her gun shot towards her friend and injured his arm. I ripped her throat out then quickly jumped onto the already wounded male and finished the job. I spat a mouthful of blood and torn flesh from my mouth, disgusted by the taste.

When my eyes settled onto my father, I held a gasp, transformed and ran to his side. "DAD!"

My knees fell to the ground, scrapping against the grassy floor while I slid to his side and gently picked up his enormous Wolf head. He whimpered in pain and my hand shakily laid onto his flank, brown fur covered in blood. Cade arrived by the back door, but my eyes were glued onto my father's bloodied form.

I tried to fight the tears in my eyes, while a knot clogged my throat. "Find some clothes..." I winced while more blood gushed out of the wound. "NOOOW!!!" My voice broke with emotion, scrapping my throat with pain.

I couldn't stop shaking as my father's eyes blinked weakly, more blood gushing from his injury.

Fuck... no, no, no, please... Selene please... I know I said I felt it was my time to rule but please... please, no, not like this... please...

Cade arrived with a set of old clothes, and I ripped them from his hands then placed them onto the wound, applying pressure in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding. Tears streamed down my cheeks when his eyes met mine. "Come on Pa... you gotta shift... please..." when he didn't react, I desperately tried to order him to shift, screaming my lungs out... but to no result. My joints became white as I continued to grip and hold the clothes onto the wound, crimson leaking between my fingers.

"DAAAAD!!!!"
