Chapter 109 - Unexpected Visitor

The party continued on without interruption.

Everyone called out for cheers to congratulate the star of the party. The best wishes weren't only for Xue AI's birthday, but the hope that she may show some promise and talent in becoming a cultivator.

Most of the people of the city greatly respected Zhao Wei, and although having another cultivator come from his family might make his power over the city more firm than it already was, if it was under him they didn't think this was such a bad thing.

Charismatic, righteous, and powerful. Those were the words one would usually use to describe the ruler of their city. As such how could any of them feel any bad will toward him and his family.

Of course this wasn't the same for everyone, there were still some who felt dissatisfied…

As everyone gave their best wishes, the door near the back of the venue shot open as a gust of wind from the outside blew into the building.

Zhao Wei immediately became alert at the sounds and looked up to see who had arrived.

"Well this is an unexpected surprise."

"What is it Brother Zhao? Is this old man not even welcomed around the city anymore?" The guest who had seemingly arrived late was a frail looking old man who slowly limped his way into the eh building.

And although he addressed Zhao Wei so informally, no one would dare question it. After all, this woman was a well known one in their city.

"Wang Mu gives his congratulations to Brother Zhao's daughter's birthday." The old man clasped his hands together as he took a curt bow.

Before straightening his back again and looking at the rest of the guests silently watching him.

"What's wrong with everyone? This is a time for celebration! Hahaha!" Wang Mu busted out laughing as he briskly walked over and grabbed a cup of wine from one of the waiters and began to drink.

The guests slowly realized he wasn't here to cause trouble and began to immerse themselves back into talking with friends or making acquaintances.

Zhao Wei was surprised by Wang Mu's actions. He himself knew best how much the Wang Family disliked him and his Xue Family. After all, they basically ripped all form of power from his grasp.

Yet today he walked around the hall laughing and celebrating with everyone else, as if he didn't have a care in the world.

Tian Hai and Tian Kai witnessed this scene in bafflement. After all, they've only had bad experiences with the Wang Family before, so now seeing their head just be so casual brought quite a different impression.

Though they didn't let their guards down, after all they already formed a deep grudge against the Wang Family that wasn't so easily solved.

But as the day carried on and morning transitioned to evening, no big event occurred. It seemed that Wang Mu wasn't planning anything at all.

In a way this was even scarier than if he was.

He quickly became drunk and was laughing merrily with a bunch of other people without a care in the world.

Seemingly in an extremely good mood, yet what could put him in such a good mood?

Only he knew the answer to that.

Xue Chang was also curious but he didn't think about it too much. He had already made himself clear. If the Wang Family kept bothering him, he wouldn't be afraid to settle the score.

But right now was his sister's party, so he didn't want any trouble to come to it.

After several long hours of drinking, speeches, and entertainment; the party finally came to a close.

As the guests began to leave one by one, Zhao Wei approached Wang Mu with a smile on his face.

Although the two weren't on the best of terms, at the very least they held some decorum in public.

"I must say, I didn't expect even you to make a breakthrough in these past few years."

Zhao Wei immediately noticed the change in Wang Mu's aura and congratulated him.

But to his surprise, Wang Mu just humbly stated "It is nothing. My talent is still far off compared to yours."

"Don't be so humble, it is difficult for us to get to our current levels of power, hold more pride in yourself. Tell me though, what's the occasion that you would grace my family with your presence?"

Shrugging to himself, Wang Mu just held up a cup of alcohol and said, "There isn't much to it. It's just that my son has surprised me in recent years and I felt like celebrating. But why are you so curious? Afraid I might be planning something…?"

Although he didn't say it outright, it was obvious he didn't appreciate Zhao Wei's prying. But Xue Chang's father didn't give this any mind.

"You know as well as I do that it's been quiet for a while now. And although it seems like the trouble we were facing a while ago has subsided, I keep getting this strange feeling."

"Like some sort of intuition?" At first Wang Mu didn't listen to Zhao Wei's words, but now he was giving his full attention.

Although they weren't the most powerful people in the world, their senses were still several times more powerful than the average person. This included their sixth sense for danger.

While Wang Mu couldn't be sure about how accurate Zhao Wei's senses were, if such a powerful man stated that he felt something was off then Wang Mu wasn't one to just ignore it.

"Exactly like an intuition. I know I offended you with my prying but it is something I have to do. There is a storm brewing Wang Mu, and we need to work together to pass through it."

Zhao Wei spoke calmly without any hint of fear or worry. But the serious look in his eyes allowed Wang Mu to know that he wasn't just making this up.

Wang Mu would be lying if he said he didn't have his own plans in motion. And of course, one of those pieces he had at the ready was his son Wang Dong, who was still training in their holy lands.

Usually if someone is killed in the holy land, their corpse would be the thrown out of it.

Wang Mu had been sending a constant stream of servants to check it out, yet they've all reported to him that no body was discovered.

If Wang Dong was truly alive after spending all that time in the holy land, then Wang Mu could only imagine how powerful he had become.

As expected of his own blood!

He planned to use Wang Dong to pressure Zhao Wei out of his position of power, but if the threat Zhao Wei was sensing was truly that serious, then maybe it was better to put aside their differences for now and deal with it.

"What are you suggesting?"

"I'd like to hold a City Conference, with 'everyone' present" Zhao Wei insinuation on "everyone" made even Wang Mu's eyes open.

He couldn't help but ask carefully, "Is it really that serious?"

"I can only pray it is not."

Wang Mu nodded and agreed to spread the word. It seems that his plan to take back the city would have to be put on hold.

Wang Mu thanked Zhao Wei and his wife for their hospitality before leaving silently.

And although it seemed like everything had ended, within the city a small group of people were notified that a completely different event had commenced.
