Chapter 70 - Plotting

It didn't take long for an adventurer that the guild master sent out to return and confirm the news Xue Chang brought back.

"So how was it?"

Xue Chang looked at the guild master's solemn expression as he questioned softly.

"My adventurers have already confirmed the existence of the tomb in the city, but the tomb you told us about has been collapsed."

This piece of information shocked Xue Chang greatly, "You mean it's been caved in?"

The leader's nod shook Xue Chang a bit.

It had been less than an hour since he left the tomb. After all, he had immediately rushed to the guild in order to warn them of the danger.

Yet in that short amount of time they had already destroyed the tomb.

This could only mean two things. Either every tomb had been rigged to collapse immediately upon discovery, or that the enemy they faced held a backing that held enough power to cause such a thing to happen in an instant.

But even with the tomb collapsed, just its existence spelled disaster for their city.

"It seems that those villages aren't the only things being targeted by these invaders. They're plotting against us as well."

This much was obvious to all of them already, they just didn't expect for these unknown assailants to act so soon.

The guild master sighed in exhaustion. Things were getting out of control. Especially with the situation he was dealing with right now.

"Wang Fan, can't you see the problem we are faced with? This is no time for personal grudges, we need to all work together to get through this disaster."

"Listen here old man. I respect the guild and your position. After all, it is very difficult to get to where you are at. But my family is not one to be taken advantage of. If I don't receive a satisfactory response, then you can forget about my men coming to help you out!"

Wang Fan spoke his words full of arrogance and sustain for the guild master before storming off.

The sound of a door slamming could be heard as he finally left the room in a huff.

While Xue Chang chuckled at the display, the guild master couldn't help but shake his head in disappointment.

"Sorry you had to see that. Unfortunately that guy isn't an adventurer and isn't under my jurisdiction. Although that wouldn't be so much of a problem if he wasn't also a level 4 Qi refiner. That level of power makes him hard to deal with."

"It's alright guild master. Although I am curious, what were you two fighting about?"

Xue Chang didn't care too much about Wang Fan, but their conversation seemed a little strange. What had gotten the two of them so worked up?

"It's a good thing you asked Yong Heng, this actually concerns you a bit."

"Oh?"

"Remember those two adventurers you went on a quest with on your first outing? It seems that Wang Fan wants to take them into custody."

A strange glow appeared in Xue Chang's eyes for a second. Clearly he was talking about Tian Hai and Tian Kai.

This held more importance to him than the guild master knew.

"What did they do?"

The guild master shook his head, "Thats the thing, they did nothing wrong. You know about that fight the Wang Family's kid Wang Dong had a while back? Well he's claiming that Tian Hai and Tian Kai, along with their accomplice Lou Lan, held an illegal match without the consent of Wang Dong. Of course the public knows that this isn't the truth, but he's using that as reason for arrest."

It seemed that while Xue Chang was dealing with the tomb, Tian Hai and Tian Kai had been intercepted by some soldiers while returning back to the villa.

Wang Fan was undoubtedly a member of the Wang Family. Using his personal connections along with his incredible strength, he was able to get himself a very high position within the city's militia. He was the head of the city guards, second only to their military generals.

Because of his rank, he was able to get plenty of his friends high positions in the group as well. This made it so he basically had a miniature army at his disposal.

And if he wanted someone arrested, they'd be charged with or without a cause.

Luckily the strength of the guild, even just a small hall, was still enough to push back the city's militia a little.

When a commotion caused by Tian Kai and Tian Hai fighting the unjust arrest erupted, some high ranking members of the guild arrived at the scene to see what was happening.

It was thanks to that that his guards were able to get out of the situation without harm.

"How are they? The two adventurers? It couldn't have been a good thing if they were ambushed by the militia."

An awkward expression on the guild master's face when Xue Chang asked this.

"You're right, it wasn't a good thing. When we arrived at the scene, nearly twenty soldiers were beaten black and blue. Those two barely had any injuries on them and if the guild officials did not act in time then those people might've been crippled."

Xue Chang couldn't help but feel relieved upon hearing that his friends were okay. But he felt a little awkward at the mess they left behind, "They wouldn't be held accountable for the injuries would they?"

"No, it was the soldiers who attacked first. They have no right to blame them for any injuries sustained. Especially on a false charge. Wang Fan can act unruly, but he can't go too wild. After all, the daily activities of the military are reported to the Xue Family pretty often. They can get away with small offenses, but go too far and it'll attract the attention of Zhou Wei."

Hearing this Xue Chang stood up and thanked the guild master for listening to him. He was preparing to leave, since he needed to see if Tian Hai and Tian Kai were really alright.

But just before he could walk away, the guild master called for him, "Yong Heng, you shouldn't spread the news of what I told you today. Although I know you're strong, you aren't yet ready to face off against the Wang Family."

Xue Chang nodded in thanks. He was of course well aware of this.

His strength was at the fifth level of Qi refinement, yet the Wang Family head was at the seventh level.

He couldn't reveal himself just yet.

"It seems that trouble isn't just coming from those invaders, but from the citizens as well. Seems I'll have to be prepared for plots from the inside and out."

Although he whispered this to himself, a faint voice coming from inside of his head told him that things weren't as bad as they seemed.

Yong Heng had finally awakened after consuming the pseudo nascent soul.

And his first words immediately caught Xue Chang's attention, "Want to learn some spells?"
