Chereads / Ark's Revenant Chimera / Chapter 4 - Chapter Three

Chapter 4 - Chapter Three

Being given a spot in the clinic to do my objective as what I needed was placed around the area. My mind focused and the world seemed to crawl around me slower. Picking up some flame retardant materials and very resistant metals I grasped them tightly. My soul feeds into them causing a water rippling effect before my hands are enclosed together. Pushing the materials together, grasping the material in my hands I hold one end. Pulling with the other making a black and white flamethrower barrel with an orange tint.

Holding the other end I uncapped the other and pushed a claw into the unrefined barrel. Twisting my claw a surge of white soul fire cut through the barrel making a multilayered inside. Small runes lining the barrels inside. Pulling my claw free I set the metal rod which is about six feet long aside. Picking up a liquid and some more metal I repeated the process but formed two heat sink vent modules.

Standing nearby in the room as the strange ancient Chimera worked surprisingly quickly but methodically. I felt the heat surges of his strange power and felt something nag in the back of my mind. He and his two companions are quite old yet I know next to nothing about the man. Or I didn't until just now when my drone assistant gave a search report result.

'Blood God Mannæta? The wandering herald of destruction? This strange man and those two animals?'

Looking at the old Chimera's back my mind tries to put things together logically. But some things just don't click into place as I do not know enough to make the connection. I don't know when but he had completed his project as he now held a rather unique flamethrower. (Looks just like Ifrit's original one from the game.)

He walked past me and towards where Ifrit should still be at to recover as he carried the large weapon. Following him I watched the supposed herald of destruction give the weapon to Ifrit. A smile on his lips as he ruffled her hair with a chuckle that does remind me of a grandfather. His companions, who had been watching over Ifrit, hummed in amusement at her flailing. Some things don't make sense however he seems rather happy as he is. History is never so easy to understand.

Smiling softly I lift up my fleeing daughter and kiss her forehead. Ifrit's eyes are widening with a blush on her cheeks but she is happy. A cackle in the background lets me know mr. Cartson is also rather pleased. A remark making me smile wryly with a blush.

"Aye that's how ya be a good mother! Good job surprising her Silence."

"I'm still new to this… don't mock me…"

My protest was admittedly very weak as my blush grew from the amused cackling. Ifrit hugging my neck and whispering something that made my lips twitch into a rather loving smile.

"You don't need to be good… I love you mom."

"Lovely sight. Anyways it's time we took our leave you two. Stay frosty."

Like that the three left quietly but the way their tails moved made something in me flinch. I don't know why but the way they moved made me feel something confusing….

Since the old world me and Gaia have watched General Cartson through many excursions. He has always had the air of a dead man since we've known him. In this life with these new memories added on. It's only become worse. He's broken with PTSD still haunting his dreams of both lives now. The children seem to lighten the air but he rarely truly sleeps in this life. He's conditioned himself for five centuries to sleep so lightly even air stopping can awaken him. To avoid the slaughters he's taken place in while asleep he's done this to himself. It's saddening… My old handler Corporal Hendrick used to say he was a tough man, but he's pretty damaged.

During our first death he could've been saved, the military wouldn't let him just go. But he wanted to die, hidden as it was, he sought to die to escape. Then this life where he has had a choice, a soldier's code he still followed even if altered. No one forced his choices; he made tough ones that sealed countries to history. Following such a man from the Rhine Clinic back to Babel I spoke to my pack mate.

"Do you think he's ever going to sleep well?"

"No my dear Loki, he may never sleep. Sergeant Fuji used to say he's a man of difficulty, he wasn't wrong."

Gaia spoke softly with a tired voice as if awake for years straight.

"But could those children make it possible? He almost slept deeply willingly with them."

"A valid point dear, a valid point."

"So this Frost Nova kid, think the Patriot will be around her?"

"Yes most certainly, Wendigo's are protective of their charges to the death. Seeing another threaten to capture or kill her he may show his face and the mission will be forgotten."

".... Should we follow him that day?"

"Dear, have faith in him. He will survive. But not without losses I'm afraid as Wendigo magic could cause permanent damage."

We followed him into Babel where he grabbed a thrown Manticore. W walking from down a hallway smirking with a giggle. Manticore climbed along his arm and onto one of his shoulders, a small smile on her lips. The faint welcome back coming from her mouth earned the child a chuckle. The air around him brightened as he ruffled W's hair, getting the merc to flail but giggle loudly. The hurried steps of another followed by quick but calm steps echo out. An excited Chimera youngling flinging herself around his neck suddenly.

She spun a bit and landed on his free shoulder with a smirk. The leader of Babel chuckled wryly at the sight.

"Considering what you did to them I'm surprised they are so happy to see you. Mainly W as she likes to play it "cool" and say its just weird. Yet she's pretty happy with you for some reason, Grandfather."

"Boss, why?! Don't you dare mention anything else!"

"Tell me everything. Even her dirty sex fantasies so I can embarrass her."

"MOTHER FUCKERS STOP IT!"

"But I ain't fucked with no mother's, just you W."

"Get down here so I can wipe that smug look off your face!"

"Bet she'll kiss your cheek dad, she's not an honest type."

"No…"

"Why are you all ganging up on me suddenly?!"

"Because you're an amusing kid."

"It's refreshing to see you so lively."

"Traitors!"

She may seem angered but W is smirking and chuckling softly. The teenager Sarkaz having fun with the family she's been dragged into. Manticore was giggling softly, watching it all happily with her tail curling up. Amiya teasing the Sarkaz merc with a smile as she hides upon Dakota's shoulder. The young queen smiling brightly for once as she looked on and teased her guard.
